Matt’s POV

"Matt, you’re being an idiot if you trust her. She’s just playing gas with you."

I looked at my twin brother. "But what if she’s right? What if Dad really had sothing to do with Eva Foster dying?"

Mason laughed and got ready for his turn. He threw the dart and hit the center perfectly, just like we were all taught to do.

"Co on, Matt. Dad would never do sothing like that. Uncle Wes, maybe. But not Dad."

Right. I couldn’t believe it either, but I had heard it from his own mouth. The confession haunted like a feral howl in the night.

I felt my throat tighten. I wanted to tell Mason what I found out, but I didn’t want to hurt him either. We had always looked up to Dad when we were kids. He was the nicest person we knew, and we never thought he could do anything wrong. Maybe we just couldn’t see it because we loved him so much.

Mason handed a dart and grinned. "Don’t let that girl ss with your head, Matt. She’s taking everything from us. Maybe she’s just pretending to be innocent. And what about Nathan Anderson? I heard they’re close friends and that Kyra took him from his fated mate."

I felt angry. We heard all the stories people spread about her. Kyra’s problems made everyone speak badly about our family.

I threw the dart and watched it miss the center by a lot. Mason laughed and patted my shoulder.

"See? That girl will only distract you."

No. Kyra couldn’t distract . The woman who distracted was Emily, Kyra’s friend. I wasn’t sure if she was really trying to betray Kyra. Whenever I saw them together, I felt like Emily was just trying to lure in for information.

I’m not stupid. I graduated with Latin honors, and it’s not that I’m bragging, but I know how to analyze people’s emotions. My wolf was particularly sensitive to deception. However, I still found it hard to understand Emily, because that woman seed like the living dead. She didn’t show emotions. Her eyes were always... empty but full of hatred.

Unable to take it anymore, I grabbed my phone and dialed Emily’s number.

We had a one-night stand, and she hadn’t given a damn about it. It’s not like I’m being emotional or sentintal over that. I had flings with won before, but Emily was different. Maybe it was her eyes. Maybe I wanted to see how those eyes could smile and show tenderness instead of hatred. I was curious about how those eyes would look if they were full of life, not dull and empty.

"Damn it!" I hissed when the first call ended without her answering. Annoyed, I tried again... and again... and again until I finally heard her irritated voice.

"If a person didn’t answer your call twice, don’t call for the third ti. That’s rude!"

I clenched my jaw. "You’re the one who’s rude. Are you avoiding ?"

She laughed sarcastically. "Yes."

"Why?!" I growled.

"Goddess! If it isn’t obvious, I’m avoiding you because I don’t like you."

"You don’t like ? Then why the hell did you sleep with ?"

"I sleep with every hot man who shows interest, Matt. Don’t feel special."

I balled my fists. "No, Emily. Not after you’ve tasted . I’ll make sure you can no longer kiss another man. I will make sure of that!"

I felt a rage I couldn’t explain. Our conversation continued, and I felt like she was purposely making angry. With her, I felt like I was losing control of my wolf.

I went back to Mason after Emily dropped the call. He was now sitting at the bar, drinking whiskey.

"You seem pretty angry. Woman trouble? Who is she?" Mason asked without lifting his head to look at .

I gritted my teeth and poured whiskey into an empty glass. I had no intention of answering him.

Mason chuckled. "I hope it’s not a serious case. Won will only ruin you, especially if they’re not your true mate."

I shook my head and pressed my lips together. I understood him, but I didn’t want my experiences or any circumstances to ruin .

"Mason..."

"If you want any advice about won, I won’t talk to you, brother."

I hissed. "I just wanna know if you’re interested in managing the family business once Dad wins against Kyra."

Mason looked at and smirked. "Brother, I have no idea about managing a business. Between the two of us, you’re the prodigy. So if there’s soone who deserves the position aside from Dad, it’s you."

Shaking my head, I chuckled. "I’m not into business, Mason."

He smirked. "I don’t understand why you studied psychology when you’re so good at the pack’s business affairs."

I just grinned and downed my drink. I wanted to tell Mason everything, but I couldn’t bring myself to even ntion a thing about it. Maybe soon, and I hoped he’d understand.
