"Wha-what do you an?" Sophie’s tone was gentle yet firm, and Irene even saw a trace of mocking smile at the corner of her mouth. Was she mocking her?
"What I an, don’t you know?" Actually, Sophie didn’t want to speak to Irene in such a harsh tone, but given the circumstances, she hoped Irene would see things clearly, "I love Asher Land, and Asher loves too. Your involvent, I think, is quite presumptuous because between us, there was never any sharing of a man, as that man has never belonged to you from the start."
Asher looked at Sophie in disbelief. Was this her way of declaring her sovereignty?
Hmm, it seed he liked hearing her say that.
All along, he had a strong possessiveness towards her, yet she always pretended to not care, even when he flirted with other won, she acted as if she didn’t see. But now, ...
"Brother Asher, ..." Irene’s eyes pleaded as they turned to Asher. It was as if Sophie’s words left her defenseless, and the only place to seek help was with Asher. But now that he was with Sophie, how could he possibly help her?
As expected, Asher’s tone was light and dismissive.
"Irene."
It was rare for her to hear him address her like this.
"What Sophie said is exactly what I wanted to say, I hope you can understand."
Asher seed to want to persuade her to let go in a calm and peaceful manner.
"Brother Asher, I will make you regret this." An alarming look flashed through Irene’s eyes. She clenched her fist, pronouncing each word clearly.
Asher couldn’t help but furrow his brows.
"What do you intend to do?" Vaguely, he felt a sense of foreboding.
"What I intend to do is none of your concern!" Irene shook her hand, then stord out of the hall without looking back.
"Miss Irene!" Nanny Garcia just wanted to chase after her but was stopped by Asher.
"Let her go."
Asher sat back at the dining table, feeling extrely vexed. Regarding Irene’s willfulness, he truly felt powerless. Before, he treated her as a sister, now he sees her as a benefactor. No matter what, he couldn’t treat her the way he usually handles matters. Maybe his heart softened, and he couldn’t bring himself to do the most ruthless thing...
"You didn’t eat a single bite just now, would you like so more?" Sophie asked, looking up from across him.
"No, thanks."
He had already lost his appetite.
"I’m sorry, if my words weren’t so blunt just now, maybe Irene wouldn’t have been so angry..."
"It’s not your fault, she’s used to being willful." When Asher said this, it carried the tone of an elder’s admonition. Sophie knew that in Asher’s heart, he regarded Irene as a sister, and he was indeed a bit helpless with her.
The atmosphere at the dining table beca sowhat awkward due to Irene’s disruption. Sophie lowered her head, silently eating the rice in her bowl.
"What you said earlier, was it the truth from your heart?"
The deep, steady voice made Sophie’s fingers freeze. She neither looked up nor answered him.
Was it the truth?
Of course it was, she just didn’t know if it was the right decision to say those things.
Seeing her silence, Asher didn’t press further.
