"I see you truly live up to your na, Sophia." Benjamin said as he opened the dossier that her guard gave to him and there were just so many nas.
It was made very precisely, just page after page filled with all the nas of those who posed danger, but what Benjamin noticed was that it wasn’t just people affiliated with the cartel.
No, it was a fucking cleansing list, with everybody that posed danger to the Bellinis and to Sophia’s family.
Yeah, she made the list, not giving a single fuck about the governnt.
"How many nas?" He asked as he looked up at her.
"In all, two hundred and one." Sophia answered and shit it was truly too many nas.
If the NSBI or the whole governnt were to do it professionally, like how they’re supposed to, through all the official statents, the bills, and rules, then arresting that many people would take half a year, maybe even more than that. Because they would need to investigate them even further to be sure they had solid intel and proper evidence to prosecute them fully and legally.
Yeah... but they don’t do it officially.
There will be no investigation, no prosecution, no charges, nor a trial... nah, they’re just going to straight-up kill all of them.
"Is there any highlighted one in there?" He flipped the page. "Like those that pose higher danger?"
"Yeah, those are highlighted in red. In all, one hundred and seven people. The best part about it is that all of them live here in the capital, so we can act faster and more precisely." she said. "The addresses next to their nas are where they reside or should be so we don’t need to do much. Just raid those spots and pull the trigger."
"Hmm... interesting. Are they cartel-related?" Benjamin asked as he glanced back at her.
"Not all of them." Sophia answered. "About half of them are connected to the cartel. The rest are people who are already planning to take over Silas’s network. And then," she paused for a mont. "there are those with political connections."
The word ’political’ hit Benjamin’s ears... it was sothing that pressed on his pride.
"Sophia." He started his voice low and for so kind of reason it sounded threatening. "Political connections an nothing anymore when there is a monopoly, a monopoly of power, a monopoly of us. The people they’re tied to, those officials, ministers, senators , they’ll fall too when their ti cos."
Sophia kept her eyes on him. "They’re still dangerous, like right now."
Her words irritated him, not because she was wrong, but because deep down, a small part of him feared she was right. It wasn’t sothing he liked to admit, not even to himself. Sadly the entire political sphere had turned into a pile of bullshit.
Full of corruption so deep that even those in the highest offices could be controlled by people who didn’t even hold real positions of power.
Linda, for example. On paper, she is one of the most powerful people in the country, the Minister of Justice and also a mber of the National Defense Council. Her authority should have been unquestionable.
But everyone knows that the Minister of Trade, a man with deep connections and powerful friends, could overrule her. Not officially, of course nothing ever is official in politics, but unofficially, everyone obeys him because of who he knows and what he could do.
People with no sense of duty or honor sit in circles of influence, making deals with senators, generals, and even foreign ministers. So of them have no title, no office, yet they hold more power than entire departnts.
And even as he stood as the Director of one of the most powerful agencies in the nation, the political elite could still cause trouble. They could still twist situations, start rumors, create chaos... all while smiling for the caras and shaking hands on television.
But tonight, things are different.
Tonight, he and his people have control. The National Ergency gives them the freedom to act without waiting for approval, the freedom to clean up the ss in whatever way they want.
Tonight, they can hunt.
They can go after criminals, those who pose danger to Jas and their deal. But not only them, they can also go after the politicians, the ones hiding behind laws and words. They can accuse them, expose them, or even fabricate evidence if they have to. It doesn’t matter.
They have the power now, and no one can stop them.
And that was exactly why a smile slowly crept across Benjamin’s face.
It wasn’t a warm or kind smile, it was the smile of a man who can fuck shit up.
For once, the politicians, the manipulators, and all those self-righteous hypocrites would feel fear. The sa fear they had planted in others for years.
"The National Ergency gave us authority beyond anything they have. Those so-called political giants can shout all they want, but they have no army, no control over the agencies, no command over the streets." He smiled even more. "They’re powerless, while we’re the complete opposite. Jas has power over the city, while we have power over the entire country." He finished and slowly stood up, still holding eye contact with Sophia and outstretched his arms. "So, let’s begin Operation Hunt."
She felt goosebumps ripple across her body again, from that smile, from the way he said it, from the way he stood.
Yeah, there isn’t a single person in the shadows, whether politician or criminal, who can stop them. Nobody can even touch them in this state.
Operation Hunt... it really is a hunt for those who think they are players, who think they are sobody. No, connection ans nothing when the agency that has the greatest secrets, the greatest power, has finally stepped up.
"Yeah." She smiled too, faint, not joyful, but the kind of smile that knows a new era has truly begun. "Let’s begin the hunt."
