"Eh, have we already arrived?"
Imrsed in her studies, Dorothy beca aware of the movent beneath her—the Great Dragon. She quickly set aside her book and lifted her head to look towards the church outside.
This Sub-Dragon, of a reasonably pure lineage, should be Father Adam's familiar. It's heading must certainly be the safe haven that Adam had arranged beforehand, but with Adam currently unconscious, she wasn't entirely sure whether this so-called safe place was truly safe.
"Reverend Father, you're awake."
Fortunately, just as Dorothy was beginning to worry, the cheerful voice of Denisha by her side filled the air. The hobody witch turned her head and saw Father Adam struggling to sit up from the bed.
"It seems I've woken up at just the right ti."
Adam also noticed the familiar descending; a weak smile squeezed onto his pale face.
"Father, what place is this?"
Dorothy stepped forward, and together with Denisha, they supported Father Adam. The three of them left the church and found themselves on the broad back of the dragon. They could vaguely make out the outline of a grandiose, imnse city not far away.
However, this city didn't look like a place of virtue. The entire city was built in a dark Gothic style, with spires punctuating the skyline and an overall sinister design, looking much like a City of Darkness—solemn and oppressive.
"This is the City of Sin, one of the few places in this world where the Church's influence has yet to reach. Having offended the Church, we can only temporarily take refuge here."
Adam looked towards the City of Darkness before him, a flicker of reminiscence in his eyes, and then he began explaining to the two young girls beside him.
"But as you can deduce from the na, this place is far from peaceful. The rulers here are Demon Followers who worship evil and chaos. Most of those who co seeking asylum are either criminals or others like us who have no choice but to flee here after offending powerful figures."
"Dorothy, Denisha, you two must take good care of yourselves from now on. It's best not to trust a single word from the people in this city; there are hardly any good people around."
Father wasn't entirely at ease as he gave instructions to the two.
He knew that such a sinister place was not suitable for children, especially beautiful young girls like Dorothy and Denisha. With their looks, they would be easily targeted in this dangerous and chaotic city. Unfortunately, there was no other option at the mont; only the City of Sin could provide them with sanctuary from the Church's pursuit.
However, after speaking, Adam was sowhat concerned that his words had frightened the two girls who were venturing out of their village for the first ti. He quickly sought to reassure them.
"But don't worry, I still have so acquaintances in the city. With their protection, as long as you two stay vigilant, there shouldn't be any problems."
Upon hearing this, the true country girl, Denisha, indeed breathed a sigh of relief and beca less anxious, while Dorothy glanced up at this father-figure of a priest, thinking that he surely had a story of his own.
You, once a Cardinal of the Church and father to a witch daughter, now even have acquaintances in a city of Demon Followers? Sothing's not right with you. Are you truly a proper cleric?
The Great Dragon descended swiftly, but instead of heading directly into the City of Sin, it landed on the outskirts. The massive creature then sank into the ground, leaving only the church on its back visible.
This made Dorothy frown.
The dragon's lineage appeared to be not low, and its stature and Dragon's Might were quite pure, a High Rank Subdragon, which could fight a True Dragon for a few rounds with so effort. Such strength equaled a Calamity for mortals. But why did she always feel that this dragon was a bit lazy and sowhat cowardly?
"Emora has always been a bit shy and doesn't like eting strangers or fighting. He prefers sleeping and eating soil, so don't bother thinking about him," said Adam, understanding Dorothy's gaze as she looked at his familiar. He felt compelled to explain.
Dorothy: "....."
Well done, a soil-eating dragon. You have less ambition than a herbivore dragon, a real waste of your lineage and strength.
Then, the hobody witch looked up disapprovingly at the fatherly priest again.
Look at what you're saying. How could you think so poorly of your own daughter? I certainly didn't sche to lure this Great Dragon to serve as my bouncer and bodyguard after you were stripped of your title, Father. Absolutely not.
However, before Dorothy could express her discontent, she frowned and turned her attention to a spot not far away. Adam also noticed his daughter's reaction and looked in the sa direction.
"Dorothy, relax. It's just my old friend coming," he said, surprised by his daughter's vigilant appearance, given her mild strength, yet keen awareness.
After calming her down and positioning her behind him, Adam spoke towards that direction.
"Co out, Satan. After all these years, you still love to skulk around."
"Heh heh, Adam, unlike you, devils aren't exactly creatures who can stand the light," replied a voice filled with slyness and wickedness nearby, and a pitch-black serpent slithered forward. Rising up, the snake opened its mouth wide, and a middle-aged man crawled out from its gullet.
