Seeing Asher Land enter the kitchen, the maid quickly followed.
"Mr. Land, is there anything you’d like to eat? The chef has already left for the day, but if you let know, I can prepare sothing for you right away."
"No need," Asher Land searched around the kitchen, "Do we have milk at ho? The kind kids drink?"
There are no kids at ho, so where would we get milk for kids?
The maid shook her head, troubled.
Asher Land glanced at his wristwatch; it seed there was still ti. If he drove to the city now, perhaps he could buy the milk and bring it back for Alexander to drink before he went to sleep.
He didn’t hesitate and strode out.
"Mr. Land, where are you going at this hour?"
The maid’s shout alerted Irene Morton and Luke Land; they hurried downstairs, noticing Asher picking up the car keys from the coffee table.
"Brother Asher, where are you heading?" Irene blocked his way, looking up at him.
"To buy milk."
"Hmm?" Irene was puzzled, "Who’s going to drink it?"
After asking, a self-mocking smile played on Irene’s lips. Who else would warrant his concern besides his woman and son?
Wasn’t she just speaking without thinking?
She sensibly stepped aside to give him a clear path.
He strode out, followed by the sound of the car’s ignition. In a matter of seconds, the car disappeared from her sight.
"I wonder, where’s he going this late?" Luke Land was equally perplexed, drying his hair as he descended the stairs.
"To buy milk for the kid upstairs," Irene’s words were filled with bitterness, "If I said I’d like to eat Italian tonight, would he go to the city to bring it back for ?"
Irene focused her gaze on Luke Land; her eyes were sowhat repressed and looked pitifully wronged.
"Well,..." Luke Land chuckled awkwardly, "If you want to eat it, he should buy it. Even if he won’t, I can get it for you, can’t I?"
"You know that’s not the answer I want to hear," Irene’s lips curled into an ironic smile, her eyes downcast in disappointnt.
"Listen, Irene, there’s no need to hang on one tree," Luke Land couldn’t bear it, "I admit, you’re really good to the third brother, but if he doesn’t appreciate it, just let it go. The world is so big, can’t you find soone better looking or richer than him?"
After saying, Luke Land thought carefully; well, it might be quite challenging.
Irene continued in silence; she was indeed a woman too. No matter how much she tried to allure or enchant him, he showed not a trace of interest...
Was she really that much of a failure?
"Luke Land, would you like to do an experint with ?"
"What?" Luke Land didn’t quite understand.
"Let’s go to my room."
Luke Land had a mont of discomfort on his face, "What are we going to do in the room? Can’t we talk here?"
"Will you go or not?" Tears swirled in Irene’s eyes, seemingly about to spill over.
Luke Land found won incredibly helpless and followed Irene back to her room.
As soon as they entered, she turned and locked the door.
Her eyes were red, lips tightly bitten, with an expression that seed she wanted to swallow life whole.
"What—what’s bothering you?"
"I want to test whether it’s my allure toward Brother Asher that’s not strong enough or if Brother Asher himself is lacking." Irene spoke seriously.
