As Jiang Xue walked in, she imdiately noticed her mother’s exhausted face and her father’s pale complexion. This ti, his face looked much worse than the last ti she saw him.
Seeing her parents like this, Jiang Xue couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt. It was all her fault for being useless, not only failing to honor them properly but also causing them trouble.
"Daughter, why are you here?" Father Jiang, lying in the hospital bed, was the first to see Jiang Xue, his face lighting up with joy.
"Dad, I’ve co to see you." Jiang Xue smiled and walked to her father’s bedside, looking at him and asking, "Dad, how are you feeling? Any better?"
"This illness is what it is, nothing much better or worse." Father Jiang dismissed Jiang Xue’s concern, while Mrs. Jiang wanted to speak but held back after catching Father Jiang’s warning glance.
Jiang Xue knew her father didn’t want her to worry, which was why he said that. She didn’t contradict him but turned to Mrs. Jiang and said, "Mom, you’ve been taking care of Dad for several days now; you must be tired. Why don’t you go ho and rest? I’ll take care of Dad."
"I’m fine, but it’s you who should be concerned; there’s a child at ho. Just stay for a while and then go back; the child is too small and needs soone there."
"It’s fine, the child is being looked after by my parents-in-law. I’ll just call them, and it will be all right." Before going to the Jiang Family Village, Jiang Xue had already inford her in-laws that she might return a little late. Besides, she had prepared the bamboo marrow for Little Reunion, so it wouldn’t be an issue if she stayed longer.
"But what if the child needs milk?" Mrs. Jiang said disapprovingly. A child that young cannot eat anything else.
"I left milk at ho this morning, so if the child gets hungry, my in-laws can just feed him."
"But..." Mrs. Jiang wanted to say sothing more, but Father Jiang interrupted her, saying, "Old lady, listen to our daughter and go take a break for half the day, and co back later."
"Okay then, I’ll head back first." With Father Jiang’s decision, Mrs. Jiang had no choice but to leave for now. To be honest, she had been taking care of everything by herself these days and was indeed exhausted.
After Mrs. Jiang left, Jiang Xue noticed there was still more than half a bottle of the dication left, so there was no imdiate need to change it. She told Father Jiang, "Dad, I’m going to make a phone call."
"Go on, go on!" Father Jiang waved his hand, watching Jiang Xue as she exited the hospital room, before retracting his gaze.
Jiang Xue first made a phone call, asking Uncle Wang at the small shop to inform her in-laws that she would not be returning until the afternoon. After making the call, she went to the doctor’s office to understand her father’s dical condition.
The Doctor repeated to Jiang Xue what had already been said to Mrs. Jiang. After hearing this, Jiang Xue’s expression beca a bit grim, feeling even more resentnt towards Cheng Li.
Clearly, she needed to resolve this problem quickly. Otherwise, if she couldn’t always be there for her parents and another incident angered her father into a worse condition, it would be too late for regrets.
Thanking the Doctor, Jiang Xue returned to the hospital room once more.
"Finished your call?" Father Jiang smiled when he saw his daughter returning.
"Yes. I asked Uncle Wang to inform them and said I’ll go back in the afternoon."
Father Jiang didn’t say much more on hearing this and instead asked about Jiang Xue’s affairs, saying, "Xue’er, I heard you took your in-laws to the city a few days ago?"
"Dad, how did you know that?" Jiang Xue was a bit surprised. Although Jiang Family Village wasn’t far from Huanglong Village, it wasn’t close either.
Not many people in Huanglong Village knew about their trip to the city, so how did her father know?
