Scott family.
Upon learning of Henry Chapman’s arrival in the afternoon, Sophie Scott’s heart couldn’t stop trembling.
Applying a face mask, doing makeup, trying on clothes, doing her hair—she dressed up ticulously.
She spent the entire morning in her room, carefully grooming herself bit by bit, fearing even the slightest flaw.
At lunchti, to not ruin her makeup, she barely ate a few bites. When she put down her bowl and chopsticks, Alma Ferreira praised her with satisfaction, without the slightest worry for her daughter’s stomach.
This scene caught Oliver Scott’s eye, causing him a wave of irritation.
After lunch, Oliver Scott went back to his bedroom, grabbed his bag, and walked downstairs.
"Mom, I’m going to the library."
Oliver Scott said to Alma Ferreira, who was in the living room introducing the Chapman family to Sophie.
"Go ahead." Fully engrossed in the afternoon’s visitor, Alma Ferreira didn’t even ask a single question after hearing him, just casually instructed, "Rember to co back early."
"Okay."
Without another glance, Oliver Scott turned and walked out of the living room.
...
At two in the afternoon, Mrs. Chapman and Henry Chapman arrived as expected.
Mrs. Chapman was a very charming woman, over fifty, well-maintained, with a full presence. From her hair to her toes, everything about her was so perfect, like the most exquisite noblewoman. Her deanor and manners were also exceptionally pleasant.
Compared to her, Henry Chapman was different, casual and indifferent, only his appearance bore so resemblance, enough for people to recognize them as mother and son.
Yet he still stood out, even dressed in inconspicuous clothing with no adornnts, standing there, his innate nobility was impossible to ignore.
From the mont she saw him, Sophie Scott froze in place, her heart fluttering like a little deer, thumping, while her hands and feet were stiff with no idea where to place them.
"Sophie."
It was Alma Ferreira who ca over, giving her a slight reminder.
Sophie Scott quickly ca to her senses, offered a gentle smile, and greeted the two, "Hello, Mrs. Chapman. Henry."
Mrs. Chapman smiled slightly, her gaze softly sweeping over Sophie, her voice gentle and pleasant, "Sophie, what a little beauty."
"You flatter , Mrs. Chapman."
Sophie spoke with modesty, but felt a sigh of relief inside, then bead with joy.
Then, she fluttered her eyelashes gently and cautiously cast a glance at Henry Chapman, trying to find a hint in his eyes.
But, she did not earn even a second of his direct gaze.
Lightly pressing her lips together, Sophie Scott lowered her head slightly, an indescribable sense of defeat in her heart.
Because Alma Ferreira knew Mrs. Chapman, Sophie had t Henry Chapman once at a gathering, and from that brief encounter, she fell in love at first sight.
Later, with the excuse of "seeking inspiration," she obtained Henry’s contact information, racking her brains to maintain the conversation and keep in touch. Eventually, she discovered Henry enjoyed eating barbecue for a period of ti, and on Lily Turner’s advice, she suggested to Henry, "recomnd a barbecue restaurant."
Henry agreed, and the plan was going well.
Then ca an unexpected person, Nora Scott, disrupting their plan completely.
Now was their third eting, with the sa nervousness and panic as the first, mingled with an uncontrollable joy.
"Co, have a seat."
Alma Ferreira invited the two, leading them into the reception room.
Lisa brought out snacks, fruits, and tea, instantly creating a tea party atmosphere.
Sophie sat beside Alma, her smile radiant, nervous but not restrained, occasionally chiming in with a sentence. In quiet monts, she would ere towards Henry Chapman, stealing quick glances, not daring to be too obvious.
From the mont they entered to taking their seat, besides saying hello, Henry Chapman hadn’t spoken, just sat quietly. The light cast on him, enhancing his aloofness, his innate distance contrasting the tea party’s atmosphere distinctly.
He was in his own world.
He held a phone, occasionally it lit up, he would lower his eyelids, scrolling occasionally, as if replying to ssages while his fingers swiped over it.
... Who he was chatting with, Sophie thought enviously.
"Ding-dong—ding-dong—"
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Alma Ferreira’s joy was beyond words, and she eagerly asked Lisa, who was going to see the visitor, "Is Mr. Scott back?"
Today, with the Chapman family visiting, Alma Ferreira hoped Ernesto Scott could put aside work and co back, to leverage the opportunity to strengthen relations with the Chapman family, while also discussing Henry and Sophie’s matters. However, Ernesto Scott flatly refused with no room for negotiation.
Now, hearing the doorbell, Alma Ferreira just assud Ernesto had changed his mind, feeling ecstatic.
"No, it’s... " Restricted by the presence of outsiders, Lisa didn’t call out directly, pausing slightly and then bowed her head to correct herself, "Miss Scott."
"..."
The smile froze instantly on Alma Ferreira’s face.
The iron gate of the courtyard was open, and through the French window, a slender and tall figure walked in. From her deanor to her aura, they exuded an overwhelming presence, sharp and excessive.
