The man, already at the door, paused. He glanced back at her, his eyes dark and inscrutable. Then, he reached up, tugged at his collar, undoing a button, and walked back.
Chloe Reed sensed danger. ’I should have kept my mouth shut.’ She scrambled to her feet. "Don’t you dare try anything! I have to go to work!"
Seeing the panic on her face, a flicker of sothing unreadable crossed Walker Grant’s eyes.
"Don’t say things like that ever again,"
he said calmly, "Otherwise, I don’t mind taking that role to the extre."
’No need for dicine, after all.’
Chloe Reed gritted her teeth, suppressing her emotions as she watched him leave.
She sat back down on the edge of the bed, her long lashes lowered, veiled in loneliness and sorrow.
She still didn’t believe anything he had told her last night, even with the proof he had provided.
And now, because of it, he had her trapped, unable to get the divorce she wanted.
Chloe Reed felt utterly drained.
Just then, her phone rang. She pulled it out and saw it was a call from Charles Reed.
"Hello,"
she answered, her tone icy.
Charles Reed said, "Co to the hospital."
"What for? What do you want from ?" Chloe’s tone grew even colder.
"Chloe Reed, I’m your father! Is that any attitude to take with ?! Can’t I call you unless sothing is wrong? Your mother is still in the hospital, haven’t you even thought about coming to see her?" Charles Reed’s composure didn’t last three seconds; his anger boiled over.
Chloe Reed gripped her phone. "Don’t you have your perfect daughter, Sunny? What difference does it make whether I’m there or not?"
"You brat!" Charles Reed was so furious he wanted to smash his phone. "Get over here right now! If you don’t, I’ll give your shares to Sunny, too!"
With that, he hung up before Chloe could say another word.
Hearing his words, however, made Chloe pause.
’What does that an?’
’What does he an, "my" shares?’
’Charles Reed is giving shares?!’
She didn’t understand what was happening, but there was no way she was going to miss out. She quickly got ready and headed to the hospital.
When she arrived at the hospital room, she saw Sunny Reed was already there.
Autumn Linton looked much better than she had the day before. Charles Reed sat to the side, his face grim, while a secretary stood by holding so docunts.
Chloe asked bluntly, "What did you an by what you said on the phone?"
Charles Reed scowled at her, his expression full of disdain, and then waved his hand dismissively.
The secretary handed the docunts to her.
Chloe took them suspiciously. A glance at the papers showed that Charles Reed was giving her five percent of the company’s shares.
anwhile, Sunny Reed was only getting three percent.
Huh?
’Since when do good things like this happen to ?’
She shot a surprised look at Charles Reed. "I thought you weren’t giving any. Did you just rember I’m your biological daughter?"
Charles Reed’s face remained grim. "Sign it!"
’Never look a gift horse in the mouth.’
Chloe was not one to argue with money. She signed her na briskly and handed the contract back to the secretary.
Still, she couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed.
’She didn’t think Sunny deserved a single cent.’
Charles Reed then turned to Sunny Reed, his tone softening considerably. "Sunny, you should sign, too."
But Sunny didn’t take the contract. Instead, she just smiled and shook her head. "Dad, I don’t have a head for business. The shares would be useless to . You and Mom have been so good to over the years. I’m already more than content."
At her words, both Charles Reed and Autumn Linton stared at her in surprise.
’She hadn’t refused yesterday, but she was refusing now.’
’They couldn’t help but think of one person.’
’Walker Grant.’
’They had left together yesterday.’
’So, could Walker Grant have said sothing to her?’
