Jas Reed’s words left Ethan Seymour stunned, utterly stunned, as he stamred, "You, what did you say?"
Once Jas Reed had spoken, he realized what he had shouted and felt he had acted impulsively.
"What are you saying again? You’re my son, do you need to let your fiancée sell herself? Do you believe such nonsense?" Ethan Seymour furiously questioned Jas Reed, while his cold, resentful gaze fell on Ophelia Wilson.
Ethan Seymour clearly did not believe the reason Ophelia Wilson had given, firmly convinced that it was all nonsense spoken by her to confuse his son!
"Jas, Uncle is right. Everything I said was false. I’ll leave first. Don’t make Uncle angry." Ophelia Wilson held back her tears, suppressing her grief, and was about to turn away, but Jas Reed didn’t give her a chance to leave, grabbing her firmly.
"Ophelia, wait a minute." Jas Reed seed to muster up courage, lifted his head, and stared at Ethan Seymour.
In his deep eyes, there was a pain that made Ethan Seymour’s heart tremble. Ethan Seymour didn’t know why, but it seed like he should say sothing at that mont. However, before he could speak, Jas Reed had already exploded.
"Dad, ever since mom and I ca to this house, big brother has been cold to , and grandpa and grandma don’t like . Uncle’s family looks down on even more. Even at school, classmates bully to curry favor with big brother."
"Do you know? There’s always trash in my desk, my stationery is always missing, and during gym class, they deliberately push down!"
As Jas Reed spoke, Ethan Seymour’s eyes widened in astonishnt, filled with incredulity: "Why didn’t you tell earlier?"
"What could I say? I’m the child of a mistress, with the last na Reed instead of Seymour. My mom and I are sinners, branded as the ones who caused the death of big brother’s mother, deserving whatever bullying cos our way!"
"No, not like that, how could you..." Ethan Seymour panicked, he had never seen such a helpless, vulnerable side of Jas Reed.
In his eyes, Jas had always been an optimistic, sensible child, understanding and compassionate. How could he have suffered so much without Ethan knowing?
"My mom as well, she rarely goes out to socialize with those noble ladies because they also mock and ridicule my mom!" Jas Reed’s words made Ethan Seymour turn his head in shock, seeking the truth in Charlotte Reed’s eyes.
Charlotte Reed tried to smile in comfort, but the overpowering bitterness made her smile look more pitiful and heartbreaking.
Ethan Seymour staggered, feeling as if a heavy hamr struck his heart fiercely, how could this happen?
Was this truly the kind of life his wife and son had been living with him?
"We can disregard all this, I only thought I could work harder, do more things for dad. But... no matter how hard I try, I’m still no match for big brother. Now, big brother’s excellence makes the company’s board of directors look at him with admiration!"
"Ophelia saw that I would be squeezed out of the company, that’s why she made such a foolish decision. How could I abandon her at a ti like this?" Jas Reed sniffed painfully, holding back his sobs, bowed to Ethan Seymour, and said, "Dad, I’m sorry, I can’t leave Ophelia."
"If dad thinks I don’t belong at ho, I can move out right away." After speaking, Jas Reed looked steadily at Ethan Seymour, waiting for his decision.
