Jack took out his key and opened the door. The living room was completely dark. Holding flowers, Jack walked towards the bedroom with so confusion. Maureen had given him her house key long ago, so that her dearest student could co to her house for tutoring whenever he wanted.

He gently knocked on the door, but there was no response. Instead, he saw a cat collar hanging on the door knob..

What the heck? Wasn't Maureen allergic to cat fur? Why was she keeping cats?

Jack turned the doorknob in confusion and opened the bedroom door.

They wore matching fluffy cat ear headbands and matching fluffy cat paw gloves... The two mature won were owing sultrly and beckoning him with their surprise.

That night, Jack spent ti with the two mature won.

The next three months were probably the most relaxed period for Jack since he joined the police force. There were no serial killers, no gang shootouts, no car chases, and no headshots.

Justine's recovery took longer than expected, almost 50 days, but the extent of her recovery exceeded expectations. Before Chris took her back to Chicago, she was already helping Jack in the kitchen.

Although Justine still has so fear of going out and talking to strangers, she can now communicate normally with familiar people. During a video call with Professor Harper, a simple greeting brought tears to the eyes of the 60-sothing-year-old professor.

As a token of gratitude, Chris left Jack a handgun before leaving, finally allowing his exquisite Colt Python to retire.

It was a Czech-made FK 7.5mm pistol, released less than four years ago, and this was the first ti Jack had ever seen one in person — simply because it was so expensive.

The pistol has a market price as high as $7,500, and it's even harder to find one. It's said that only 1,001 were sold nationwide. A box of 50 specially made 7.5mm bullets sells for $83, more than ten tis the price of regular bullets.

But Jack fell in love with this 1.3kg behemoth made entirely of alloy steel after firing just one magazine at the shooting range; the feel was simply amazing.

The streamlined design of the long, slender body, while holding a 15-round magazine, didn't feel bulky, perfectly fitting his hand.

Remarkably, this high-powered pistol had extrely soft recoil, allowing Jack to easily fire continuously with one hand. Keep in mind that the 7.5mm bullets used in this gun are said to have a muzzle energy exceeding 1200 joules, reaching 700 joules even at 100 ters.

The only downside is that the pistol leaves very obvious marks after firing, and the bullet caliber is also very unique, making it unsuitable for certain situations. If Jack registers the gun, it will be very easy for him to be traced.

Jack completely overlooked this minor drawback. Having this spare gun was enough for him to handle most everyday gunfights, as it could easily penetrate Level IIIA body armor even at 100 ters.

Hannah was returning from Quantico in a week, Zoe was officially leaving the LAPD at the end of the month, Wade Grey was soon to be promoted, and Tim had successfully passed his sergeant's exam, becoming Sergeant Bradford and now serving as the patrol officers' training commander.

Angela had beco a detective and was now preparing for her wedding, nearly four months pregnant; hopefully, she could finish before giving birth.

Nolan was working towards becoming a training officer; perhaps in a year, he would go from being the oldest rookie patrolman in the Wilshire precinct to a rookie training officer.

Jack submitted his resignation to the LAPD last week, and Rossi had officially invited him to join the FBI, removing the two-year experience requirent and the 23-year age limit, offering him a special position provided he could successfully pass the five-month training test in Quantico.

The most anxious person right now is Lucy. Her relationship with Tim is about to be made public, but it's clear that Tim, who has just been promoted to training commander, is unlikely to be transferred to another division as Jack rembers. So, she's the only one who can make a move.

Fortunately, no one is encouraging Lucy to go undercover this ti, and being transferred to another precinct is her only option.

Every day, Jack spends his ti issuing tickets, dealing with street drug dealers and petty thieves. His system experience has almost completely stalled. Since the Rosalind case, Jack has only accumulated two system coins, not even enough to upgrade a single mastery skill, including the one he had saved.

He even doubts whether he'll have a chance to fire his new gun before becoming a federal agent.

Like the thief he and Lucy are currently chasing — an Asian kid with a knack for parkour, leaping and bounding like he's been through several action movies, constantly knocking over trash cans and other objects as he runs.

Perhaps due to working with Jack too much lately and getting free lunches every day, Lucy has noticeably gained weight and is struggling to keep up.

Jack, not wanting to spend another $160 on a new uniform before leaving the LAPD, carefully avoided the ssy alleyways, keeping a distance from the guy, wanting to see how long he can run.

Ten minutes later, the Asian guy finally started to run out of breath. Seeing he couldn't shake Jack off, he spun around, jumped over a broken wire fence, and rushed into a dilapidated factory.

"Are you still okay?" Jack waited for Lucy, who was following closely behind, at the factory entrance and asked with a grin.

"Keep going," Lucy gritted her teeth and spat out two words.

Jack chuckled, pulled out his Glock, turned on its tactical flashlight, and planned to trap the Asian guy inside. The Asian guy had gone silent after rushing into the factory; Jack's ntal strength was now over 25, and he hadn't sensed anything, aning the guy had definitely found a corner to hide in.

The empty factory workshops were clearly visible. Jack and Lucy walked straight through, entered the office area, and began clearing rooms one by one along the corridor.

They had only gone halfway when the hiding Asian guy suddenly jumped out again, appearing in front of them and yelling.

"Oh my God, I've run into it!"

"Hands up!" Lucy shouted sharply, pointing her gun at him.

"I'm going to throw up." The Asian kid's cheeks puffed out before he finished speaking.

Jack subtly moved half a step to the side and ordered, "Lie face down."

Lucy stepped forward, handcuffing him as she asked, "What did you touch?"

"A corpse, ugh."

To prevent the kid from choking on his own vomit, Jack grabbed his hair and moved his head to the side, then said to Lucy, "Watch him. I'm going in to check."

Corpses an cases, cases an experience. He'd been bored to death these past few months, honing his language skills to near fluency, and recently started learning Latin and Italian.
