She stared at him in disbelief, unable to snap out of it for a while.
"Did you hear ? I’m telling you to leave here right now." He impatiently reiterated.
"Asher Land, what’s wrong? Are you feeling insecure? Are you scared?" Sophie Smith’s lips curled into a mocking smile, "Do you think if I leave, I won’t know what you’re really like now?"
"Even if you are disabled, so what? In my eyes, you’re still the perfect Asher Land, still the sa!" Her emotions were sowhat agitated.
The desolation in Asher Land’s eyes deepened; how could he possibly still be that perfect Asher Land?
"Sophie, just leave. I really just want so peace and quiet." His tone was sowhat weak at this mont. Seeing him like that, Sophie naturally felt uncomfortable, maybe he indeed needed so calm now.
"Alright, I’ll go." Sophie lowered her eyes, forcing her tone to remain calm, "But Asher, although I’m agreeing to leave this ti, next ti I won’t."
She was truly afraid he would push her away.
"Asher, I don’t want you to be a coward. Why can’t we face whatever cos our way together? I hope that we can share joy and hardship, and be there for each other in our darkest, most painful tis."
Share joy and hardship, be there for each other.
It indeed sounds like a beautiful thing, but when true hardship cos, wouldn’t watching another person suffer beco an even greater tornt?
When Sophie walked out of the ward, she found Irene Morton standing by the door all along, so she must have overheard the conversation between her and Asher.
"I didn’t expect Brother Asher to treat you with the sa indifference as . Suddenly, I feel much more at ease." Irene remarked with a hint of schadenfreude.
Sophie didn’t want to pay her any attention and continued walking forward.
"Sister Sophie." Irene caught up in a few steps and blocked her path, "Face the facts, will you?"
"What?" Sophie didn’t even bother to raise her head, responding absentmindedly.
"Brother Asher asked you to leave because he doesn’t want to see you. So, please, stop showing up in front of him, okay?" Rarely, Irene spoke in an almost negotiating tone, but unfortunately, this ti, Sophie didn’t comply.
"Irene, I thought you were smart." Sophie chuckled softly, her eyes brimming with confidence, "Asher doesn’t want to see right now because he loves . He doesn’t want to see him defeated, but as long as I don’t mind, we can start over. Do you understand?"
"Irene, the bond between us is not as frail as you think. Asher won’t easily give up on , and neither will I."
Sophie’s words were firm and determined, catching Irene off guard with her strong declaration.
"So, Irene, stop thinking about coming between us." Sophie’s lips curled into a faint smile, her gaze steadfast, revealing a determination that caught Irene off guard for a mont.
However, once she gathered herself, she certainly wouldn’t give up.
"Sister Sophie, I think you are overly confident." Irene slightly raised her chin, her expression proud, "These four years, Brother Asher and I have been through so much together; he would never abandon ."
