As soon as he heard Fabian Hols was here, Michael Linton didn’t bother to go back and change his clothes. He bypassed Auntie Li standing at the door and hurried downstairs.
However, he was still a step late when he got downstairs. His father was already face-to-face with his brother-in-law.
Seeing the two of them, Michael Linton rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache approaching, and quickly walked over to the father-in-law and son-in-law duo.
"Dad! You..."
Before Michael Linton could finish, Callix Linton waved his hand to interrupt him. As he stopped him, the old man spoke to his son-in-law Fabian Hols: "What exactly is the matter with you? Why do you have to disturb our rest in the middle of the night?"
Callix Linton never had a good impression of this son-in-law, and recently, he had grown increasingly displeased with him; his words and tone were anything but polite.
"Dad! Please go back to rest. My brother-in-law is here for ." Michael Linton spoke up before Fabian Hols could, and after he spoke, he grabbed Fabian Hols by the sleeve, trying to lead him outside. His father still didn’t know about this, and he wanted to keep it from him for now.
Callix Linton was not soone who could be easily fooled. He reached out and grabbed Michael Linton’s arm, "Do you think I’m a fool? Or do you think I’m too old to manage you anymore?"
"Both of you, co inside with !"
The old man withdrew his hand and turned to walk into the living room first, not worried at all that they wouldn’t follow him.
Seeing Callix Linton enter the living room, Fabian Hols asked Michael Linton urgently in a low voice, "Is Easton not at ho?"
As he asked, he glanced toward the stairs but saw nothing. For a mont, he thought that woman was lying to him.
When Easton Hols ca ho at night, Auntie Li had already gone to bed. Earlier, when Fabian Hols knocked and said he was looking for Easton Hols, she peeked into the yard but didn’t see Easton Hols’s car. So she confidently replied that Easton Hols had gone out in the morning and hadn’t returned.
Only then did Fabian Hols ask Auntie Li to call Michael Linton, but who could have predicted that it would wake Callix Linton instead? The more anxious he was, the more things seed to go wrong, leaving him feeling chaotic inside.
Michael Linton responded with a question instead of an answer: "Are you looking for Easton?"
He noticed the other’s urgency and didn’t miss the agitation and unease in his eyes.
"Is he ho or not?"
At this mont, Fabian Hols just wanted to find Easton Hols as soon as possible, completely unconcerned with anything else.
anwhile, Callix Linton’s impatient voice ca from the living room, "What are you two muttering about outside? If you have sothing to say, co in and say it."
He hadn’t heard their murmuring; he just deduced from their delay outside that sothing was up. Now he was more convinced that the two outside definitely had matters to discuss.
"We’re coming right in."
Michael Linton replied to the old man and then spoke in a low voice to Fabian Hols, "When we go in, don’t say anything reckless. Dad’s been worrying about you all his life; let him enjoy his later years in peace."
He sighed at his brother-in-law and walked toward the living room.
Despite feeling annoyed by Michael Linton’s recent words, Fabian Hols quickly followed. Despite his irritation, he still had a certain amount of reverence for his father-in-law.
"Now then, tell ! What matters bring you to see Michael so late? Don’t even think about making up lies to fool ; I can tell the difference between truth and falsehood." Seeing his son and son-in-law enter one after the other, Callix Linton spoke before they even had a chance to sit down.
