"You bastard, you're a complete liar! You said you knew how to find him and rescue my daughter, and what are you and your n doing now? Just standing here watching? You even tried to send soone to take my other daughter away?"
When Agent Schier from the FBI's New York office and the local New Haven agent arrived, this chaotic scene greeted them.
Evan Davenport and Rossi were engaged in a heated verbal exchange, while the other three mbers of the BAU team stood by helplessly, none of them even thinking to help Rossi.
"No, don't try to fool , don't try to deceive anymore, I will never believe you again!"
Seeing that Evan was about to lose control and almost attack Rossi, the impeccably dressed, elite-looking Schier quickly stepped forward and pulled him away.
"Evan, don't be like this. Everyone's doing their best."
"You need to rest. Trust Rossi and his team; they're the elite of the elite. Co on, let's go rest next door."
Seeing several FBI agents escorting Evan to the next room, Rossi, who had looked a little disheveled, straightened his slightly ruffled coat and winked at Jack and JJ, indicating that it was their turn next.
Jack took a deep breath, composed himself. He always had to act; he felt that if he ever left the police force and beca an actor, he'd have a wide range of roles, at least he wouldn't need a stunt double in action movies.
After waiting a mont, he and JJ led Cheryl to the next room and found Agent Schier, who had helped Evan sit down.
JJ cut to the chase. "Agent Schier, we have reason to believe the kidnapper will target Cheryl again. He knows the Davenport family very well and is familiar with this house."
"And he knows us too, possessing too much crucial information. We suspect he's hiding among us; this place is no longer safe."
"We need to re-examine Evan Davenport's network of contacts and cross-reference it with information from local New Haven agents. In the anti, Cheryl shouldn't remain here."
JJ stated the BAU team's next plan.
Agent Schier paused, seemingly surprised by the news. He glanced at the FBI agents from New Haven around him, then led the two out of the room to a quiet corner of the living room.
"You an, it was done by soone inside the FBI's New Haven office?"
Jack nodded, answering confidently. "We've done a psychological profile, and based on the information the kidnapper provided, we're pretty sure he's one of our own. We need to limit the number of agents who can contact Cheryl, so…"
Agent Schier hesitated, "I can arrange a safe house, but even though I'm from the New York office…"
Jack appeared nonchalant and carefree.
"I already asked Evan Davenport, and he said he's an old friend of your father and quite familiar with you. Besides, New York and New Haven aren't far apart, but they're still quite a distance."
Agent Schier's expression brightened. "Thank you for your trust. I'll arrange it right away. As for the accompanying protection?"
"The fewer the better. JJ and I will go together, and you can bring one or two trustworthy people," Jack replied.
Agent Schier nodded. "I can manage on my own then. Calling soone from New York would only increase the risk of being spotted."
"How long will it take? We hope to leave as soon as possible, the sooner the better," JJ asked anxiously.
Agent Schier's answer was quite confident. "20 minutes. The safe house is ready; I just need to make a call. However, we lack water and food, so I need soone to prepare them."
"No need to trouble yourself. We'll buy them ourselves when we get there. Rossi is pushing too hard." Jack said, seemingly unconcerned.
At dawn, before the sun had fully risen, two Suburbans, one after the other, left the Davenport family's residence in the hazy mist.
Jack rested one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the window, lazily yawning and occasionally glancing at the car following behind.
Agent Schier was now in the passenger seat beside him, leading the way, while JJ drove the car behind, protecting Cheryl.
"Haven't you guys had a break?" Agent Schier had the air of a wealthy young man, but he was surprisingly approachable.
Jack sighed. "That kidnapper was too cunning, always one step ahead of us. It's a pity I almost caught him in the parking lot earlier."
"Besides, I haven't had a good night's sleep in ages. That bastard, how did he guess?"
"What did you say?" Agent Schier seed not to have heard the last part of his sentence.
"Nothing, I an, I don't sleep well alone, and my girlfriend broke up with . I can't sleep alone, you know what I an?" Jack's smile was sowhat strained.
Agent Schier gave a knowing smile that most n understand. "Of course, as an FBI agent myself, I completely understand how you feel. The constant high-pressure environnt leaves us all exhausted and in need of an outlet."
Jack chuckled, as if he'd suddenly found a kindred spirit. "What do you think of Agent JJ?"
Agent Schier maintained his smile. "A very beautiful girl. You're interested in her?"
"Don't you think she's stunningly beautiful? That flowing, shiny blonde hair, perfect face, and of course… well… her figure."
A series of laughs emanated from inside the car.
The eternal topic of won between n seed to quickly bridge the gap between them. Agent Schier asked curiously, "Didn't you try to pursue her?"
Jack's expression beca uncertain, and after a long pause, he asked, "I don't know, do you think Agent JJ might be interested in ?"
Seeing Agent Schier's surprised look, Jack quickly explained, "It's that look in her eyes. When she looks at , her fingers lightly brush against her hair. Sotis when we accidentally touch, she gives that smile. I don't know if you can understand."
"I always feel like her full, red lips seem to want to say sothing, like she's hinting that I should be more proactive, even more proactive."
As Jack spoke, seemingly to himself, the car fell silent for a mont. After what seed like an eternity, Agent Schier seed to be suddenly awakened from his own world and quickly echoed, "I understand you, really, I totally understand you. I think you should take the initiative, there's no need to hesitate."
Jack gave a cryptic smile and nodded. "That's what I was thinking too. Hey, buddy, when we get to the safe house, could you cover for ? I want to be alone with her for a little while, just a little while, maybe 20 minutes, or half an hour?"
Agent Schier readily agreed. "No problem. Maybe you could suggest going out with her to buy food and bottled water. When you co back, there are a few rooms next door where you can rest; the soundproofing is pretty good."
"It's settled then, you're a really good friend." Jack was excited, looking like a bull in heat.
The safe house wasn't too far away. Twenty minutes later, two Suburbans stopped in front of a rather unassuming little villa.
The three of them got out of the cars, shielding Cheryl in the middle, and went inside.
The interior was sparsely furnished; the rooms were small, each a single room with only a bed and a small bathroom covered only by a simple plastic curtain.
After settling Cheryl in one of the rooms, while JJ was still gently comforting the sowhat shaken girl, Jack and Agent Schier retreated to the equally small living room.
"We're here," Jack reported to Rossi, hanging up the phone and winking smugly at Agent Schier.
Agent Schier nodded knowingly and said loudly, "I'll go check the area around the villa. Leave this to for now. There's a supermarket less than 2 kiloters to the west; you can go check it out."
Five minutes later, as the car engine drove away, Agent Schier peeked out from behind the villa, confird no one was around, opened the front door with a smug look, and re-entered the villa.
"Knock, knock, knock." A knock sounded at the door.
"Co in," ca Cheryl's slightly tired voice from inside.
Schier pushed open the door and entered. Seeing Cheryl sitting on the edge of the bed, looking dejected, a look of triumphant joy spread across his face.
"Finally, I can be alone with you, Cheryl."
Cheryl seed startled by his strange expression, staring blankly at him, motionless.
"When those people compare you and Tracy, observing the differences between you two, doesn't it make you feel bad?" Schier said, pulling a switchblade from his pocket and slowly approaching the girl.
"But I won't do that. You two hold the sa place in my heart. I love you, and I love Tracy. I've loved you both for a long ti."
Cheryl, like a startled rabbit, jumped onto the bed, shrinking into the innermost corner.
"Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you. You are both my dearest loves. We will live together, share the sa bed, and sleep side by side."
Schier's eyes glead with excitent as he reached out to grab the girl.
"Put the knife down." A Glock suddenly erged from the bathroom, hidden by a plastic curtain, pointed at Schier's back, accompanied by JJ's low, suppressed shout.
Schier froze, slowly raising his hands and turning to face JJ.
His tone was gentle, his voice unhurried as he explained, "You don't understand the bond between and these two girls, our relationship…" Just as his eyes hardened, as he prepared to fight to the death, JJ delivered a sudden kick, sending Schier's body arching like a lobster before he slowly collapsed to the floor.
At the sa ti, the door was flung open, and Jack, breathing slightly heavily, appeared in the doorway.
