"The other docunt is for the shares under her na. I’ve already transferred all of them to you. Once you sign, you’ll beco a shareholder of the Reed Group and will be able to involve yourself in all of its affairs."
Hearing his words, Chloe Reed’s eyes filled with disbelief!
’He actually committed Autumn Linton to a psychiatric hospital?!’
She stared at the diagnostic report, her mind reeling. The whole situation felt unbelievably twisted.
’So, he’s just shifting all the bla onto Autumn Linton?’
He was using the shares to sue for peace.
Chloe Reed was filled with conflicting emotions.
But one thing was clear: she felt not a shred of joy.
She never imagined Charles Reed would do sothing like this.
After decades of marriage, Autumn Linton had been cast aside like a sacrificial pawn.
Chloe Reed didn’t reach for the docunts. She simply asked in a cold voice, "And what about Sunny Reed?"
Charles Reed’s eyes flickered. "She’s been part of the Reed family for so many years, after all. I don’t want to do anything to her. She’ll stay with the Grant family and behave herself from now on. Chloe, can’t you just pretend she doesn’t exist? Please?"
’Is he really planning to let everything Sunny Reed did slide?’
"And what if I insist on going after her?" A wry smile played on Chloe Reed’s lips.
"She’s just an adopted daughter. You’ve both sacrificed so much for her," she said mockingly, before a self-deprecating thought surfaced. ’If sothing were to happen to , how far would they, my parents, go for ?’
’Oh, right. They’d probably set off firecrackers to celebrate. No one would be bothering them anymore, and they could focus all their love on Sunny Reed.’
Charles Reed’s brow furrowed. "Chloe, she’s been behaving lately. She hasn’t done anything to upset you. Why can’t you just let her off the hook?"
"I can’t."
Chloe Reed’s expression turned cold. "Why should I be the one to just let it go after everything she’s done? What about all the pain I suffered? Am I just supposed to take it? I hold grudges. She set up so many tis, and I have no intention of ever letting her get away with it!"
A fierce aura radiated from her. The soft edges he rembered were gone, sharpened into a person he no longer recognized.
’Chloe wasn’t like this before.’
’She used to be willful and spoiled, yes, but she also relied on them. She would cajole them and throw her arms around them in affection....’
But now, she had beco a complete stranger to him.
It felt as if they were not family, but sworn enemies.
Charles Reed sighed softly. "What do you want to do?"
"Disown Sunny Reed." Chloe Reed stated her demand plainly.
Charles Reed’s brow furrowed again. "That’s... not a good idea. She’s been with our family for many years."
But Chloe Reed retorted, "This is just the beginning. If you can’t even take this first step, what makes you think you can ask to spare the Reed Group?"
She stood up to leave, but paused after a few steps. "And I want Autumn Linton to apologize to my grandmother. Don’t think she can hide away in a psychiatric hospital and get away with it."
She looked at Charles Reed’s darkening expression and said, "You’re so protective of Sunny Reed. Don’t tell she’s your illegitimate daughter."
"Outrageous!"
Charles Reed finally snapped, slamming his hand on the table. "Don’t spout such nonsense!"
Chloe Reed simply raised an eyebrow. "If she isn’t, then why are you so protective of her? What secret is she hiding?"
But she didn’t wait for an answer. She just turned and walked away.
If Charles Reed refused to disown Sunny Reed, then the Reed Group’s turmoil would continue.
The only question was how long he could hold out.
"..."
As night enveloped the city, Chloe Reed got into her car and started driving toward the hospital. At that mont, her phone rang.
She pulled it out and saw it was a call from Walker Grant.
’He’s awake?’
