Emily Prentiss looked a bit older than JJ, probably around the sa age as Zoe. She had long, slightly wavy black hair, only slightly shorter than JJ's bright blonde hair.

While not a stunning beauty like JJ, she possessed an intellectual and rational air that inspired trust and reliance.

Spending a little more ti with her revealed her clear and articulate speech, a sowhat assertive personality, and a kind of approachable older sister vibe — at least Reid liked it, and the two quickly beca friends.

Penelope Garcia was an oddity. Although in her early thirties, she loved to dress up, often in flamboyant outfits. Her overly voluptuous figure made her look more like an average person than anyone else in the group.

However, she was very simple-minded. While she occasionally seed to have so hidden agendas, they were easily understood, since everyone else in the group was a psychologist capable of reading people at a glance.

Jack thought Penelope Garcia was likely to be the most popular mber of the group; her cheerful personality quickly made her friends with everyone, except for the oldest, Rossi, and the perpetually poker-faced Aaron Hotchner.

Surprisingly, of the three newcors, the one Jack interacted with first was the stern Hotchner.

First, at the FBI's indoor shooting range, Jack dragged the reluctant Reid to practice shooting.

"You said that once my wrist is steady enough, hitting the target will just be a simple ballistic calculation. My calculation ability is innate, so why do I have to practice every day? My reading ti is already taking up so much of it," Reid complained about Jack's daily dragging him to shooting practice.

"Because I need you to maintain muscle mory," Jack replied without further ado, putting on his headphones and casually standing at the shooting position.

Reid thought he was about to perform another one of those incredible blind-firing techniques, but instead, he suddenly drew his gun and yelled, "FBI, drop your weapons!"

A barrage of gunfire followed, emptying the magazine in less than three seconds. With a flick of his thumb, the magazine slid out, and his other hand was already holding another magazine, ready to be reloaded with a click.

The gunfire continued, and the mont the second magazine was emptied, the Glock was handed from his right hand to his left. He then drew his FK 7.5mm from his holster, and another deafening shot rang out.

With a whirring sound, the target paper was presented to the two n: a 15-ter half-body target with two black holes in the head and heart, but no other bullet holes.

"See that?" Jack picked up the target paper, looking at Reid through the black hole in the head.

"We're dealing with extrely vicious criminals. Even at the very last mont, we must be prepared for their desperate fight."

"If I were a deranged serial killer, and we t face-to-face, how do you think you'd handle ?"

Jack grinned, a sinister expression on his face, and gradually approached Reid, causing him to involuntarily take a half-step back, bumping into Hotchner, who was watching the spectacle with amusent.

"You'll give Dr. Reid nightmares tonight." Hotchner said, helping Reid up, his serious expression making it unclear whether he was joking or genuinely trying to persuade Jack.

He reached out and took the target paper, examining it closely for a while before raising an eyebrow. "Jack, are you really from the LAPD and not SWAT? I've never seen this kind of marksmanship in the operations office or among the FBI's SWAT teams."

"If it were , I could only pray there was a SWAT team behind when I t you. Aren't your expectations of Dr. Reid a bit too high?"

Jack said, tidying his two pistols while gesturing for Reid to look at the odd wooden holster hanging loosely on his waist.

"You know why I haven't corrected Reid's way of carrying his gun?"

Hotchner pondered for a mont, a slight smile playing on his lips, almost imperceptible at first glance.

"You want him to create a false impression?"

Jack nodded. "Yes, his appearance is very deceptive; it's the best disguise. No one will see him as a primary threat."

Hotchner nodded in understanding, then stood silently to the side.

Jack sent Reid off to practice shooting, then cleaned his two service pistols. After reassembling his handgun, he began loading the magazine.

Seeing Hotchner still standing there with a furrowed brow, seemingly making a difficult decision, he couldn't help but smile.

"Is sothing wrong? Did Rossi ask you to see ?"

As a local, and having served as a patrol officer in Wilshire for a year, Jack was no longer the naive young man who needed Hannah and Zoe's help to rent a place.

Although he didn't have a bunch of informants, his daily patrols in downtown Los Angeles made him quite familiar with the area.

Aside from Reid, who could barely be considered a local, Jack had helped the other team mbers in various ways during their move to Los Angeles, from renting apartnts to moving.

Even small things like hiring cleaners or applying for parking spaces could be solved with a simple note with their phone numbers.

Hotchner hesitated for a long ti before finally speaking with so difficulty, "My wife, Haley, is eight months pregnant. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia, and although it's relatively stable, I'm worried about her recent health, but the insurance company…"

"I understand. Your specialist hasn't sorted things out yet, right? I'll contact my friend at the central hospital right away."

Jack interrupted him, took out his phone, and dialed Carrie's number. He quickly arranged a hospital bed so Hotchner's wife could be admitted for examination the next day.

The next day at noon, Jack baked so delicious little cakes and went to the FBI building. He went to the 12th floor first and found Hannah, who had just returned from a business trip, to give her a small gift.

Compared to the BAU team, which had just arrived and hadn't yet begun operations, the FBI's Los Angeles field office was much busier. The fax machine was whirring, the phone was ringing incessantly, and Hannah was frowning as she wrote a report on her computer.

Upon seeing Jack, she scratched her ssy hair, looking utterly pathetic, and he could only shrug, indicating he couldn't help.

Not wanting to bother the sweetheart for long, Jack ignored the curious whispers of Hannah's FBI colleagues, received a sweet kiss, and left.

He didn't go up to the BAU floor but returned to the garage, restarted the Firebird, and headed to Central Hospital.

Central Hospital was as busy as ever. Jack first found Dr. Carrie, presented her with a basket of small cakes, and expressed his gratitude.

Dr. Carrie looked radiant, seemingly deeply in love; it seed her wedding with Nolan was indeed imminent.
