Alice Turner spoke in an exceptionally heavy tone, and there was a trace of hostility in her voice. Fortunately, Isla Lane’s attention was entirely focused on her pregnancy, and Alice’s less-than-friendly attitude and tone were overlooked.
"Are you really not pregnant?" After hearing everything Alice Turner said, Isla Lane began to doubt the truth that she had firmly believed in, questioning the reality of the situation.
Upon hearing this, Alice Turner nodded with certainty. Even though she knew the person on the other end couldn’t see her, she still did it, "I’m really not pregnant; I just finished my period a few days ago."
To convince the person on the other end, her mother-in-law and not the mother who watched her grow up, she shared about her period.
"Then why did Benjamin tell that lie? He just called with such a convincing story," Isla Lane still had doubts, half-believing and half-questioning, and needed to confirm further before making a final judgent.
Upon hearing Isla Lane’s questioning, Alice Turner repeated, "You should ask him yourself; I’m not sure."
Why did she offend that man, causing him to deceive both sets of parents?
"Then I’ll let you go. I’ll hang up now." Isla Lane didn’t continue to press Alice Turner nor ntion pregnancy anymore; she hung up first.
This was exactly what Alice Turner had hoped for; she was worried about how to end the call with Isla Lane, unexpectedly, the other party hung up first.
Removing the phone from her ear, she thought she could finally catch her breath and relax, but before she could take a deep breath, the phone rang again.
When the phone rang, Alice Turner’s heart skipped a beat. She picked up the phone, and upon seeing the caller ID and note, she felt her whole world turn upside down.
The call was from Charlotte Shaw, and Alice Turner didn’t need to think much to realize it was about the sa thing as the previous calls: her pregnancy.
She hesitated for a mont but ultimately answered the call. This ti, she didn’t give the caller any chance to interrupt, "I’m not pregnant; your brother is lying to you."
Alice Turner spoke straightforwardly this ti, without any unnecessary words, stating what she needed to say imdiately.
"... Alice! What happened between you and Benjamin? Another argunt?" Charlotte Shaw didn’t expect this situation at all; she had indeed received a congratulatory call from Benjamin Shaw earlier.
Without questioning the truth, hearing about Alice Turner’s pregnancy made her as excited as Isla Lane was.
She imdiately called Alice Turner, but before she could say congratulations, a bucket of cold water was poured over her head.
Alice Turner wanted to shout at Charlotte Shaw on the other end, "Your brother is not a man at all!" But considering the consequences of shouting that, she decided to keep the words to herself.
"We argued, and it was fierce." So fierce that it made everyone involved act ridiculously, Alice Turner added in her heart.
"Did you really argue? Why did you argue?" Charlotte Shaw had asked casually, but didn’t expect it to be true. Hearing Alice Turner’s unpleasant tone, she assud the argunt must’ve been as fierce as Alice described.
