"Why’d you stop calling ’sister’? Is it because there’s no one here to watch your little show?" Chloe Reed shot her a mocking look, her words barbed.
Sunny Reed’s brow furrowed slightly. "I’m not putting on a show. You’ve always misunderstood ."
"Misunderstood you?" Chloe Reed advanced on her, step by step, her piercing eyes cold. "From the ti we were kids until now, have I ever, even once, falsely accused you?"
Sunny Reed instinctively retreated, her eyes filled with wary defensiveness.
’If I get hurt here with no witnesses, it won’t be worth it...’
A glint flashed in her eyes as she said, "Is this because Walker keeps coming to see ? Is that why you’re so angry? Sigh... There’s nothing I can do. Walker cares a lot about Noah. I’ve tried to refuse him every ti, but he insists on coming. What choice do I have?"
"Bitch!"
Iris Yates, who had been listening from the side, couldn’t hold back a curse. "You’re a real piece of work, acting all high and mighty after being a total whore. I’ve seen it all. You’re so vile, it’d be a cri not to slap that face a few tis!"
She stord over, ready for a fight.
But Chloe Reed grabbed her arm, stopping her. "Don’t. She’s a great actress. It’s not worth it if Walker Grant cos after you for this."
Iris Yates was furious. "So we’re just letting her get away with it?"
Chloe Reed said coolly, "As long as we don’t let her get what she wants."
She pressed the elevator button. "I’m divorcing Walker Grant. You three can live happily ever after. Now, get lost."
Sunny Reed pursed her lips, her gaze unreadable. "Everything I said is true. Why won’t you believe ?"
The elevator doors opened, and Chloe Reed ignored her, stepping straight inside.
As soon as the elevator doors slid shut, Sunny Reed pulled her phone out of her pocket, stopped the recording, closed her eyes, and slapped herself across the face.
The sound was sharp. It hurt.
Clutching her cheek, she went straight to the hospital.
On the way, she got a call from a friend. "Sunny, guess who I just saw!"
Sunny Reed asked, puzzled, "Who did you see?"
"Chloe Reed!" her friend whispered. "She ca to my company for an audition! She’s trying out for the female lead’s voice-over role in that big-shot director’s new drama!"
At these words, Sunny Reed’s eyes lit up. "Really?"
"One hundred percent."
"Got it. Thanks."
She hung up just as the car pulled up to the hospital.
She walked into the hospital room, the red mark of a slap on her cheek. Walker Grant imdiately looked up, but when he saw it was her at the door, the light in his eyes died.
Sunny Reed took in his reaction, her fingers clenching for a second. "I’m sorry, Walker," she said. "Chloe still misunderstands us. She refused to co."
As she spoke, she lowered her head just enough to perfectly display her cheek to Walker Grant.
But Walker Grant’s attention wasn’t on her. His voice was tired and distant. "Sunny, you should go ho and rest. There’s nothing going on here."
A flicker of sothing passed through Sunny Reed’s eyes. "Walker," she said, "I think it’s better if you don’t co to see Noah anymore. Chloe doesn’t like , and she doesn’t like Noah. You two have been together for so many years... for things to get this bad because of him... I feel truly awful about it."
Only then did Walker Grant’s gaze finally land on her. "Noah is my older brother’s only child. Of course I’m going to look after him—"
He trailed off as he saw the red handprint on her cheek.
"Sunny, who hit you?"
Sunny Reed quickly tried to hide her face with her hair in a flustered panic. "It’s... it’s nothing. That Miss Yates didn’t an to. She just misunderstood , sa as Chloe."
Hearing this, the expression on Walker Grant’s face slowly darkened.
