Kyra’s POV
I didn’t intend to hurt him, but I needed to shove the truth in his face so he’d realize what went wrong, so he’d understand how deeply he’d broken our mate bond.
"Are you okay, Luna Kyra?" Luke, my most trusted pack warrior and driver, asked without taking his eyes off the road.
I turned to him, exhaustion weighing on . "Do you think I can forget an Alpha who was supposed to be my mate for the rest of my life?"
"You will, if you choose to," he said, his voice steady. Luke had been loyal to my father’s pack for years. When I married Nathan, he was chosen to be my warrior. During the three years, he was the one who knew best what was really going on between Nathan and . And for , he was also a reliable friend.
When we reached the condo unit, he opened the door for . I went straight to the kitchen for water, and when I was about to go to my room, I saw Luke talking to soone behind the half-closed door.
"I’ll keep her safe, Alpha," Luke murmured, dipping his head in respect.
My breath hitched when I saw the familiar hand resting on Luke’s shoulder—two rings glinting on the ring finger.
“Why is he still wearing them?” Sylvia, my wolf, snarled in my mind. "He rejected us. He doesn’t deserve to keep that symbol."
I turned away before Luke could notice . "Alpha Nathan brought food, Luna Kyra," he said carefully.
"Later," I snapped, locking myself in my room. I collapsed onto the bed, pressing my palms into my eyes.
Why? We were done. The pack laws were clear—once a mate bond was severed, the rings ant nothing. He’d made his choice the mont he asked for the rejection. He chose Sophia, his so-called fated mate, over —his chosen Luna, the one who stood by him when Sophia abandoned him.
I went to the bedside table and opened the cabinet, staring at the legal docunts from the Elder Council—proof that I was no longer tied to Nathan and no longer the Luna of the Nightfall Pack. My passport lay beside them. Once I had the chance, I’d run—far from this territory, far from the mories.
"Coward," Sylvia hissed, but even she couldn’t deny the truth. Nathan wouldn’t stop.
He was an Alpha; he could even make Sophia his mistress while I was still his mate. He could be possessive even when he had no right to be.
But this ti, I had to be stronger—for my pup.
My resignation letter was ready. All I needed was the right mont to disappear.
After three years of sharing his bed, his pack, his life... I couldn’t go back to being his best friend, to watch how sweet he would be with Sophia.
I had to leave him so I could focus on my pup.
I stripped off my dress, letting it fall at my feet as I faced the mirror. My fingers had just hooked into my underwear when—
THUD.
Sothing slamd against the glass balcony door. I scread, scrambling back as a drone hovered outside, its cara lens glinting.
"LUKE!" I grabbed the comforter, covering myself as he burst in.
"Rogues," he snarled, lunging for the balcony. But the drone zipped away before he could reach it.
He cursed and locked the glass door. He walked towards and helped up. My hands trembled with combined fear and anger.
"Damn it!" His jaw was tight. "Let’s go sowhere safe."
"W-Where?"
"Alpha Nathan’s house."
I gasped and imdiately shook my head. "No, Luke."
He paused. "Or maybe we can go back to the Raven Shadow Pack. Alpha Kieran will do everything to protect his pack mbers."
My face went pale. Kieran was definitely the last man I wanted to see, even on doomsday.
I pressed my lips together as I couldn’t find a word to say.
"I’d rather you be angry with than let you sleep where rogues could reach you," he said firmly.
I clenched my teeth but nodded. If rogues were watching , this wasn’t just a threat—it was a hunt.
"I want to see Nathan."
Luke drove to Nathan’s house, guarded by warriors. Luke accompanied to the entrance of the house. He rang the bell and, in less than two minutes, soone opened the door. I was expecting Nathan, but it wasn’t him.
Sophia, wearing Nathan’s t-shirt, opened the door, and behind her was Nathan fixing his belt, his hair mussed.
Ice flooded my veins. My heart sank and my insides felt empty.
Sylvia howled with nothing but burning rage.
"K-Kyra..." Nathan saw , but I quickly turned my back on him and walked away.
"Kyra, wait—"
"Nathan, are you choosing her over ?"
I stopped and slowly looked back. I stared at the man standing a few ters between and Sophia. He kept looking back and forth between us with pain and confusion in his eyes.
"Sophia, please..." he pleaded.
"No, Nathan. If you take another step, you’re not having your chance with ," Sophia said with confidence.
Nathan shook his head and then looked at . His eyes were begging to stay. Of course, he would always make do what he wanted, just so everything would turn out the way he wished.
"Let’s go, Luke," I ordered as I turned back to the car.
I heard Nathan calling , but he didn’t take another step. He was so afraid to lose Sophia that he chose to lose .
Of course! I knew who he would choose; Sophia always won.
Luke thought I’d be safe here, but he was wrong. Among all the places in this world, this was where I was in the most danger.
As soon as the car started moving, tears rolled down my cheeks. I started crying in silence until I couldn’t take it anymore. I burst into tears and poured all my heart into painful cries. Luke drove beside in silence, completely ignoring my loud sobs.
My shoulders shook as I covered my face with my palm. Sylvia whimpered in my mind.
I thought I wouldn’t cry again. I thought I had already accepted the fact that he would never choose , but I was wrong.
It’s so damn painful to watch him choose her over .
I was so stupid for looking back and hoping he would follow . I was so stupid and helpless. I never learned. I should learn!
