Now reading: Chapter 538: The Surprising Affinity with Ghost-Type Pokémon from Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom (Re-Upload), a Fantasy novel by GoldenDragonKing.

After all, Phoebe was the future Elite Four mber of the Hoenn region, so Cain needed to show her so respect.

He waved his hand, signaling that there was no problem.

Even if she weren’t the future Ghost Queen, seeing the ever-growing number of Ghost-type Pokémon around, he had to show courtesy.

"What an incredible affinity with Ghost-type Pokémon!" Cain thought, amazed.

"In any case, this isn’t a place you should be approaching. If you follow the line of rocks behind you, you’ll return to the stairs leading up the mountain," said Phoebe, pointing to a path.

The surrounding Ghost-type Pokémon began to disperse, and the concentration of ghostly energy gradually decreased.

After saying this, Phoebe turned to leave.

"Wait a mont," Cain interrupted her.

Phoebe turned around, a curious expression on her face.

Cain wasn’t sure how long it would take to find the entrance to the inner zones of Mt. Pyre, but now he had the perfect guide standing right in front of him.

Phoebe’s appearance reinforced Cain’s certainty about the existence of an inner area rich in ghostly energy.

Cain called Haunter to co closer and said:

"This little one is ready to evolve, but we haven’t found the right thod. I’ve heard that an intense concentration of ghostly energy might help it evolve."

Phoebe looked at Haunter, her eyes lighting up.

"This Haunter has been trained exceptionally well," Phoebe thought.

"So, I was wondering if Mt. Pyre has a place with a high concentration of ghostly energy that could help it evolve," Cain continued.

Phoebe considered his words for a mont.

The inner zones of Mt. Pyre... Her grandparents had told her not to take anyone there.

They had warned her that for ordinary people, the intense ghostly energy could be overwhelming and cause irreversible effects on their bodies.

But if what this young man said was true, and Haunter truly needed such a place to evolve, the inner zones were perfect.

Besides, she rembered that it was her Pokémon, Dusclops, who had attacked Cain first, and she herself had misunderstood the situation. Despite that, Cain hadn’t made any complaints.

It felt like she owed him a favor, and her grandparents had always told her that favors must be repaid.

Should she take him or not?

While Phoebe pondered, Mismagius, who had been accompanying Cain, couldn’t contain herself anymore.

The sound of the Soothe Bell resonated clearly in the air.

Phoebe lifted her head, eting Mismagius’s bright red eyes.

A look of surprise and excitent crossed her face, and she ran toward Cain—or rather, toward Mismagius.

Normally, Mismagius, who was quite shy, would have hidden behind Cain when soone approached suddenly, as she often did even with Professor Oak.

However, when Phoebe approached, Mismagius didn’t hide; she simply observed her curiously.

There was sothing about this human that felt strangely familiar.

An incredible affinity with Ghost-type Pokémon.

Cain couldn’t help but admire her.

Just as Phoebe was about to hug Mismagius, the latter vanished, dodging the embrace. Although she wasn’t uncomfortable with Phoebe’s presence, she also didn’t appreciate being hugged by a stranger.

Phoebe, failing to secure her hug, watched as Mismagius stayed close to Cain.

"Is this Mismagius also your Pokémon?" Phoebe asked, realizing her own impudence and smiling sheepishly.

Cain nodded.

"In a strict sense, yes," he replied. "Although, for now, I can’t give her commands in battle."

"I don’t sense any aura around her. If I hadn’t heard the sound of her bell, I wouldn’t even have noticed her presence," Phoebe remarked, surprised.

Then she closed her eyes and used her psychic abilities to perceive Mismagius’s state. When she did, her face paled slightly, and a look of astonishnt appeared.

"That... that energy..." she stamred.

Phoebe’s behavior took Cain by surprise.

"Even if she realized that Mismagius is elite level, she shouldn’t react like this, should she?" Cain wondered.

After all, she was the future Ghost-type Elite Four mber.

Regaining her composure, Phoebe looked at Cain with newfound respect.

"Has this Mismagius reached the elite level?" Phoebe asked.

Cain nodded.

"Yes, Mismagius was already at that level before joining , but she’s quite naïve, so she hasn’t fought much."

"I see. Then, you have the right to enter Mt. Pyre’s inner zones," Phoebe replied.

With that, she began walking toward the mountain’s interior, with Dusclops following her as if it knew it had made a mistake.

Cain followed, accompanied by an alert Haunter and a curious Mismagius observing her surroundings.

"My na is Phoebe. What’s yours?" she asked as they walked.

"Cain."

"Are you a trainer from outside? It seems you don’t specialize in Ghost-types, right?"

Cain nodded.

"Cain, is the outside world fun?"

"... I suppose so," Cain replied, sowhat awkwardly.

"What’s the outside world like? Is it full of non-Ghost Pokémon?"

"Yes."

"Do you have other Pokémon? Can I see them?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"..."

"Cain..."

"..."

The journey, which took about 15 minutes, felt to Cain like a constant buzz in his ears.

He never would have imagined that this girl, who initially seed sowhat cold, would turn into a chatterbox once she felt comfortable.

Throughout the journey, Phoebe asked questions about the outside world.

For Cain, who understood that she had never left Mt. Pyre, it was understandable, albeit exhausting.

Finally, they arrived at a large rock.

When Cain touched it, it felt like an ordinary rock.

Phoebe, however, extended her hand, and the rock’s surface rippled like water, allowing her to pass through.

"Is that how it works?" Following her example, Cain enveloped his hand in psychic energy and extended it toward the rock.

Just like Phoebe, he was able to pass through.

However, both Phoebe and Dusclops stared at him in amazent, as if they had just witnessed sothing incredible.
