Since this was the first ti Sora had cooked for Bloodmoon Ursaluna, he had no idea how large the bear's appetite truly was. So he simply prepared as much food as possible.
The result, naturally, was a surplus.
Throwing it away was out of the question.
So Sora warmly called over the Pokémon drawn by the delicious aroma and began handing out the leftovers for free.
"One at a ti, line up—no pushing. There's enough for everyone."
"Poné~ Poné-ao~"
"Lilligant~~"
Ogerpon and Lilligant worked together efficiently—scooping food into bowls and passing them to Sora for distribution.
The Pokémon, thrilled by the unexpected feast, happily stepped forward. Before long, they were completely at ease around him.
"Haha."
Sora gently lifted a Pachirisu that had started licking his face.
"Such a good little one. Here—this berry is for you too."
"Pachi~~"
Having secured extra food through sheer cuteness, Pachirisu looked utterly satisfied.
The little creature was unusually affectionate. Even when leaving, it made sure to act spoiled toward Sora one last ti.
"Pachirisu, huh…"
Sora truly loved Pokémon.
Even after nearly two years in this world, he still felt a sense of wonder.
Being able to co here… is really amazing.
He handed a small portion of food to the Buneary in front of him. Then, under its puzzled gaze, he enthusiastically stroked the fluffy fur on its ears.
Wow… that texture. Seriously.
Why do I suddenly want to catch a Buneary?
He simply had no resistance to soft, plush, animal-like Pokémon.
Just imagining burying his face in their fluffy bellies and soaking in that healing comfort made him want to pull out a Poké Ball imdiately and make Buneary part of the family.
And that Pachirisu earlier… maybe I should've asked it to co with .
Unfortunately, it had run off too quickly.
His gaze returned to Buneary.
Maybe I should ask this one?
…
Forget it.
His painfully thin wallet yanked him back to reality.
With Ursaluna around, there's no way I can afford to support more Pokémon right now.
Sora sighed softly.
Running into Pokémon he genuinely liked—yet being unable to catch them freely—was a frustrating feeling.
I'll save that for the future.
He made a quiet vow to himself:
One day, he would gather every fluffy, adorable Pokémon he loved.
That was his ultimate dream in the Pokémon world.
"Mii~"
Just as Sora drifted into his thoughts, the Buneary—still enjoying the head pats—tugged gently at his clothes.
"Hm? What is it?"
He withdrew his hand, only to see the Buneary staring at him expectantly.
He coughed awkwardly.
"Ahem… well, I gave you food, and you let touch your ears. That's fair, right?"
Buneary wasn't a human child, after all.
Petting Pokémon definitely wasn't illegal.
"Mii~"
The Buneary clearly didn't understand his reasoning. It tilted its head slightly, then began gesturing and chattering.
"Uh…"
"V~~"
Scratching his head, Sora called Victini over to translate.
"Bi-ni."
Soon, Victini had a brief conversation with Buneary.
Floating in the air with arms crossed, Victini nodded repeatedly in understanding.
"You're saying… this little one wants another portion of food?"
Sora was surprised.
Not because Pokémon were supposed to be perfectly selfless—but the Buneary in front of him didn't seem greedy at all.
"Did sothing happen, Buneary?"
Sora was generally kind toward Pokémon. If they were in trouble, and he had the ability to help, he wouldn't hesitate.
And truthfully—
He did have the strength to help.
With Ursaluna, Ponpon, and Victini together, even if the opponent were an actual deity, Sora would still dare to challenge it.
Winning was another matter.
But fighting? Absolutely possible.
"Bi-ni-ni, bi-ni."
Before long, Victini finished translating.
The situation beca clear.
Buneary wasn't living alone.
Inside its burrow was an injured companion.
The reason it asked for extra food was to take care of that friend.
"I see."
Sora nodded.
"Go ahead and eat your portion first."
"After that, take to them."
"If the injury is serious, your care alone probably won't be enough for recovery."
As ntioned before, Pokémon effectively had three chances at survival.
But prolonged injuries that refused to heal usually ant the Pokémon had been attacked again after fainting.
As for shrinking to survive—
Sora doubted the injured Pokémon was strong enough to possess that ability.
"Mi!!"
Hearing that Sora was willing to help, Buneary began hopping excitedly in place.
The little Pokémon showed zero suspicion.
To it, any human willing to give food freely couldn't possibly be a bad person.
"Alright, let's go."
About fifteen minutes later, Sora finished packing up the campsite and carefully disposed of all cooking waste.
Then, under Buneary's guidance, they headed toward its nest.
Though calling it a nest might have been generous.
It was really just a narrow dirt hollow beneath the roots of a tree.
"Mii~~"
Buneary stopped and beckoned to Sora, signaling that it would go down first to bring its friend out.
Seeing this, Sora wasted no ti.
He removed his backpack and began searching through his dical supplies.
"Potion spray… antidote… and a Revitalizing Root."
Both the spray and the root could heal injuries, but they worked differently.
The spray focused on external wounds.
The root replenished depleted elental energy, restoring balance to a Pokémon's internal system.
During his years in Eindoak, Sora had prepared extensively for travel.
How to care for Pokémon.
How to assess their physical condition.
How to treat injuries and relieve fatigue.
These were skills he had learned from the People of the Vale.
If professional certification existed, Sora was confident he could at least qualify as a junior Pokémon Breeder.
"Mii~~"
anwhile, Buneary erged from the burrow carrying another Pokémon on its back.
At first glance, their similar coloring made it hard to distinguish them.
But after looking more closely, Sora imdiately recognized the species.
"It's actually an Eevee."
