Cain, dressed in his League trainer uniform, ventured into the mountains without notifying anyone.
He didn’t take the sa path as before. This ti, Cain decided to head in a different direction, southward, toward Littleroot Town. Traveling on foot would take him several days, provided no unexpected complications arose.
Skorupi and Sneasel accompanied him.
They were still at the outskirts of the forest, where the wild Pokémon weren’t very high level, making it an ideal training ground for Skorupi.
The main goal of this journey was to train Skorupi, as prolonged exercise would help it absorb the toxic energy accumulating in its body more quickly.
Wandering aimlessly through the forest could lead to accidentally invading the territory of wild Pokémon.
If the territory belonged to a small group of Pokémon, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but if there were a large number of Pokémon, hostility was almost guaranteed.
In the forest’s depths, Pokémon fiercely defended their territories.
These were basic survival rules in the forest, but for Cain and his team, such rules didn’t apply.
Skorupi, standing at 1.2 ters tall, took the lead. Its sharp pincers moved non-stop, as if practicing boxing, while its long tail hovered above its head, motionless and easy to overlook.
Clearly, after spending ti outdoors and participating in a few battles, Skorupi was excited.
Since Cain had captured it, Skorupi hadn’t had the chance to lead a fight. It always watched its older "siblings" battle while scavenging the leftovers or, in many cases, just cheering from the sidelines.
While this kept it safe, for a combat-thirsty Pokémon like Skorupi, it was frustrating.
This ti, it was finally Skorupi’s turn to fight. It was no wonder it was so enthusiastic.
Cain watched as Skorupi moved like it owned the place, strutting like a crab crossing the street, and couldn’t help but smile.
He decided not to stop it, as they were still in the forest’s outer regions, where Pokémon weren’t high-level. At level 26, Skorupi was more than capable of handling the challenges.
Additionally, Sneasel, at level 32, was there to back it up in case Skorupi faced an opponent too strong to handle alone.
However, as they ventured deeper into the forest, Sneasel would also have to take the lead in battles.
As they walked, Cain noticed the bushes around them becoming more colorful, a sign they had entered a special area.
It could be the territory of a Pokémon or an area rich in natural resources.
They hadn’t gone far when Cain realized his assumption was correct—they were in the middle of a wild Pokémon’s territory.
One Pokémon decided to ambush Cain, aiming its attack primarily at him, perceiving him as the most vulnerable in the group.

At first glance, this Vileplu had good stats and abilities, but as a final evolution, its potential was already more limited.
It wasn’t a bad Pokémon, but given Cain’s current level, Vileplu no longer piqued his interest as a training prospect.
Still, for Skorupi, it was a perfect opponent.
Vileplu had evolved from a Gloom with the help of a Leaf Stone, and this one clearly ruled the territory.
It had likely stumbled upon a Leaf Stone by chance, allowing it to complete its evolution.
Although Cain wasn’t interested in training Vileplu, it remained a valuable specin for a Pokémon hunter. Even if he didn’t sell it, it could be useful for training his subordinates.
After all, Vileplu’s Grass and Poison type gave it many moves beneficial for survival in the wild.
Cain was particularly interested in its Sweet Scent move, which could attract nurous wild Pokémon, making training and capturing easier.
However, Skorupi had to defeat it first.
Vileplu, with its Grass and Poison types, didn’t have clear weaknesses against Skorupi, also a Poison type.
Even so, its Grass- and Poison-type moves wouldn’t be very effective against Skorupi.
Skorupi resisted Grass moves four tis over and Poison moves twice over.
Vileplu lunged, using Giga Drain.
This Grass-type move not only dealt damage but also restored the user’s energy.
A small blue hand glowed with green energy as Vileplu advanced rapidly.
"The opponent is close. Get ready, Skorupi! Use Agility and counter with Bug Bite."
Cain, accustod to wild Pokémon ambushes, remained calm, issuing precise instructions to Skorupi.
Upon hearing Cain’s orders, Skorupi displayed a look of excitent. With a shout, it planted its legs firmly on the ground, kicking up dirt and dead leaves as its speed drastically increased. Then, it opened its massive jaws, already charged with Bug-type energy.
With its large size and growing strength, Skorupi had beco Cain’s strongest Pokémon in terms of raw physical power.
It might only be level 26, but in terms of sheer strength, none of Cain’s other Pokémon could compete.
Skorupi and Vileplu collided midway.
Boom!
Vileplu’s Giga Drain struck Skorupi, but Skorupi’s Bug Bite also landed on one of Vileplu’s petals.
In the next mont, Skorupi took three steps back, while Vileplu was sent flying five or six ters, crashing into a tree.
