It was not a hard smack. With her tiny strength, it was less of an attack and more of an offended pat.
Still, the cave beca silent. Hu Baiyu who had been watching could not help but stifle a laugh.
The white mute Lion had thought he was going crazy when he had seen his little female as cute instead of vicious earlier and now he could only confirm it.
He even silently wondered, if she had always been this cute or if he was just noticing it now.
Feng Yiren froze too. His hand stopped in the water. His expression changed ever so slightly, because in the past, when Lin Huahua touched them, it was never like this.
In the past, her anger ca with disgust, commands, punishnts, cold eyes, and guards waiting in the background. In the past, any contact from her felt like danger.
But this ti, she had only smacked his arm because she was annoyed. To Feng Yiren it was light. Soft. Almost childish. Like she had forgotten to be cruel.
He did not even flinch once for so reason, it was like his fox instinct could tell she was no longer a threat.
Lin Huahua herself did not even realize what this looked like. She only glared at him and said, "Stop playing around. Wash them properly. If dinner tastes bad because of you, I will bla you for the rest of your life."
Feng Yiren lowered his eyes to the fair little hand that had touched him. Then he slowly looked back up.
For once, the teasing in his face paused. The fox’s heart gave a strange little pull.
Because this was new.
He should have been suspicious. He had every reason to be suspicious. This princess had made their lives miserable for too long. A person like that did not change in one day.
And yet.
And yet this little white mouse was standing in front of him with puffed cheeks, bright eyes, and an angry tail, threatening to bla him forever over a handful of leaves.
It was ridiculous. It was childish. It was also so strangely cute that Feng Yiren had to press his tongue to the inside of his cheek to stop himself from smiling too much.
"What?" Lin Huahua asked with confusion when she noticed Feng Yiren staring at her strangely.
Feng Yiren realizing he had been caught imdiately looked away first and dipped the leaves back into the water.
This ti, his movents really did beco gentler. In his heart even though he would never accept it. He was trying to please Lin Huahua so that she would see her could also listen and he could also be helpful.
Lin Huahua imdiately noticed the way he beca gentle and squinted at him. "See? You could do it properly."
Feng Yiren let out a quiet hum. "Mm."
Lin Huahua: "..."
Lin Huahua blinked. That was it? No shaless reply? No annoying joke?
Was this beast crazy or what? Her suspicion instantly rose.
She narrowed her eyes even harder and stepped closer. "Why are you suddenly listening so well?"
Feng Yiren washed the leaves without lifting his head. "Because if dinner tastes bad, a certain little white rat will bla for the rest of my life. That sounds troubleso."
Lin Huahua’s face heated up at once.
Little white rat?
Little white rat?!
Why was he the only one who kept calling her a rat all the ti. Was he looking down on her because she was of weaker species?
She opened her mouth, ready to scold him again, but Feng Yiren finally glanced at her from the side, and the smile in his eyes was lazy, sly, and sohow softer than before.
Lin Huahua’s heart paused. Just for a second. Then she imdiately turned away in embarrassnt and huffed like she had won the argunt.
Humph. Fine. At least this stupid fox is washing the leaves correctly now.
That counted as victory. A very small victory.
But victory was victory.
Then her eyes sild over to him again and she realized he was still here. "Do you plan on washing and draining them in here?"
Feng Yiren looked at her with an annoyed expression "Don’t tell what to do"
When he said that Lin Huahua had expected him to continue staying there but to her surprise, he got up and walk towards the exit.
Lin Huahua blinked at his figure confused, was this beast crazy or what?
Lin Huahua huffed, put both hands on her hips, and glared at him. "Just wash them properly."
Feng Yiren clicked his tongue softly, but he still took the leaves and went outside to wash them.
Of course, even while obeying, he still wore that proud lazy face, as though this task was beneath him and yet he was generously doing it anyway because the heavens had decided to bless Lin Huahua with his existence.
Lin Huahua watched him for a second and muttered inside her heart that foxes were indeed born to be annoying.
Then she turned and realized she was now left alone with Hu Baiyu. The cave suddenly felt quieter.
Hu Baiyu was still sitting near the wall, his
broad shoulders looking even broader in the dim cave light.
His white lion ears were visible now, the soft fur catching the warm flicker of the fire, and his long lion tail rested near his side, moving only a little now and then. Even injured, he still looked huge. Huge and strong and silent.
Lin Huahua looked at him. Hu Baiyu looked back at her. Then she rembered his injuries and imdiately frowned.
"You should go to the room and sleep," Lin Huahua said, trying to sound practical. "When the food is ready, I will call you to eat."
Hu Baiyu did not move. He only looked at her.
Lin Huahua waited. Hu Baiyu still looked at her.
For a mont, the two of them simply stared at each other, and the atmosphere beca strangely awkward.
Lin Huahua did not know what he was thinking, but Hu Baiyu’s thoughts at that mont were anything but simple.
He wanted to refuse.
