Chloe Reed was exasperated. "It’s not a big deal, so why are you apologizing?"
Iris Yates stamred, "It’s just... I’d already planned out exactly how I was going to rip into Grant the Scumbag, but now I don’t get the chance. It’s a real sha, and I feel like I’ve let myself down."
Chloe Reed: "..."
She hung up.
Preston Vance watched the corner of her mouth twitch, a smile on his face. "Did sothing amusing happen?" he asked.
"No." Chloe Reed shook her head. But in that brief mont of distraction, a girl suddenly ran out in front of them and slamd right into her car!
Chloe Reed slamd on the brakes, but the girl was still struck, tumbling to the ground and rolling several tis!
The sudden accident startled Chloe Reed.
Preston Vance’s expression grew serious. "Don’t be scared," he said. "Your car has a dashcam. They won’t be able to scam you."
He then got out of the car and walked over to check on the girl.
The girl looked to be about eighteen or nineteen. She had scrapes on her arms and legs, and her hair was disheveled, yet she anxiously tried to get up and leave.
Chloe Reed got out of the car as well. She watched for a mont with a frown, then asked, "Hi, are you okay?"
The girl, however, just shook her head. "I’m okay, I’m okay... I didn’t run into you on purpose, and I don’t want any compensation. I have sowhere to be, so I have to go."
She managed to get to her feet and started limping away, but after just two steps, she swayed and collapsed.
Chloe Reed rushed over to check on her. The girl had fainted.
Only then did Chloe notice that the girl was very frail, her face was unnaturally pale, and she looked extrely weak.
She quickly dialed 911.
The girl had a fractured leg, but no other injuries. Chloe Reed breathed a sigh of relief.
By the ti the commotion was over, it was already past ten o’clock.
Preston Vance was about to offer so words of comfort when his phone rang. "Hello? Okay, I’m on my way."
He hung up and looked at her with a helpless expression. "I have a very important eting at the company, so I have to go."
Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay. Thank you for staying with through all this."
Preston Vance smiled warmly. "If you really want to thank , you can treat to dinner."
Chloe Reed nodded. "No problem."
Watching Preston Vance leave, she frowned slightly. ’I was hoping he could wait here for a bit while I went to the Civil Affairs Bureau, but that’s not an option anymore.’
She called Daniel Hayes over. "You wait here for a bit. I’m going to go finalize the divorce, and then I’ll be back."
Daniel Hayes nodded. "Okay, Miss Reed."
Chloe Reed hurried to the Civil Affairs Bureau, arriving just before they closed for lunch.
But Walker Grant was nowhere to be seen at the entrance. Only Dylan Finch stood there.
When he saw her arrive, Dylan Finch glanced at his watch and said, "Ma’am, you’re two hours late."
Chloe Reed’s brow furrowed. She replied coldly, "He was three hours late yesterday. Did I say anything then?"
Dylan Finch said, "Mr. Grant was held up with business."
"I was held up by sothing too, but I still waited for him for three hours. Now, where is he?" Chloe Reed demanded coldly.
Dylan Finch replied, "Mr. Grant’s ti is precious; he has already left. He instructed to wait here and tell you that you are to be here at nine a.m. tomorrow. If you’re late again, he’ll suspect you don’t actually want the divorce."
Hah!
Chloe Reed laughed, utterly infuriated.
’Just who is the one who doesn’t want the divorce?!’
’And now he has the audacity to say that!’
Chloe Reed asked, "Where is he?"
Dylan Finch said, "Mr. Grant is in a eting at the company."
"Fine. I’ll wait until his eting is over and then co back. The Civil Affairs Bureau doesn’t close for the afternoon, after all." As she spoke, Chloe Reed pulled open her car door and got in.
