Kyra’s POV
I jolted as the glass slipped from my fingers and shattered on the kitchen floor. A strange feeling washed over , making my heart race.
"Kyra!" Nathan rushed into the kitchen. His beta was behind him with docunts that needed signatures.
"Don’t move," he said, "I’ll clean it up."
I stood frozen, unable to shake the bad feeling in my chest. Sylvia stirred in my mind. "Sothing’s wrong. I can feel it, "she whispered.
"Nathan..." My voice shook.
He rushed to . He lifted away from the glass and carried to the living room couch. His hands moved over , checking for injuries.
"Are you hurt? Where?" His eyes were full of concern.
I gripped his shoulders. "Nathan, please call your parents. I need to know they’re safe."
He looked at my face for a mont, then nodded. He pulled out his phone to call his mother. The call made feel better about his parents, but then my phone rang.
It was the hospital. They told Emily had been in an accident. I was her ergency contact.
Minutes later, I found myself pacing outside the ergency room.
The doctors were working on both Emily and Mason. Witnesses said Mason had pulled Emily from the car wreck despite bleeding badly from his head. Then he passed out. So reports said they were fighting in the car. Others said another car had hit them.
I didn’t care about the details anymore. I just wanted them to be safe.
"KYRA!" Diane Foster’s voice cut through the hospital corridor. She tried to slap , but Nathan stepped between us fast.
"STAND DOWN!" Nathan’s Alpha command hit Diane.
She stumbled backward, her hand dropping to her side as the Alpha power made her body obey against her will.
Diane’s eyes went wide with shock and fear. She tried to fight the command but couldn’t move forward.
Nathan’s eyes flashed with Alpha authority. "You will not touch my mate again."
Diane laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her face. "Look what you’ve done to my son!"
"This wasn’t Kyra’s fault. It was an accident!" Nathan said.
Diane struggled against the Alpha command, her voice shaking. "I don’t care! None of this would have happened if your gold digging mate hadn’t shown up and stolen everything we have! My family is falling apart. My son injured, and my older son is missing! This is all your fault, Kyra!"
Connor Foster arrived, his face twisted with rage. He tried to get to , but Nathan blocked his path.
"This is your fault, Kyra!" Connor pointed at .
Sylvia growled in my mind, urging to stand my ground. I couldn’t understand why they blad when I had nothing to do with the accident. If their family was breaking apart, they only had themselves to bla.
"You turned my sons against because of yo..."
"It’s because of your own cruelty!" I interrupted, fury rising in my chest. I didn’t care who was watching or how angry they might get.
Connor’s neck turned red. "What did you say? Say it again, you bitch!"
"STOP BLAMING MY WIFE!" Nathan shouted, shoving Connor backward. Connor’s eyes flashed with hatred before he punched Nathan in the jaw.
"Nathan!" I scread as my mate hit Connor back hard in the face.
The situation turned into a full fight. Diane and I shouted for them to stop while hospital security rushed over.
"GET THEM OUT OF HERE!" Connor yelled at the security guards, but Nathan gave them stare.
"Sir, please co with us," one guard said nervously.
Connor laughed mockingly. "Didn’t you hear what I said?"
"I’m sorry, sir. Alpha Nathan is a major shareholder of this hospital."
I lifted my chin slightly at this news. Connor got angrier as he pointed toward the ergency room doors. "My son is fighting for his life in there, and you want to leave?"
Nathan pulled behind him, his jaw clenched as he stared down Connor.
"Sir, please co with us," the guard tried again.
"I’m not going anywhere! Do you want to sue this entire hospital?" Connor threatened.
"Kyra, you bitch!" Diane tried to lunge at again, but a commanding voice stopped everyone.
"MOM, STOP IT!"
We all turned to see Matt limping toward us. His movents were slow and careful because of his wound.
Diane looked shocked, while Connor froze in place.
Matt positioned himself beside Nathan, helping to protect from his parents.
"Did you co here just to create chaos, or are you actually here for Mason?" he asked them coldly.
I stared at Matt’s back, wondering why he’d left his bed. He should be resting, not fighting his parents in his condition.
"Matt, my baby! What happened to you? Tell Mommy..." Diane reached for him.
"Go ho, Mom, Dad. I’ll take care of my brother," Matt said firmly.
"You don’t speak to your parents this way!" Connor spat.
Matt shook his head. "You’re only making this worse. Leave before I forget you’re my father and remove you myself."
"You ungrateful bastard!"
"Son! Don’t speak like that to your father! Respect him," Diane begged.
Matt laughed without humor. "I lost respect for him the mont I discovered his true colors."
"MATT!" Diane’s eyes went wide with horror. "You weren’t like this before you t Kyra..."
"Please, Mom! Stop blaming others. Kyra has done nothing wrong."
"She did! She ruined everything!"
I gritted my teeth as Diane tried to grab my hair, but Nathan pulled away, wrapping his arms around . I placed a hand over my stomach, worried about my baby’s safety.
"Stay calm for the pup, "Sylvia advised. "Your stress affects the little one."
The ergency room doors opened as a doctor ca out. "Family of the male patient?"
The argunt stopped as we all turned toward him.
"He’s my son. How is he, doctor?" Diane stepped forward.
"The operation was successful. However, we need to monitor him closely because he might slip into a coma. His head injury was severe. We need to hope for the best."
My eyes found Matt, who leaned against the wall for support. His face went pale.
I wanted to comfort him but didn’t know how. The doctor treating Emily still hadn’t co out, and I prayed for her safety. She deserved happiness after everything she’d been through. No more suffering, no more pain.
Looking at Connor’s ordinary, even weak appearance, I couldn’t help rembering my mother’s car accident. The mysterious shootings that had targeted Nathan and over and over. Sothing about Connor’s ek act struck as fake. He looked harmless on the outside, but I knew better. This man was dangerous, and he was pretending to be weak to fool everyone.
