The officer on duty in the lobby had already notified the person in charge of the case—the sa middle-aged officer who had just questioned Wu Yun.
The middle-aged officer walked out and ca up to Zhang Guowei.
Zhang Guowei handed over his business card and introduced himself. "Hello, Officer. I’m Wu Yun’s private lawyer. This is my card. May I ask your surna, Officer?"
"My surna is Wang!" The middle-aged officer felt a headache coming on. He hated dealing with these slick-talking lawyers the most, even though the case was straightforward. That young man, Wu Yun, wasn’t going to be in any real trouble.
Wu Yun was in no mood to listen to Lawyer Zhang and Officer Wang’s exchange. A perfectly good evening had been ruined by a few thugs, leaving a disgusting taste in his mouth, like finding a fly in his food.
He searched the System’s marketplace for bodyguard services, and a whole slew of options popped up. They were all single-use, imdiate-deploynt services, ranging from low-level thugs to high-end rcenaries, all at different price points.
’In a situation like tonight’s, I wasn’t familiar enough with the System’s services to order them in ti. I’ll need a permanent bodyguard from now on.’
"President Li, which day this week is Little Red Car scheduled to launch?" Wu Yun didn’t pull away from Wen ng’s hand, which was linked through his elbow, and turned his head to ask Li Qiuliang. Today was Tuesday, August 19th, and the original plan was to launch in the latter half of the month.
Li Qiuliang knew Wu Yun had been busy setting up other companies lately. "We’re planning to launch on the 21st," he said. "The promotional campaign is pretty much wrapped up. The first batch of 300,000 bicycles will arrive tomorrow. We’re preparing to deploy 260,000 in Rongcheng, and ten thousand in each of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen for the initial promotional push."
Wen ng’s eyes lit up. She knew Little Red Car was the product of the recently famous Nirvana Technology, but she hadn’t expected it to be Wu Yun’s company. She hugged his arm even tighter, the proximity through the thin layer of clothing sending a jolt through Wu Yun.
For the past ten days, people riding red bicycles could be seen zipping through the streets and alleys of Rongcheng. The internet was also filled with reviews and opinions on the shared bikes. The vast majority of the discussion was positive, and the few negative comnts barely made a ripple.
"Excellent! Then let’s proceed as planned. Allow to be the first to congratulate President Li on becoming a billionaire!" Wu Yun said with a laugh.
"Haha! Thank you for the good on, President Wu. But, President Wu, that OFO Little Yellow Car company you asked to keep an eye on has been established in the Capital City. It just happened in the last few days. Perhaps spurred on by us, they’re actively contacting investors, trying to attract an angel round." Li Qiuliang chuckled, but his tone shifted as he relayed the latest industry intelligence to Wu Yun.
Wu Yun was inwardly surprised. He hadn’t expected his actions would cause OFO Little Yellow Car to seek angel round funding ahead of schedule.
’Still, I’m not worried. At the angel round stage, OFO Little Yellow Car is probably nothing more than a business plan. It’ll likely be the fourth quarter before they can launch. By then, Little Red Car will probably have spread across the entire country.’
Wu Yun wasn’t arrogant enough to think he could monopolize the entire country; that was impossible. How many bicycles would it take to dominate thousands of cities of all sizes? Becoming a leading enterprise would be enough. But of course, he wouldn’t yield an inch of market share in the major cities. He would fight for it to the bitter end.
Wu Yun and Li Qiuliang continued their conversation while Wen ng sat quietly beside them, listening like a devoted little wife.
Wen ng watched Wu Yun chatting and laughing with a man a dozen years her senior, his calm, unique charisma intoxicating her. The resolve she had fird up earlier that night grew even stronger.
About ten minutes later, under Zhang Guowei’s guidance, Wu Yun and the others involved signed their nas on the relevant docunts. "President Wu, you’re all set," Zhang Guowei said. "You can leave the rest to our team."
Wu Yun nodded at Zhang Guowei. "Thank you for your hard work, Lawyer Zhang! Just tell the fees, and I’ll transfer the money to you."
Wu Yun then turned to Li Qiuliang, who looked like he was about to speak. "President Li, this is a personal matter. It wouldn’t be appropriate to bill it to the company."
Knowing Li Qiuliang hadn’t eaten yet, Wu Yun was about to invite him for a late-night snack, but Li Qiuliang politely declined, saying his wife had saved dinner for him at ho.
Wu Yun didn’t ask Li Qiuliang’s group for a ride. Instead, he, Wen ng, and her roommates called a DiDi. Wu Yun, Wen ng, Luo Heng, and Yang Shasha took one DiDi back to the Courtyard Hot Pot restaurant.
Wu Yun and Luo Heng were going to get their cars, while Yang Shasha was going to pay the bill. They had left in such a hurry that they hadn’t even paid for their al; her bag was still at the restaurant as collateral.
The ride was silent. Aside from Wu Yun, the other three were all lost in their own thoughts.
In the parking lot, Wu Yun chatted with Luo Heng while Wen ng went with Yang Shasha to pay.
"Junior, you really opened my eyes today!" Luo Heng gave Wu Yun a thumbs-up. "You see videos of one guy fighting many all over the internet, but seeing it in person today... it’s way more shocking than anything you see online."
"Senior, you could use so practice yourself. Otherwise, that other guy wouldn’t have gotten past you to sneak attack !" Wu Yun said with a smile.
Luo Heng scratched his head in embarrassnt. A guy like him, who was always out having fun, had no ti to learn how to fight. His biggest workouts were racing his BMW M4 and... ’exercising’ with his female friends. The only reason he’d even joined the fight today was by mustering up all his courage.
"Junior, you know I like to have fun. I’m afraid I can’t handle that kind of hardship."
"It’s fine, Senior. You can just learn a little here and there. What if it cos in handy? Like, for example, in a situation like today’s."
...
After a bit more small talk, Luo Heng said his goodbyes and left first.
Wu Yun sat in his car waiting for Wen ng. Just a mont ago in the DiDi, he had received a ssage from her: "Junior, I want to be with you tonight. I’m a little scared! [Pouty face emoji]"
A mont later, the passenger side door opened, and Wen ng slid in.
「Shida Modern Garden.」
Wen ng recognized the familiar area. She often ca here to eat with her classmates while shopping.
The Big Black Bull turned into the underground garage and parked in a designated spot.
Moving with practiced ease, Wu Yun led Wen ng to the building entrance and up to the 31st floor.
"Junior, is this a place you’re renting?" Wen ng asked, instantly falling in love with the cozy decor.
"No, I bought it a while ago. It’s convenient for school and for getting to the office. The company is right across the street in the Jingkai Technology Industry Incubation Park," Wu Yun said as he pulled a pair of won’s slippers from the shoe cabinet.
Wen ng’s happy expression froze for a second before she smiled again. "Junior, I’m really impressed. You started your own business before even starting university."
After hearing Wu Yun’s conversation with Li Qiuliang, Wen ng had specifically looked up Nirvana Technology online. She was stunned to find the news about Nirvana Technology signing a 3 billion yuan contract with Phoenix Bicycle. She already held Wu Yun in high regard, but after seeing that, she was practically weak in the knees.
Wen ng hesitated for a mont, then took the slippers Wu Yun offered. She bent over slightly, lifting a leg to switch out of her sandals.
