When people were stirring up trouble at a ti like this, a show of force was the most direct and effective solution.
If the Immortal Sects had encountered this, they would’ve likely tripped over themselves to offer explanations and placate the crowd. The Demonic Sects, however, didn’t play that ga. For them, it was simple: obey or die.
Those who refused to follow orders would get a light beating and be thrown out. The more serious offenders, like the one just now, would be turned to ash with a single slap. And don’t even think about reasoning with Demon Cultivators. Trying to guilt-trip them was even more useless.
After witnessing that scene, the people present took a step back, their faces pale. They didn’t dare make another peep.
They were just ordinary people. To them, all Cultivators—whether they followed the Immortal or Demonic Paths—were lofty Immortals, beings that re mortals like them could never afford to provoke.
After the Demon Cultivator stationed in The Undercity departed, many in the crowd felt their legs give way, and they collapsed to the ground. A cold sweat broke out across their backs.
They felt humiliated.
Soone spoke up. "He just killed him, just like that! Is there no law? Don’t the Immortal Sects do anything about this?"
As soon as he finished, the person next to him wiped the sweat from his brow and whispered, "Exactly! Killing the innocent so wantonly... these Demon Cultivators are out of control. We can’t even say a few words now? And we weren’t wrong. They talk about so Heavenly Dao prophecy of an Outer Realms Race invasion. Wasn’t it supposed to happen in half a year? The ti has co, and nothing’s happened. Maybe they just got it wrong."
Despite his words, he only dared to whisper. The others simply lowered their heads, not daring to speak.
Just as they were whispering, a female cultivator holding a child turned and walked over from nearby.
She started cursing the mont she opened her mouth. "Damn it, all of you, shut your traps! You think no one can hear you muttering? ’Killing the innocent’... I’m sick of hearing that crap. That Demon Cultivator brother didn’t just kill anyone; he killed the ringleader. Shouldn’t you be looking at *his* faults?"
She grew angrier as she spoke.
’Just think,’ she fud internally, ’her Taoist Companion had spent every day of the last six months helping build The Undercity, without a mont to spare. He’d only held his own child twice since he was born. And who was it all for? It was so everyone could survive! Everyone in The Demonic Sects, from top to bottom, has been cooperating and working their asses off. And these people, not only are they not grateful, but they stand here being all suspicious.’
She snorted at the thought.
"Do you have any idea how many Spirit Stones and materials it takes to build one of these Undercities? We’re talking hundreds of millions, a mountain of resources! And that’s not even counting the cost of the arrays. Do you really think you’re worth all this trouble? And ’blood sacrifice’? You hear one little rumor and treat it as gospel. Don’t talk to us about ’the law.’ This is the Cultivation World, Demonic Sect territory. The laws of your Mortal Realm don’t apply here. Here, our Lady and The Exalted One have the final say! Not even Cultivators from the Immortal Sects can interfere. So, if you want to live, cooperate. If you think you’ve lived long enough, just say the word. We’ll be more than happy to throw you out, or maybe... send you on your way a little early."
The woman was a disciple of the Bloodfiend Den. Her Taoist Companion had been a Loose Cultivator before being accepted into the Bloodfiend Den last year.
She herself was a Late-stage Foundation Establishnt cultivator, but her child was still too young to be without its mother. Because of this, The Demonic Sects classified her with the elderly, weak, and other won and children, and had her moved into The Undercity for protection.
Just then, a voice echoed from the dim expanse above The Undercity.
"Hello, hello, can you hear ?"
"Attention all residents of The Undercities throughout the Cultivation World. A mont ago, there was a disturbance in the sky of the outside world. We believe the prophecy is coming to pass. However, please do not panic. Do not shout, do not cause a commotion, and please cooperate with our staff. Your Undercity is protected by a top-tier Defense Array. The array is about to be activated. If you experience a mont of dizziness, this is a normal side effect."
The voice seed to co from the sky above, echoing from all directions so that every resident in The Undercity could hear. After the announcent, a large screen materialized in the air. On it, the clear image of a female cultivator appeared. Her robes identified her as a disciple of the Bloodfiend Den.
The voice from monts ago had been hers.
「The next mont.」
The ground trembled slightly.
At the sa ti, the lines of an array began to glow on the ground throughout The Undercity. Then, pillars of light erupted in various locations, carrying with them powerful fluctuations of runes.
The arrays linked together, covering the entire Undercity and forming a massive barrier that enveloped them all.
It all happened so fast. Those who had just been doubting the prophecy were now struck dumb, unable to speak.
With the array activated, it ant the danger was truly here.
"It’s real?"
"The prophecy was actually true."
"The Outer Realms Race is really coming? This is a disaster for the Cultivation World."
The Undercity erupted into a clamor.
"The disaster of the Cultivation World is really here... I wonder what the Outer Realms Race is like."
At that mont, the woman holding the child looked at the panicked crowd. "Now you see, don’t you? Our Lady is never wrong."
As she spoke, she looked down at the child in her arms, her eyes filled with deep worry.
"I just hope everything goes smoothly."
’May The Exalted One and our Lady protect us.’ People like her didn’t pray to gods or Buddhas; they prayed to The Exalted One and their Lady.
At that mont, the voice from the sky above The Undercity continued.
"Here we go, everyone! Residents of The Undercity, look up! A rift seems to have appeared in the sky outside. To keep everyone updated on the situation, I’ll be starting a live broadcast. Let’s all watch the latest developnts together."
Upon hearing this, everyone in The Undercity turned their gaze to the screen above. The view showed a scene high in the sky: lightning flashed and thunder rolled amidst a sky saturated with red light. Jagged bolts of electricity tore across the heavens.
The void itself looked as if it were being torn open. The rift wasn’t large yet, but at that mont, everyone’s heart was in their throat.
They held their breath.
「Outside The Undercity.」
The Cultivators of both the Immortal and Demonic Paths of the Cultivation World were already waiting.
One by one, they looked up at the sky, weapons in hand, poised to strike.
They were just waiting. If the Outer Realms Race dared to show up, they would slaughter them all.
On the side of The Demonic Sects, led by Javier Sinclair and Celeste Grant, everyone was waiting.
Soone pointed to the sky and yelled.
"Co on, if you’ve got the guts! Stop dragging your feet! My blade is thirsty for blood!"
Soone next to him nodded. "Exactly! We don’t care what you are. We’ll kill you one by one, or two by two!"
The sky grew dark. The rift in the heavens slowly widened and elongated, tearing further open.
The sight was far more terrifying than what was being shown inside The Undercity.
With a deafening BOOM, bolts of lightning struck one after another, ripping across the sky. A fierce wind howled in their ears. The sky was literally tearing apart!
