After the laugh together and the little story that Darvik shared with Jas, he stood up and left Jas behind and well Mike imdiately went and sat down.
"How was he?" He asked as he kind of overheard their interaction and moreover sensed that tense atmosphere around them.
"I underestimated everything." Jas answered him as he just leaned back and sighed big. "This whole country feels like another planet, and Darvik lives like an alien who is ruling it."
Well, his comparison wasn’t the best, but Mike understood it to so extent, because when he first saw Damien, he already knew shit was truly happening here, without even talking about Calo.
"But it is fascinating in my opinion. Like Darvik and possibly his friends or associates really built up a system, a governnt that is operating on drug money. They give benefits, but what’s more fascinating is the fact that everyone is just walking past each other."
"What do you an by that?" Jas asked back as he couldn’t really understand what Mike was saying.
"Like everybody in the drug business are competitive people living inside their own bubbles. Nobody wants associates or allies, because it can break and pull them down too... everyone is an enemy." He looked back at Jas. "But here, enemies walk past each other, sitting at the next tables, eating without a single word... that is fascinating to think about, just how much control he has over the worst of the worst.
Jas didn’t even think about it, like it didn’t go through his mind what Mike had just said.
Sohow he looked past at the fact that the cartel, mafia, arms dealers, and every other criminal were just living in peace in Maraci, and now, even thinking more about it, Darvik emphasized many tis that if sobody did sothing, they would kill not just them, but hunt everybody down.
But still, just thinking about it was, as Mike said, fascinating. Having these kinds of nas, people from the top ten lists... literally on a leash, dictating to them what they can do and what they can’t, was just impossible anywhere else, as everybody in the field has the biggest egos, and even a single word can an deep disrespect.
And Darvik, he’s just leashing them up, putting on the dog muzzle, and letting them live in peace...
Yeah, Darvik was like a trainer in that sense, but it also pushed one more thing, that once again Mike said.
If everybody behaves this well, it ans Darvik already showed what would happen if sobody doesn’t follow the rules.
Mike was right about it, brutal force was the only language that truly worked. Fear was the only thing that made everyone understand what would happen if they didn’t follow the rules of Maraci. Darvik didn’t just set boundaries he showed everyone exactly what he was capable of, and one by one, the so called kings of the underworld folded like lap dogs.
"He showed us too." Jas laughed as he realized it. "Sending his man to save Hector and Finn, that was it. That wasn’t just help, but a threat."
"I thought the sa. It was clearly more than just help." He leaned back, crossing his arms. "He showed us that he can find your highest-ranking n without effort. More than that, he showed he can mobilize his people fast."
"Feels like he has a whole ass surveillance network." Jas said and sothing hit Mike’s ears, which made him realize sothing else.
"Or he knew what would happen." He said as he eyed Jas. "I an, it’s impossible to just, out of nowhere, go and find Hector and Finn easily, when they were both at locations that had no connection to us, the hospital and the black market dealer."
Jas realized it too. "That’s true."
"I think Darvik’s n have been surveilling us since you seized the power back ho. I an, that is the only answer that explains how quickly they found Hector and Finn... they spied on them for who knows how long and even followed both of them. Maybe they tracked their phones or sothing."
As Mike finished it, that little silence between them just gave more and more confirmation that it happened, as both of them thought more about it.
First, it was impossible to just find both Finn and Hector, as Hector was in a hospital he never talked about to anyone, while Finn told maybe three people where he was going, which ant the only way Darvik’s n could find both of them was that they... tracked them down.
"It sounds like he knew what would happen..." Jas whispered, unable to fully grasp that Darvik knew everything.
"I think it all traces back to his connection with the other ’foreign investor." Mike continued. "He knows cartels, people like Calo and they could have told Darvik that Sinatra is trying to seize our power, that they’re planning to pay off the circle to backstab you. Since then, he’s had his eyes on us." Another good point from Mike, not just good but phenonal one.
"And he let it happen, to see if we survive, huh?" Jas whispered as it was the only thing that made sense.
"I think that was a selection process to see if you’re worth it or not."
Silence for a mont as that stress smile once again spread across Jas’s face. "This motherfucker... a genius."
The final piece of the puzzle, and all of it made sense. A fucking master plan, and Mike said it right.
Darvik had his eye on the Bellini family since Sinatra started fucking with them. He sent his n to monitor, surveil the higher ups and then he waited to see if Jas was worth actually doing sothing with, and when he saw that Jas took the whole market into a monopoly, the door was open. Not just that, but Darvik was lucky enough that Jas chose Maraci to send his family for safety, and he knew Jas would co to see them, and that was the right mont to strike business.
"Darvik Vinhomn... huh..."
