"I suppose it’s important." He placed the glass on the dining table and then spoke, "I wonder if Third Young Master Land’s engagent party tomorrow night counts as an important event?"
He asked in return.
The fork in her hand almost dropped to the floor. She didn’t look at him, but took only two or three seconds to process his words,
"If Mr. Davis considers it important, then it must be important." Her tone was nonchalant.
She didn’t understand what Nolan Davis ant. He clearly knew about her relationship with Asher Land, yet every ti, he deliberately, or perhaps unintentionally, rubbed salt into her wounds in front of her.
To this, she could only feign composure.
"Miss Morton has called several tis, saying that she and you used to be like sisters, and now that she is getting engaged, she wants to make sure to bring you along."
"Do you believe that?" She lifted the corner of her lips, "Mr. Davis, you should be smarter than I imagine."
He understood the sarcastic undertone in her words, but sohow, he really wanted to take her to that so-called engagent party, to let her see firsthand the man she loved getting engaged to another woman. Perhaps it was a bit cruel, but he just wanted to remind her that there’s no possibility between her and Asher Land, and the sooner she realizes this fact, the better their future interactions will be.
"Either way, you won’t make attend the party alone, will you? At least I should bring a female companion, right?"
"Mr. Davis, I believe plenty of won would flock to you, that’s nothing you should worry about."
"Those won don’t include you?"
"No, not included." She responded frankly.
A hint of self-mockery flashed in Nolan Davis’s eyes. Yes, many won flocked to him, but she was not one of them.
Sophie Smith continued to enjoy her al casually. She was determined not to attend Asher Land’s engagent party, and Nolan Davis said nothing more.
A dinner that was supposed to be romantic passed in silence between them.
...
Sophie miscalculated.
She thought that as long as she held firm and did not attend Asher Land and Irene Morton’s engagent party, Nolan Davis would do nothing excessive to her. But she overestimated Nolan Davis’s ’gentlemanly deanor.’
At 6 PM, Alexander was a bit sleepy. She gently lulled him to sleep and placed him on the bed. Just as she turned around, she bumped into Nolan Davis.
"Why are you still here at ho?"
Logically, shouldn’t he be attending Asher Land and Irene’s engagent party by now?
"I’ve made up my mind—it’s you who should accompany ."
"But I’ve already made it very clear to you; I won’t go." Sophie, worried about disturbing Alexander’s rest, pushed him out with so guilt.
Nolan Davis bent down, scooped her up in his arms, and turned to head downstairs.
"Mr. Davis, what exactly are you doing, put down."
"I’ve pretended to be a gentleman for too long in front of you, and I want to act shalessly for once." The corners of his mouth lifted in a natural smile, as if he didn’t find any fault in being unscrupulous with her.
Unable to resist Nolan Davis, she was forcibly carried into the car.
"Why are all you n like this?" She was genuinely annoyed, her tone turning unpleasant. She thought she only had a temper with Asher Land, but unexpectedly, she found herself shouting at Nolan Davis too.
"All?" He held a trace of amusent in his eyes. "You’re talking about Third Young Master Land, aren’t you? He used to be quite unscrupulous with you too?"
