Silence once again, but this ti, it was different. Benjamin’s words didn’t just echo in Sophia’s ears, they reached deep into her soul. It wasn’t only what he said, but how he said it, what he had seen, and the fact that he did nothing about it.
That thought alone made sothing inside Sophia... her hands slowly curled into fists, trembling as Benjamin spoke about those files, the ones filled with cases of rape and abuse. Files that were never shown to the public, that were never properly investigated. The more she thought about it, the more her anger grew, because she knew exactly what that felt like.
She had lived through it too.
Sophia is a beautiful woman, more than beautiful. She has the kind of beauty that draws every eye in the room, a body and face that people admire, desire... they want her, and many n have tried to get close to her. But whenever soone touched her in any way, shape, or form, the result was always the sa... their bodies were later found dismbered.
Not just that but despite the hatred toward Bella... Sophia still helped her. She joined her mission, standing beside her to kill and silence every human trafficker, every man who sold won and children like they were nothing.
But now, hearing it from Benjamin, that children and won were raped and killed by minsiters, and that nothing had been done to protect them, hit her harder than she ever expected. She could almost hear their cries, their desperate screams for help that never ca. She could see their fear, their pain, their final monts. And the thought that those won and children might never find peace, that their resting places might never be found... it tore at her heart.
anwhile, the ones who did those things still have their positions, and maybe they’re still doing it without a shred of guilt.
Though she knew the truth, she just heard it from Benjamin. Agents are not superheroes, they are humans, and now, hearing Benjamin say how many agents had taken their own lives, how many couldn’t bear the weight of what they’d seen or failed to stop, it struck her deeply.
Even if they were her enemies and maybe still are, they were still people trying to do what was right, chasing justice... but when justice never cos, and the guilt becos unbearable... that’s when they fall pushed over the edge by the sa helplessness she now felt in her chest.
"Is this how agents do it?" she asked. "Are you trying to get to say sothing, to understand them, to understand you? Are you trying to manipulate my narrative on the NSBI? Should I feel sorry?"
Benjamin felt that the questions weren’t really questions, it was her frustration and anger coming out uncontrollably, and he knew that her anger was real because he felt the sa about it.
"Not at all." He answered. "I’m just answering your questions."
"Really, then answer this question." She said as she raised her voice, leaning forward, just staring straight into Benjamin’s eyes. "You said, ’Weakness is smiling while the weight crushes you from the inside’... in that case, Jas is weak?"
Benjamin didn’t answer imdiately. No, he thought about it, but to be true, he knew exactly the answer to the question... because he had asked it himself many tis. He asked it when he first t him, even when he first saw him, when he first learned about him... even when the worst things happened to him.
He had asked it many tis... and answered it many tis..
"No." he said slowly. "Jas is not weak. He’s strong in a way most people can’t understand, in a way that is actually the worst a human can go through."
"Worst?" She asked back, still eyeing him.
"Yeah, Sophia. The weight doesn’t crush him, it shapes him. It rips him to pieces, and then those pieces... they connect back together to form sothing that is dark. But strength like that... it cos at a cost. It’s lonely, painful, and it changes you."
The sa thing Hector had told him, the sa thing everyone said about Jas, and the sa thing he had thought himself... everybody said the sa.
"So, if he’s strong..." Her eyes wavered a bit. "...why does it feel like he’s broken inside?" There was worry in her eyes, worry for soone she cared for deeply.
"Because strength and suffering aren’t opposites." Benjamin replied. "Sotis, the strongest people are the ones bearing the heaviest burdens. Smiling through it doesn’t an they aren’t hurting, it ans they’ve chosen to keep going, no matter the weight."
She stared at him, a mixture of confusion and awe flickering across her face. "And that... makes him human?"
Benjamin leaned back slightly. "Human, yes, but not in the way most people think. Jas... he doesn’t just endure. He adapts. He becos sothing else entirely. Sothing that can survive things most would crumble under. And the terrifying part? He never lets anyone see the cost until it’s too late to help or stop him."
"But... shouldn’t soone like that have soone to... to share it with?" she asked, totally detouring from her original question and feelings... no, she was only caring about Jas.
And Benjamin understood it. To be true, in Sophia’s files it is written in bold red that she is in love with Jas or at least has so type of feeling toward him.
"The truth is, Sophia... he probably will be alone. He will probably lose himself entirely... maybe he already did. He is not the Jas you once knew, and will never be the sa..."
Sophia looked down, her hands clenching together. "Then–"
The door suddenly opened. "I’m sorry, I got the dossier." Sophia’s guard, who went back for the docunts, finally arrived with them... though it was kind of a long ti.
"Oh, then can we actually start it?" Benjamin once again suddenly changed once again.
That excited smile on his face ca back, while on the other hand Sophia still had so thought... maybe the sentence she could say was important to her... but to be honest... there was a more important thing to do.
To kill, to blast shit up... yeah, that was the important thing and now it would start.
