Now reading: Chapter 102 102: The Battle at the Veiled Dojo (Part 2) from Pokemon: Mastering the Unseen Type, a Adventure novel by Shadowscale.

The dusty floor of the Veilstone Dojo felt like a pressure cooker. Julian stood his ground, watching the aftermath of the collision between Growlithe and dicham. The spectators in the stands—including the pink-haired Maylene—were silent, their eyes glued to the orange pup who was panting but still standing tall.

"Woof!" 🐾

Growlithe let out a sharp, high-pitched bark. It was ant to be a fierce battle cry, but coming from a creature that still looked like a ball of toasted marshmallow fluff, it sounded more adorable than intimidating. Across from him, dicham had regained its balance. The icy blue shards from its previous Ice Punch were still lting on the floor, mixing with the golden dust of Sylveon's lingering stars. It looked like a seasoned warrior, its breathing rhythmic and deep.

"dicham, charge forward! Show them the path of the brave!" Aaron roared, striking a pose that mirrored his Pokémon.

"dicham!" The Psychic-type launched itself forward, its fist already glowing with a bone-chilling frost.

Julian's eyes narrowed. He could see the difference imdiately. This dicham was on a completely different level than the Machoke from before. Even though it was technically in the sa "Official Class" rank as Machoke, its speed, precision, and raw aura were terrifying. If Machoke was a brawler, dicham was a surgeon.

He's way faster, Julian thought. But I didn't swap Sylveon out for nothing. It's ti for so strategic sabotage.

"Growlithe, now! Will-O-Wisp!"

The timing was crucial. dicham was already halfway across the arena, committed to its dash. At this distance, with that kind of montum, dodging was a physical impossibility.

Growlithe opened his mouth, but instead of the usual bright orange embers, a sinister, ghostly blue fla flickered between his teeth. The light reflected off his fur, giving the little pup an eerie, supernatural glow. He spat the blue fire in a spinning spiral.

"Oh no! dicham, abort! Dodge now!" Aaron's voice lost its playful edge. He knew exactly what was coming.

dicham tried to pivot, its feet sliding against the wooden floorboards, but the ghostly fla was faster. The wisp struck dicham squarely on the shoulder, erupting into a pale blue fire that didn't burn the skin but seed to sink into its muscles like a cold parasite.

At the sa ti, dicham's frozen fist connected with the side of Growlithe's face. Thwack! The impact sent the pup tumbling back several feet, shaking his head to clear the ice chips from his ears.

"Woof..." Growlithe grumbled, his fur a bit ssy, but he looked largely unhard.

dicham, on the other hand, stood still. Faint, flickering sparks of blue fire danced across its skin every few seconds. Though its face remained a mask of calm, a bead of sweat rolled down its temple.

The Burn was in effect.

In a competitive battle, a Burn was a death sentence for a physical attacker. It didn't just drain stamina; it effectively cut the Pokémon's physical strength in half. Since Gym Leaders weren't allowed to use items like Full Heals or Rawst Berries during a match, Aaron was now fighting with a handicap.

Julian had specifically trained Growlithe to master this move for this exact reason. Fighting-types were famous for their physical prowess, and Will-O-Wisp was the ultimate "Fist-Breaker." He hadn't used it against Machoke because many of that species had the Guts ability—which actually made them stronger when burned. But dicham? dicham relied on the Pure Power ability. Cutting that power in half was the only way Growlithe could survive a direct hit.

"Ti to press the advantage! Growlithe, Fla Wheel!"

"Woof! (Watch roll!)" 🐾

Growlithe tucked his head in, curling into a tight ball of orange-and-yellow fluff. He looked like a oversized, angry tennis ball. Suddenly, his fur ignited, turning him into a spinning sphere of fire that tore across the dirt toward dicham.

Aaron's eyes burned with a renewed fire. "Even weakened, even struggling, the spirit of a fighter never dies! dicham, ignore the pain! High Jump Kick!"

dicham leaped into the air, its body wreathed in Fighting energy despite the Burn sparks. It descended like a falling star, its knee aiming for the center of the fireball.

Clang!

The sound was tallic, the result of dicham's hardened body hitting the montum of the spinning pup. They separated, both skidding back. dicham's leg was scorched black, the Burn worsening with the exertion. Growlithe uncurled, his fur a bit frazzled on one side, but his Intimidate ability was still working its magic, wearing down dicham's resolve.

"Finish it! Fire Spin!" Julian commanded.

Growlithe unleashed a vortex of flas that trapped dicham in a searing cylinder of heat.

"dicham, find the exit! Use Detect!" Aaron shouted.

Inside the pillar of fire, dicham's eyes glowed blue. It analyzed the swirling flas, looking for a gap. It found a weak point and struck it with an Ice Punch, creating a montary hole in the vortex. dicham leaped through the gap, gasping for air.

"Gotcha! Fla Wheel, one more ti!"

dicham hadn't even touched the ground when the flaming fireball of Growlithe slamd into its chest. BOOM! The impact sent dicham flying across the arena, crashing into the stone-reinforced wall with enough force to leave a crater.

"dicham is unable to battle! The winner is Growlithe!" He Zhi's flag went up.

The stands erupted. The apprentices were whispering frantically. A rookie Growlithe had just taken down Aaron's dicham without losing its footing.

Aaron stood silent for a mont, then he began to laugh. A deep, belly-shaking laugh.

"Haha! Interesting! Very interesting, young Julian!" Aaron's eyes turned sharp, and suddenly, he did sothing unexpected. He grabbed his training gi and ripped it off, tossing it to the sidelines to reveal a physique that was purely made of lean, hard muscle. He looked like he'd been carved out of the very mountains of Veilstone.

"You've defeated two of my partners without losing a single one of yours," Aaron said, his voice dropping an octave. "You've forced to get serious. I didn't want to use this fellow today—I thought it would be too much for a fifth-badge challenge—but it would be an insult to your skill to hold back any longer."

He reached for the black-and-gold Luxury Ball at the back of his belt.

"Behold the true soul of the mountain! Co forth, Lucario!"

The light that erged wasn't white; it was a shimring, electric blue.

As the light faded, a bipedal, jackal-like Pokémon stood in the center of the ring. Its blue and black fur was immaculate, and the spikes on its paws and chest glead like polished silver. It didn't strike a pose. It simply stood there, its four black sensory bundles drifting behind its head as if caught in an invisible wind.

The mont it appeared, Julian felt a physical weight press down on his chest. It was a sensation he had only felt once before, in the presence of the highest-ranking Elite Four mbers.

This Lucario wasn't just an "Official Class" or even a standard "Elite Class." The energy it radiated—the Aura—was so dense that Julian's own latent, untrained Aura began to hum in sympathetic vibration. It was a feeling of raw, focused power that could see through walls and read the very fabric of a person's soul.

Lucario opened its eyes. They weren't just red; they were glowing with the intensity of a dying star. It looked at Julian, and for a split second, Julian felt like his entire life story was being read in a single glance.
