Gyarados compressed its aura, locking onto the Charizard below. Then, it reversed direction abruptly, diving down at terminal velocity, aiming to crash straight into the fire dragon.
Water vs. Fire.
Hydro Cot vs. Blast Burn.
One side: The ultimate explosive fla, powered by Blaze and desperation.
The other side: A hydro-powered teor, boosted by four Dragon Dances and the resolve to crush everything in its path.
The two attacks collided in mid-air.
BOOM!!!! —
A terrifying explosion erupted. The Blast Burn lived up to its na, detonating in the air into a magnificent mushroom cloud of fire, like a grand firework display.
Simultaneously, the intense clash of water and fire instantly vaporized the water, shrouding the entire arena in white steam.
The center of the collision, where Gyarados and Charizard were, was completely obscured. Only a field of thick steam remained.
Fortunately, the protective barrier around the arena held firm; otherwise, the shockwaves and fire from the Blast Burn might have reached Kenji and Yun Erdun on the sidelines.
Inside the white mist, specks of fire flickered like fireflies—remnants of the explosion raining down.
It added a layer of mystery to the scene, making everyone hold their breath to see the outco.
Gradually, the steam began to dissipate.
As the mist thinned, a massive, vague blue silhouette standing tall within the fog slowly beca visible.
It was Gyarados!!!
Gyarados stood upright, its body covered in heavy injuries, but its imposing aura hadn't diminished in the slightest. If anything, the battle scars only added to its ferocity.
In front of it, Charizard lay on its back. The fla on its tail was extrely weak. It was clearly unable to battle.
The result was obvious.
"Charizard is unable to battle!!! Gyarados wins the match!!!"
Winning against an Elite-level (Level 86) opponent while having a type advantage.
Even with the advantage, this proved that the current Gyarados was far beyond the reach of ordinary Elite-level Pokémon.
With this strength, Gyarados firmly secured its spot in the top three of Kenji's team, right behind the ace Beedrill.
Yun Erdun recalled his unconscious Charizard.
Two losses in a row.
For his third Pokémon, Yun Erdun threw his Poké Ball. A Pokémon that couldn't exactly be called handso appeared on the field.
It was Yun Erdun's true Ace: Fearow.
Seeing Yun Erdun send out his Ace, Kenji didn't ss around. He recalled Gyarados and threw Beedrill's ball.
The mont Beedrill appeared, Yun Erdun's face turned green, looking like he had swallowed a fly.
He had seen Beedrill's power firsthand.
This was the monster that had single-handedly suppressed three Super Ancient Pokémon.
How am I supposed to fight that?
It couldn't be helped. Kenji preferred not to use Beedrill for small skirmishes, as it felt like overkill. He wanted to give his other Pokémon more exercise.
But against Yun Erdun's Ace Fearow, none of Kenji's other Pokémon stood a chance. Even Arbok wasn't ready yet, still being at Gym Leader level (Level 68).
Only once Arbok broke through to Elite level would it have a fighting chance against Fearow.
Yun Erdun was decisive. He forfeited the pointless match and handed over the Saibei Gym Badge.
With this, Kenji now had six badges. Only two more to go for the Huaxia League Conference requirent.
He didn't have a solid plan for where to get the last two yet.
After winning the badge and chatting briefly with Yun Erdun and Yang Yue, Kenji made an excuse about having urgent business and left.
It wasn't entirely a lie. He did intend to transfer the two new Pokémon, Aerodactyl and Lileep, to Mina and Li Heng imdiately.
Arriving at the Pokémon Center, Kenji first made a video call to Mina (ng Ning).
Mina had heard Kenji was sending her a Pokémon and was already waiting at the transfer machine inside Imperial Academy.
"Why are you sending another Pokémon?" Mina asked, blinking her eyes in confusion on the screen.
From Magikarp to Noibat, the Pokémon Kenji had given her all had high potential. Even if they hadn't fully matured yet, they were destined to beco her main team.
Kenji shrugged, speaking casually. "That's what friends do. When I find good Pokémon, I think of you two."
"You two" obviously referred to Mina and Li Heng.
"Oh..." A flicker of unnoticeable emotion dimd in Mina's eyes, but she quickly adjusted her mood and asked what Pokémon it was this ti.
Kenji blinked and kept it a secret. "You'll see."
They didn't talk much longer. After hanging up, Kenji connected to Mina's transfer machine and sent Aerodactyl's ball over.
Just then, Li Heng called.
After the National League, Kenji had fild a comrcial for Li Heng's parents' barbecue restaurant.
The endorsent of the National League Champion carried as much weight as a top celebrity.
Thanks to Kenji, the restaurant's business was booming, reportedly expanding beyond Lincheng into the wider East Mountain Province.
Kenji looked forward to eating "Brother Bin's BBQ" all over the country one day.
His conversation with Li Heng was much less formal. They chatted nonsense for an hour before Kenji finally hung up and transferred Lileep.
Having dealt with the two Fossil Pokémon, Kenji finally returned to his room. He opened the System interface, eager to draw his new Hex Core.
