Though the light in the hallway wasn’t very bright, it didn’t affect Fabian Hols’s vision. Seeing his second son, Theodore Hols, suddenly appear before him, Fabian quickly wiped the look of anger off his face, replacing it with a calm expression.
"You..."
"Did you have a fight with Mom?"
Fabian had just said the word "you," and Theodore imdiately took over the conversation.
Hearing this, Fabian’s eyebrows furrowed suddenly, and he responded, "You’ve just co back from outside again, haven’t you? It’s very late already; go upstairs and sleep."
The words he spoke were completely on a different wavelength from what his son was asking.
"What exactly were you fighting about? I heard your argunt get quite heated." Theodore didn’t follow Fabian’s attempt to change the subject, instead stubbornly dragging it back.
Fabian and Alia Linton had just fought because of Ivy Shaw, who was Theodore’s biological mother. How could he possibly say that out loud? That would only make things more complicated.
"We just had a disagreent on a few things, don’t ask anymore. Hurry upstairs," he replied perfunctorily and urged his son upstairs once more, worried that the person inside the room would co out and argue with him, leaving him clueless about how to explain.
"Disagreent? What was the disagreent about?" Theodore was determined to get to the bottom of it, standing his ground with no intention of going upstairs.
"Kids shouldn’t ddle in adults’ affairs." Fabian wanted to bypass him, but Theodore reached out to block him. Fabian grew a bit anxious, glaring at his son, "What’s wrong with you? Go upstairs now!"
He brushed away the arm blocking his path and bypassed him to head towards the study.
"I’m already twenty-three years old; I’m not a kid anymore." Theodore shouted in retort at Fabian’s retreating back.
"You’ll always be a kid to ."
Fabian didn’t even turn his head as he replied, pushing the door open and entering the study. Bang! The sound of the door closing followed.
"Coming back so late again? Where on earth have you been this ti?"
Alia Linton’s questioning voice suddenly ca from behind. Theodore withdrew his gaze from the direction of the study and turned to look toward Alia.
At this mont, Alia was wearing a white silk nightgown, her hair draped over her shoulders, giving off an eerie feeling under the dim lights in the hallway.
"Mom! You look so scary right now, you scared the life out of ." Theodore raised his hand to pat his chest, pretending to be frightened.
After Fabian left the room, Alia sat on the bed growing more infuriated. She got out of bed and put on her slippers to chase after him. She didn’t see Fabian when she ca out, but unexpectedly ran into Theodore, who had just returned from outside.
Normally, hearing Theodore say sothing like that would be treated as a joke, but right now, Alia was furious, and the anger was due to his biological mother.
"Good riddance if I scared you to death, so you won’t be wandering around in front of ." Alia blurted out, speaking in a harsh tone. Her anger made her face look quite displeased.
Standing with his back to the light, it was hard to tell if Theodore was angry. He walked step by step toward Alia, "Mom! Don’t be mad, anger makes you age. Be careful, or Dad might leave you for another woman."
