Kyra’s POV

I held Nathan’s hand tightly as we waited outside the operating room. His parents were with us—Alpha Richard and Luna Marlene, both looking deeply concerned. Phoebe was crying hard in her father’s arms while Emily tried to comfort Luna Marlene.

I couldn’t move. When we first arrived, I’d hoped it wasn’t serious, but the dics quickly shattered that illusion. The wound on Snow’s head was deep, the corner of the pool having left a vicious gash.

We’d reached the hospital less than an hour ago, and she was imdiately rushed into surgery. I wanted to scream, to cry, to bla soone, but I knew I was partly at fault too. I should’ve woken up earlier to check on her.

The operating room doors swung open, and the doctor erged, pulling down his surgical mask. My heart skipped painfully as he approached. I couldn’t speak, my throat tight with fear.

Nathan stepped forward. "Doctor, how’s our daughter?"

"She’s lost too much blood," the doctor explained gravely. "She needs an imdiate blood transfusion. The problem is, we’re out of stock of her blood type. It’s quite rare."

My lips trembled. Rare blood type. I knew what that ant. My blood type wasn’t rare at all, which could only an one thing. Nathan would need to be the donor.

The truth I’d hidden for so long would finally co to light.

"For a transfusion," the doctor continued, "we’ll need a direct family mber with compatible blood."

The doctor had barely walked away when Nathan turned to , conflict clear on his face but seeming to have made up his mind. "Kyra, maybe we should call Kieran too. Since he’s Snow’s father, he’ll certainly be able to donate if needed."

I froze, staring blankly at Nathan.

"Kyra," Nathan continued, his voice urgent, "I know you don’t want anything to do with Kieran. But this is about Snow’s life. Give his number and I’ll contact him myself. I’ll beg him if I have to."

Emily sighed heavily, about to intervene, when Phoebe rushed forward. "If it’s not just parents, what about aunts? Can I donate?"

Nathan glanced at his sister. "Phoebe, don’t be silly. You can’t give Snow blood. This is serious."

Alpha Richard and Luna Marlene looked at us with a mixture of concern and sympathy, their eyes moving between Nathan and expectantly.

I took a deep breath. The mont had co.

"We don’t need Kieran or Phoebe," I said firmly. "Nathan should donate."

Nathan turned to face fully. "Kyra, the doctor said... direct... family..." His voice trailed off as realization began to dawn. He looked around the waiting room, noticing how everyone averted their gaze.

The silence was deafening.

Nathan stared at my face. Shock, confusion, pain, and disappointnt mixed in his eyes. I couldn’t look at him directly. I was terrified.

"Ky... Kyra..." his voice broke. "Say... sothing."

I looked down. The nurse arrived then, asking Nathan to follow her for the blood donation procedure. He left after staring at for what felt like an eternity, his fists clenched tightly at his sides, radiating anger with every step.

I knew it was my fault. I’d guarded my heart too fiercely, disregarding the truth that he needed to hear from my own lips, not from circumstances like this.

If not for Emily, who walked over and wrapped in her arms, I might have collapsed to the floor.

"Kyra..."

I wiped away a tear that had escaped and straightened my spine. I needed to be strong for Snow.

My phone beeped with a ssage from an unknown but sohow familiar number: "How is she?"

My forehead creased. How did he know? Was Kieran still watching us?

I gritted my teeth and shoved my phone back into my bag.

"She’ll be okay," Emily whispered. "Don’t think of anything else and focus on your daughter. She needs you now more than ever."

The blood transfusion went well. The doctor transferred Snow to the Intensive Care Unit, telling us she’d be moved to a private room once she regained consciousness. I still hadn’t spoken with Nathan. He wouldn’t even look my way, the pain of betrayal evident in every tense line of his body.

"Kyra, you should eat more." Luna Marlene sat beside , watching with concern as I picked at my food.

I smiled bitterly. "I’m full, Luna Marlene."

Her kind eyes studied as she shook her head. "Don’t punish yourself, please. We understand why you hid the truth. We hurt you. You were just trying to protect yourself and Snow."

I looked away, my gaze inadvertently finding Nathan. He was inside the ICU, standing motionless beside our daughter’s bed.

Tears welled in my eyes. I understood his anger just as he had once understood mine. The difference was, his kindness made his anger all the more devastating. Kind people don’t explode—they implode, pulling away so quietly you barely notice until they’re gone.

Luna Marlene rubbed my back and rested her head on my shoulder, offering silent comfort. "Ti heals all wounds," she murmured. "Let him think for a while. He loves you, Kyra. He will eventually understand your reasons."

I wasn’t so sure.

The loud ringing of my phone jolted awake. I’d fallen asleep on the bench outside the ICU.

Rubbing my eyes, I answered without checking the caller ID. "Hello?"

"Where the hell are you, Kyra?" My uncle Connor’s voice bood through the speaker. "You’re a leader of a company! How could you neglect your job?"

I gritted my teeth. "My daughter is in the ICU and you want to attend a fucking eting?"

"Well, that is your job, Kyra! Can’t you leave soone to look after your daughter? Why compromise your position just for—"

"For what?" I snapped. "Don’t you dare talk about my daughter like that! Let remind you, Uncle Connor, you no longer have the power to order anyone around—especially . I am the CEO of that company, and I will do whatever I want, even if that ans neglecting business for my daughter. I would sacrifice anything for her."

"So, you’re going to let this company fall? You stole the company from just to ruin it?"

I laughed without humor. "Worry about yourself, not about the position I’m neglecting. Perhaps you should relocate the skeletons in your closet because they’re no longer safe there. I’ve found them, and I will pursue justice until my dying breath."

"You’re a bitch, Kyra! I knew you only wanted to ruin our family. I should’ve buried you alive when I had the chance."

"I’ll bring you down with , Connor. But before that, I will make you kneel in front of my mother’s grave and beg for forgiveness. You and your wife won’t escape your sins."

I hung up, trembling with rage. Just then, my phone beeped again with another ssage from the sa unknown number: "I’ve been keeping tabs. Please tell if there’s anything Snow needs. I can help without being seen."

This ti, I knew for certain it was Kieran. After everything, he was still watching from the shadows, concerned but keeping his distance. It was the first ti since our confrontation that he hadn’t tried to control or manipulate .

I typed back simply, "She’s in ICU. Blood transfusion successful. Nathan knows."

His reply ca quickly, "I understand. I’m here if needed, but I won’t interfere. Take care of yourself, Kyra. Both of you."

I stared at the ssage for a long mont before putting my phone away.
