Now reading: Chapter 4 4: The Terrifying Energy Ball from Pokémon: Starting From Zero as a Legendary Pokémon, a Action novel by YonkoSlayer.

"Are you sure you want to use Lilligant to battle my Infernape?"

Brock was a bit surprised. He truly had no intention of taking advantage of Sora Kenji.

But as a trainer, facing a Grass-type opponent and not sending out a Fire-type—it simply wasn't sothing he could do.

After all, not everyone was like that knucklehead who mastered battling with type disadvantages.

Fighting without caring about matchups, sending out whichever Pokémon he pleased.

A proper trainer would always try to accumulate advantages—and type advantage was undoubtedly the simplest one.

"No problem."

Sora Kenji smiled.

"My Lilligant is very strong."

He could understand what Brock ant.

The other boy was a decent person.

But the reality was that Sora Kenji only had Lilligant as his combat power.

Since that was the case, he might as well be straightforward about it.

If you chose not to use type advantage—that was gentlemanly.

If you did use it—

that made you a qualified trainer.

"You're that confident in your Lilligant?"

Brock carefully observed her. With his experience, he actually couldn't see anything particularly special about this Lilligant.

A Pokémon's strength and the quality of its training couldn't be judged by sight alone.

That required experience.

Only soone who had seen many Lilligant could determine whether the color of their petals and leaves was vibrant—and how that correlated with their strength.

Those kinds of knowledge and data weren't things Brock possessed. He wasn't a researcher, and he had very little battle experience against Lilligant.

I'll test the waters first.

Having made up his decision, Brock imdiately waved his hand.

"Infernape, use Flathrower!"

"Wuga!!"

Receiving the command, Infernape didn't hesitate. A torrent of flas burst from its mouth.

A rolling wave of heat instantly engulfed the battlefield on the deck. The sheer coverage sealed off every possible path for Lilligant to dodge.

"So hot!"

"Ah—hot, hot!"

Spectators who had been standing too close hurriedly stepped back. Adults shielded the children behind them, leaving only small heads peeking out—cautious yet curious as they watched the battle.

"Flathrower, huh?"

"Not bad power, but..."

Truthfully, Sora Kenji wasn't particularly skilled at Pokémon battles.

Especially this kind of real-ti command scenario—it required extensive experience and deep synergy with one's Pokémon.

But in Sora Kenji's view, so things weren't so absolute.

"Energy Ball!"

"Lilligant~~"

Upon receiving the command, Lilligant imdiately clasped her hands together, forming a pale-green sphere of energy in her palms.

But that wasn't the end.

As her montum surged, the Energy Ball—originally the size of a basketball—swelled in the blink of an eye to over one ter in diater.

"That's huge!"

"W-What is that?!"

The scene left the surrounding spectators completely stunned.

Even Brock and Infernape—whose vision was partially obscured by the flas—instinctively sensed the deadly threat radiating from that attack.

"What is that?!"

As the Energy Ball continued to expand, Brock finally noticed the terrifying concentration of Grass-type energy.

"That's an Energy Ball? But how can it be that big?!"

The realization struck him instantly.

"This is bad! Infernape!!"

"Too late!"

Almost the mont Sora Kenji finished speaking, the massive Energy Ball had already been launched.

The process looked slow and elaborate—

but in reality, it happened just one second after Infernape unleashed Flathrower.

Boom!

The towering wall of fire collapsed like a punctured bubble the instant it collided with the Energy Ball.

"What?!"

Fast.

From the mont Sora Kenji gave the command to the instant green light flooded the entire field—

there wasn't even enough ti for Brock to shout, "Dodge!"

"Infernape!!"

All he could see was the Flathrower being violently blown apart—

followed by the enormous Energy Ball, nearly engulfing Infernape entirely as it slamd into him.

The speed at which Lilligant condensed Grass-type energy was simply unimaginable to Brock and his Pokémon.

They couldn't comprehend it.

Why was it so fast?

They had released their moves at the sa ti.

In fact, Lilligant had even started slightly later.

And the projectile speed of the Energy Ball was just as astonishing.

BOOM!!

"Infernape!"

Watching his partner get struck, Brock raised his arm to shield himself from the oncoming smoke and shockwave.

It's not over yet. That was just one hit. Infernape should—

Grass-type moves against Fire-type Pokémon carried heavy resistance.

In theory, a single hit shouldn't be enough to knock out Infernape.

But reality was rciless.

As the smoke cleared, what appeared before everyone was Infernape lying motionless on the scorched black deck—

clearly unable to continue the battle.

"S-So strong."

"With that kind of power… that young man is actually such a skilled trainer?"

"..."

Yes—Infernape reduced Grass-type damage by 50%.

But the sheer force of that Energy Ball had been so overwhelming that it exceeded Infernape's capacity to endure.

In the real Pokémon world, there was no such thing as absolute type immunity.

Take Ground-type attacks against Flying-types.

It made sense that Earthquake couldn't hit a Flying Pokémon hovering in the air.

But what if that Flying Pokémon happened to be standing on the ground?

Or consider moves like High Horsepower, Precipice Blades, or Scorching Sands—attacks carrying raw physical montum.

Even if part of the Ground-type energy were reduced, the remaining force wasn't sothing just any Pokémon could withstand.

Otherwise, imagine Groudon using Precipice Blades and failing to knock out a tiny Pidgey.

Wouldn't that be absurd?

"Whoa, whoa—that was terrifying."

A middle-aged man in a white captain's hat, around fifty years old, stared speechlessly at the charred battlefield.

This was his beloved ship, after all.

That said, the materials technology in the Pokémon world was truly remarkable.

If the ship's overall durability was rely average—

then the battle platform on the deck was anything but.

Just look at it.

Despite Lilligant's devastating Energy Ball, the surface had only cracked instead of being blasted straight through.

"Ah, sorry about that…"

Seeing the damage, Sora Kenji quickly apologized.

"Haha, it's fine, it's fine."

The captain waved it off casually.

"This area was built specifically for battles. Even if it didn't get damaged, we'd still repair it regularly."

Then he grinned.

"But your Lilligant—she really opened our eyes!"

"Seriously—she's so cute, yet she can unleash a move like that."

"Lilligant is amazing~~"

Amid the adults' praise and the children's cheers and admiration, even Lilligant began to blush slightly.

Shyly, she lowered her head.
