"It’s all done..." Linda’s tired voice ca as she looked down at her watch. "It only took eighteen hours."
They were up since then, since she vomited, since everything started, since she got slapped by Stephen, all while Benjamin and the joint corruption killed many... they were doing everything to get so story behind why all of these happened.
The little fuckers, the gang mbers, the small ti traffickers and street sellers, didn’t need any docuntation, to be honest. They already had warrants for their arrest, and a lot of them had been arrested more than once.... everything was stacked against them from the start. But on the other side for the ministers they had caught... and killed, it was different.
For them, they had to manufacture evidence, forge docunts, fill in the gaps, and make sure the whole story looked clean enough to everybody.
Not just that, they also had to file reports on what happened to so of the ministers’ families. How did they get caught in the crossfire? Why was there no body cam footage from the raid?
Every missing detail needed an explanation and well, they had ti to puzzle it together, what to write, what to create, make it too much and not too much. They were going crazy with it, and in the end, they did it.
They pulled out every single piece of material Thomas and the IF had on the ministers. Then, to make it look even better, they twisted the aning, the outco, and even the beginning of it all, careful not to put themselves in a bad position or drag any other minister into the crossfire. And with that, they were done.
But to be honest, none of that effort was really necessary, because on social dia, people had already made up their own truth, with hundreds of thousands of likes behind it. They were guessing why the ministers were hit, why they were raided, piecing together the whole concept and the story better than expected. So agents even monitored and profiled those theories, passing the most convincing ones to Linda and the others to help shape a more believable narrative.
In short, Linda and the others used social dia theories to shape the evidence, docuntation, and reports, ensuring that the public would accept the story more willingly, though there was of course real evidence. Millions stolen through governnt contracts, corruption, drug abuse, prostitution, the sale of sensitive governnt information, the covering up of criminal activity, the list was long. But the narrative had to be twisted carefully, making sure no other minister or governnt official on their side was dragged into it.
And they need to think about Jas and the others too.
It was obvious that people would find out about him and would eventually start raising questions... and not just about him, but about Damien and Dante Castillo as well. They would ask questions about both of them, mostly about Damien, since he was well known.
The only good thing about Jas was that, despite police attempts on his life, the attacks, the shootings, the deaths.... everything always got swept under the rug. In the public eye, Jas Bellini was just a powerful figure, but nobody knew who he really was.
"We thought of everything." Thomas said, sipping his coffee. "Evidence upon evidence, even things that should be impossible to dig up, photos, videos, transaction logs, phone records, bank accounts, offshore accounts... everything is in our hands. But we forgot soone." He looked at Linda, though she was barely awake, her eyes red, exhausted, staring like a zombie.
"I didn’t forget about him, but we need to focus on this matter and the future. And second, he will do nothing, I know it." She answered.
"How do you know?" Thomas asked back.
Jas has probably already befriended Darvik, so he wouldn’t act against a business partner and a friend. Jas is our shield against Darvik, while we are his shield... for everything."
"Bullshit. It’s all bullshit." Stephen spoke up, legs up on the desk, leaning back in the chair with a blanket over him. "I an, if one of us falls, we all fall. We fucked up thinking we’d be the ones on top, pulling the strings, but be honest... nobody’s pulling anything. We’re just floating over the fucking fire."
All of them knew it, but neither of them truly wanted to agree to it, mostly Linda herself. The thing is that neither Jas nor them had the upper hand; both of them were forces keeping each other alive.
The plan to blackmail, to corrupt, to rule over one another had failed long ago. Both of them had so much dirt on their hands that it would just blow the fuck up... everything. Yet, in so ways, Jas was still better off.
He’s just a gangster. If everything would go to shit, people would finally learn about him—the great gangster, the don, the cri lord who had corrupted the entire governnt. On the other side, Linda, the president, and everyone else would stand as examples of what corruption and greed can lead to.
Well... both of them would beco the worst examples if that balance between them shifted even slightly, but until then, one thing was clear.
With a deal with Jas, billions could flow in with the help of the governnt, while Jas could generate billions with governnt support... and together, they could really change the future of the country.
A win-win situation... but the slightest thing could throw off the balance.
"Well, eventually we’ll fuck up, but until then, I’m sleeping. Wake up when we have the exact number of how many we struck down." Stephen whispered as he tucked himself in, a pillow under his hand and a blanket over his body... and Linda and Thomas followed him soon after, leaning back in their chairs and drifting off as well, waiting until they got the final numbers.
Though there were so... small problems with those exact numbers.
"Uhm... I think it’s one body, not two." Benjamin said as he looked down at the ground.
"No, it’s two... maybe three. Look." An agent said, pointing toward the ground. "There are three hands here."
"Ohh, yeah I see now."
The problem was that they had used too much explosive, and so of it hit the targets directly and what remained was mangled human remains on the ground, impossible to tell whether it had been one person or several.
