In the eting room, there was a mont of awkwardness due to Enzo Land’s sudden departure.
"Let’s adjourn the eting for now," Oscar Land took charge of the situation.
The people in the eting room left one after another, leaving only the three Land brothers.
"Go notify the finance departnt that every fund application by Enzo Land must be thoroughly investigated and reported to ," Asher Land thought for a mont and said.
Luke Land understood the reasoning behind this, "Alright, I get it."
"Once Enzo Land’s matters are settled, I’ll take Sophie Smith back to Eastern City. The matters at headquarters..." Asher Land paused, "I’ll have to trouble you, eldest brother."
"Do you really have to go back?" Luke Land suddenly spoke, his tone a bit bitter, "The old man is dead; no one can do anything to you, Sophie, or your son anymore. Why not stay here?"
"Sophie isn’t used to it here."
Because she wasn’t used to it and didn’t like it, he couldn’t stay here.
Luke Land fell silent, knowing he couldn’t influence his decision.
When Asher Land left headquarters, it was already past five in the evening, the sky was overcast, and it looked like it might rain heavily at any mont.
Robert Williams opened the car door, and Asher Land got in.
"Let’s go to the hospital."
"What?" Robert Williams didn’t imdiately respond. So late, and still go to the hospital? Besides, wasn’t there a private doctor at the house?
"To the hospital," Asher Land tersely said, not wanting to repeat unnecessary words.
Robert Williams dared not ask further, and drove the car towards the hospital.
On rainy days, he always felt uncomfortable, especially his left hand, which hurt terribly, and his shoulder, where Christopher Smith once stabbed him, would sotis flare up.
If he went back to the Land Family now, letting the doctor check him out, she would certainly worry, which was not sothing he wanted to see.
At the hospital, the doctor gave him a thorough examination and prescribed so dication.
However, these didn’t help much.
He endured the pain and got back into the car. Robert Williams drove the car back to the old Land Family house, and Asher Land sat inside for a long ti without getting out.
Robert Williams glanced back and saw that Asher Land’s face was sowhat pale, and his forehead was beaded with cold sweat.
"President Land..." Robert Williams felt uneasy.
"I’m fine," he said stoically.
Even with today’s advanced dical technology, there was no way to perform miracles; it’s impossible to just switch his arm with another, right?
"President Land, it seems like Miss Smith is coming over," Robert Williams noticed a petite figure walking toward the car, silhouetted against the headlights.
Asher Land steadied himself, pulled a handkerchief from his suit pocket, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and took a long breath, trying to calm his breathing.
Sophie Smith was a bit perplexed; she clearly saw Asher Land’s car parked here for about twenty minutes but didn’t see him get out. Curious, she walked over to take a look.
Before she reached the car door, Asher Land stepped out first.
Sophie vaguely felt that sothing was off about his expression, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
"You’re back..."
She spoke cautiously.
It had been a long ti since she felt this way. Back in Eastern City, she often sat in the living room, waiting for him to co ho from work. Though ordinary, it felt cozy to her.
Just like now, standing in front of her, a sense of warmth inexplicably filled her heart.
