Even though he desperately didn’t want to face the past, even though he numbed himself countless tis inside to forget those cruel things, his crippled legs constantly reminded him that that period could never be erased from his life.
Sophie Smith opened her mouth, but couldn’t voice the question she wanted to ask.
She feared reigniting Oscar Land’s painful mories, and she was also afraid that Asher Land would really beco another Oscar because of her.
The price he would need to pay was simply too great.
...
Two hours later, Asher Land called.
"Where did you run off to?"
This was not Eastern City; he didn’t dare leave her alone outside for even a mont.
"I’m at..." Sophie Smith glanced around, not knowing exactly where she was, so she began describing her surroundings to him. She never hung up, and gradually, the sound of his voice got closer and closer. Sophie Smith turned around and saw him standing not far away, anxiously looking around.
"Asher Land." She called his na, though not loudly, but sohow, he seed to have a knack for sensing it, and instantly looked in her direction.
He strode over swiftly, and the tense expression on his face relaxed a bit.
"How long have you been out? The servants said that I had just left, and you followed right behind?"
"I wasn’t following you." She pouted, "I just wanted to take a walk."
"A walk? In the dark windy night, what kind of walk are you taking? What if you get bitten by bugs in the garden, or accidentally sprained your ankle?"
Precisely because the night was dark and windy, she dared to co out. If she wandered around during the day, the Land Family people would definitely catch her and trouble her.
Asher Land saw her silence and couldn’t bear to bla her further.
He picked her up horizontally and carried her back to the East Garden.
"Put down quickly. What if people see us?"
Sophie Smith struggled uneasily.
He had grown accustod to certain things.
Like carrying her, he felt it was natural, and if one day, she was too lazy to walk, then he would certainly beco her legs.
Irene Morton had been sitting in the living room waiting for Asher Land to return, but he ca back and didn’t see Sophie Smith. He didn’t even stop inside the house for three seconds before rushing out again.
Now, he’s back, but holding another woman in his arms.
"Brother Asher, the shower in my bathroom’s broken. I want to use yours to take a bath." Irene Morton approached them, a hint of an innocent smile on her lips.
"Go ahead."
He casually agreed with her. He was planning to go back to the master bedroom, but since Irene wanted to bathe, he sat with Sophie Smith on the spacious living room sofa.
Irene Morton felt ignored, as if she was transparent to him. He wouldn’t even notice her using his bathroom, and even if she stood naked in front of him, he wouldn’t react.
Back in Eastern City, she had tried it.
She thought getting into his bed would make him want her, but the result was he didn’t touch her even with a finger.
Frustrated, she walked upstairs, slamming the door loudly enough for them downstairs to notice.
"Asher Land..."
"Hmm?"
"Let’s be more discreet in front of Irene from now on."
