Sophia called today and sothing felt really off. Her tone was unusual, and even though Alice couldn’t see her, she just knew sothing was not right with Sophia today.
"You’re right, but how can I explain this to you?" Sophia stamred, unable to find the words. Hearing this only strengthened Alice’s feeling that sothing was amiss, and this feeling grew stronger and stronger.
Alice leaned back in her chair, her brow slightly furrowed. "Mom! Just tell whatever you want to say, don’t hold back."
Even over the phone, she could sense her mother’s breathing had beco abnormal.
"...Well, the thing is, Easton’s real mom was my best friend," Sophia hesitated for a long ti, and finally forced out this sentence with difficulty.
As soon as she heard this, Alice jumped up from her chair. Luckily, she was in her own office, otherwise, she might have given her colleagues a fright. "What?! That kid’s real mom was your best friend?"
She could hardly believe her ears. This was too much of a coincidence. She thought such coincidences only happened in movies.
"Yes, as you guys would say now, we were BFFs." Sophia had cald down when faced with Alice’s astonishnt; she explained once more, so Alice could hear it clearly and not doubt her ears.
Alice quickly cald her surprised emotions and sorted things out in her head. "Mom! Did Easton’s parents know you early on?"
If that’s the case, she’s now found the reason why her sister-in-law’s mom doesn’t like her sister.
Sophia nodded truthfully, realizing she was on the phone, so she replied with a simple "Hmm."
The man was with her best friend, and her best friend was also her neighbor, so it wasn’t surprising she knew the man.
But the idea of her son-in-law’s mother—if that woman hadn’t co to make a fuss, Sophia might not have known her. At that ti, Sophia never imagined that woman would beco her daughter’s mother-in-law.
The mont she recognized that woman in her house, she could hardly believe her eyes. She couldn’t believe any of it was real.
"No wonder Easton’s mom never liked our Lily. So it was because of this." After confirming her suspicions, Alice remarked. Once she said it, she realized the inappropriateness of her words but didn’t know what to say to explain, so she chose to stay silent for a while.
Sophia fell into silence when she heard this, and after so ti she slowly spoke. "I never imagined it would be such a coincidence."
She never imagined it would be such a coincidence, but things had already turned out this way, and none of them could change the situation.
"Mom! What’s the point of your call? Did Easton do sothing to his brother? Are you calling to plead on that kid’s behalf?" Hearing this, Alice finally realized the purpose of her mom’s call and couldn’t resist asking.
Sophia did have this intention, but she didn’t know how to broach the topic with Easton Hols, and she couldn’t turn a blind eye to Theodore Hols. "That kid lost his mom at a young age, it’s really pitiful."
