[Pantheon: 1 New ssage]

King paused for a minute, then opened it.

____________________________

[Pantheon: King. Good to see you made it through the First Woe. I was worried for a mont there when you hadn’t replied, then the rankings updated. Glad you’re still at the top where you belong.]

[Pantheon: I hope that you see reason in my suggestion.]

__________________________________________________________________________________________

King stared at Pantheon’s ssage, rereading the final line one more ti before closing the interface.

He wasn’t buying the act.

Pantheon’s tone was too polished, for soone he didn’t actually know. The concern felt manufactured, and the repeated ntion of "my suggestion" carried an edge that made King wary.

But the suggestion itself was still logical.

Selecting the Null Alignnt when the event ca would give them freedom. Exclude them from forced alliances, obligations, and no targets painted on their backs by rival factions. But it was a double edged sword. At the sa ti, they had no help, alliances had their pros and cons, and they could be tagged by any faction with no other having their backs.

Playing with the Null Alignnt was like playing in manual setting.

King however, wasn’t an amateur. He still preferred the freedom to forge his own bonds.

Without completely answering the question he simply replied. "I HEAR YOU". Then he dismissed the interface and turned toward the bunker entrance.

"Vi," he called. "Co outside for a minute."

Vi erged from one of the rooms, stretching as she stepped into the common area. She’d taken of her light armour, and her short cloak. She was just dressed in the fitted white sleeveless corset that held her breasts firmly. Her white mini-skirt, and the leggings she wore placed her slender athletic legs on full display.

And for the first ti, King really saw her beauty in 4k.

Her amber-gold eyes stared lazily as she approached him. she looked exhausted, but the panic from earlier had faded, replaced by a quiet resolve.

"What’s up?" she asked.

"Just need so air," King said. "Co with .?"

"Sure" she replied.

They stepped outside together.

The evening air was cool, carrying a fresh scent of a new world. The stars overhead were clearer than they’d ever been before the ga overlay, the light pollution from cities erased by the topography shift.

King walked a few paces away from the bunker and stopped, leaning against a construct wall he’d reinforced earlier.

Vi followed, standing beside him.

For a mont, neither of them spoke. They just stood there, staring at the reshaped horizon.

King broke the silence first.

"I’m glad you’re still alive," he said quietly. "When I saw those ssages... I thought I might be too late."

Vi looked at him, her expression softening.

"You weren’t," she said. "You ca. That’s what matters."

King turned to face her fully, studying her features in detail, He could truly appreciate the beauty of her eyes, her brows, and the red of her cheeks.

"You know," King said, a faint smile tugging at his lips, "you look even more attractive in person."

Vi blinked, then laughed genuinely, a tone that hinted she was letting her guard down.

"mmmmm, smooth," she said, shaking her head. "Real smooth, superman."

"I’m serious," King insisted.

"I know you are, thank you," Vi replied, her smile widening. She leaned in, closing the space between them. "And for what it’s worth... you’re pretty handso yourself. And I’m really glad eting my first crush didn’t end in a disaster."

King raised an eyebrow, his smile growing.

"welllll, that was pretty close, wasn’t it?"

Vi laughed again, louder this ti, and leaned fully into him. King wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her to his chest.

"So," King said after a mont, "what about that surprise you ntioned? The one you were teasing about?"

Vi pulled back slightly, her expression shifting to sothing more playful.

"Oh, that," she said, chuckling.

"Don’t tell you were ssing with ?" King raised an eyebrow, squinting his eyes.

"hahaha" she laughed a bit louder.

"Oh damn, I got played." King leaned back on the armrest with a brightened surprise.

"No No" Vi replied between laughters.

"Hmmmm" she heaved a breath, trying to get serious, but the smile didn’t leave her face.

"Okay..."

"close your eyes."

King hesitated, "Why?"

"Just do ittt" she insisted.

"Okay" He sat up straight, then complied, letting his eyelids drop.

He felt Vi shift, then heard her catch her breath before she leaned in,

... and kissed him.

King’s eyes snapped open to find Vi already staring back. Her cheeks were flushed a deep crimson, and while she looked totally embarrassed, she was sticking to her guns, refusing to be the first to look away.

King couldn’t help but smile.

He cupped her cheek, his palm warm and steady against her skin, and pulled her back in for a second kiss.

This ti, the hesitation was gone. It was slow and intentional, a soft press of lips that deepened as the world around them seed to quiet. He could feel the flutter of her pulse against his fingertips and the heat radiating between them, turning a simple mont into sothing that lingered far longer than the first.

And as they drowned in the mont...

DING!

[GLOBAL ANNOUNCENT: THE ALIGNNT SELECTION WILL BEGIN SHORTLY]

...They both jolted, breaking apart and dissolving into embarrassed laughter.

"Seriously?" Vi said, shaking her head. "Right now?"

King grinned, still holding her.

"feels like the system’s watching us."

Vi laughed again, then dressed back, composing herself.

"We should probably go inside," King said.

"Yeah," Vi agreed.

They returned to the bunker together.

Inside, Eli was already awake, sitting in the common area with his rifle resting across his lap. He looked up as they entered, nodding once.

"Master King," Eli said. "The announcent?"

"Yeah," King replied. "The Alignnt Selection is coming. We need to talk about it."

Eli set the rifle aside and leaned forward, giving King his full attention.

"I’ve been thinking about this since the rankings updated," King said. "There are going to be multiple alignnt options. Factions tied to specific NPCs or ideologies. Most of them will co with benefits, alliances, resources."

He paused.

"But they’ll also co with obligations. Enemies. Politics. If we align with one faction, we make enemies of another. And I don’t want that."

Eli nodded slowly.

"So you’re suggesting we avoid alignnt entirely?"

"Not avoid, you can’t really do that" King clarified. "The substitute though, is the Null option. It lets us operate independently, without fixed alliances or obligations. We can transact with any faction without ties, unless we create them canonically."

"And the downside?" Eli asked.

"No guaranteed support from NPCs," King said. "Everyone else is a potential enemy until proven otherwise. Basically, we’re on our own."

Eli considered this for a mont, then nodded.

"I trust your judgnt, Master King."

Vi, who had been listening quietly, spoke up.

"I’m in." she said.

King turned toward the room where the child was resting.

The door had creaked open, and the child’s bulging eyes peered through the doorway.

"Co on," King gestured to her to co closer with a smile on his face.

The girl erged, rubbing her eyes. She looked at King, and then walked closer to him.

"Can you write?" King asked, gesturing as well.

Maya nodded.

"Great."

King raised his hand, summoning a small construct. Blue energy spiraled around his fingers, forming a pen and a flat sheet of translucent paper that solidified in his palm.

He handed both to her.

"What’s your na?" he asked gently.

She took the pen and paper and wrote carefully.

MAYA

King smiled.

"Maya," he repeated. "That’s a good na."

He knelt down to her eye level, his expression softening.

"Listen, Maya. You’re safe now. We’re going to take good care of you. You can think of Vi and as your big brother and sister. And Mr. Eli here, he’s your uncle. Okay?"

Maya nodded, a small innocent smile forming on her face.

King felt sothing shift in his chest, an unfamiliar warmth that caught him off guard. He reached out and patted her head gently.

"You don’t need to be scared of what happens next," King said. "I’m going to guide you through everything on your screen. Just follow my instructions, and you’ll be fine."

Maya nodded again, her smile widening.

King stood and glanced at Eli and Vi, who were both watching the exchange with quiet expressions.

He was unsure if she totally understood him, but the child was bringing out a side of King he didn’t even know existed.

DING!

[PLAYER ALIGNNT SELECTION BEGINS]

The interface blood in front of all four of them simultaneously.

A list appeared, glowing softly against the interior of the bunker.

___________________________________________________________________________

Thirteen fixed alignnts and the Null option.

King scanned the list, noting the familiar nas. Each alignnt had its own ideology, its own goals, its own network of NPCs. So alignnts shared similar objectives and could cooperate. Others were sworn enemies, locked in eternal conflict.

And with whichever you chose, you had to play the part. Betray your alignnt, and the system branded you a traitor. NPCs would hunt you. Players could even turn on you.

The Null alignnt avoided all of that. It allowed players to transact between factions with no ties, but it also left them without any fixed alliance or guaranteed support.

King selected Null.

Eli and Vi did the sa without hesitation.

King turned to Maya, whose interface had blood in front of her small fra.

"Okay, Maya," King said gently. "Look at the list. See the one at the bottom? The one that says Null? Tap that."

Maya studied the interface, her expression focused. King started to explain further, breaking it down into simpler terms.

But Maya tapped the Null option before he could finish.

Nani?

King blinked.

Eli shook his head, smiling.

"Guess we have ourselves a wonderkid," Eli said.

King laughed softly, genuinely impressed by the child’s intelligence.

All four of them confird their selections.
