His hands trembled as he dialed Robert Williams’ number.
"Get as many people as you can to Quad Goose Mountain Road! Now!" he roared. Robert sensed that Asher Land was losing control, understanding it must be an urgent matter, dared not to ask any questions, and hung up to gather manpower imdiately.
He restarted the car several tis, finally managing to drive out of the mud pit at a low speed,
The torrential rain pounded against the car windows, the mountain roads were perilous and steep, his breathing was unsteady, his fingertips digging into the steering wheel.
"Sophie,..."
Aside from softly calling her na, he lacked the ability to think of anything else.
He reached the location described by Enzo Land as quickly as possible, stopped the car, and found the surroundings deserted.
The rain gradually ceased, leaving the area in total darkness.
"Sophie!" he shouted her na loudly, his voice echoing in the silent and empty valley.
The only response was his own echo.
His foot seed to step on sothing, he took out his phone, turned on the flashlight, and focused intently, discovering it was a shattered phone.
He seed to have suspected sothing, using the light from his phone, he bent over to closely examine the ground...
There were footprints.
The muddy and bumpy mountain path made the footprints especially noticeable.
He followed the footprints step by step until they disappeared.
He looked up, and before him lay a bottomless valley.
"No, it can’t be..."
He seed to have gone mad, recklessly climbing down the steep cliff.
Sharp stones slightly cut into his hands, blood flowed freely.
He had just one thought, he must find her.
The cliff was steep and narrow, and he lost his footing, sliding down, but fortunately grabbed onto a tree branch, barely steadying himself.
He couldn’t imagine what she would look like tumbling down the mountain.
It seed that closing his eyes would bring forth a horrifying scene.
Tears welled up in his eyes, his entire body uncontrollably trembling.
About three hours later, he descended to the foot of the mountain, the sky already showing signs of dawn, and his vision gradually cleared.
The skin on his hands was completely marred, cut and scratched by stones or branches, his once shiny shoes and clean shirt now covered in filthy mud.
He pushed through layers of underbrush while loudly calling her na.
After a long, fruitless search, he felt a mont of despair.
The manpower Robert mobilized had also followed Asher Land’s footsteps to the mountain base, with rescue teams searching everywhere. Police cars and ambulances lined the mountain road, and a helicopter hovered overhead in the search...
But damn it, they still couldn’t find a trace of her.
"President Land, could Miss Smith have been taken away by Enzo Land?" Robert stood beside Asher Land, suggesting timidly, "Perhaps we could send people to pursue Enzo Land..."
"No, I’m certain, she’s at the mountain base, and even if I have to turn this place upside down, I’ll find her." Asher Land’s tone was determined.
Perhaps, there really is such a thing as a telepathic connection in this world.
...
"President Land, we’ve found her!" Not far away, rescuers seed to have discovered sothing and were striding forward.
Asher Land pushed Robert aside and staggered forward.
"President Land, please, please step aside for a mont." A police officer in uniform stepped forward, blocking Asher Land.
