When Jack, Angela, and Hannah arrived at room 365 on the third floor, the room was a ss. A large hole had been punched in the plasterboard partition wall to the right of the door, through which the drug dealers had entered the bedroom. Lucy had been shot in the chest and lay on the floor, her life hanging in the balance. Two burly n were wrestling with Tim, and a Latina woman was trembling on the living room sofa, holding a newborn baby.

Jack, fearing friendly fire, hesitated to shoot. Just as he was about to draw his baton and approach, Angela and Hannah each pulled out a Taser and expertly stunned the two n.

"Lucy!" Tim, bruised and battered, didn't even bother to get up. He scrambled to Lucy's side and ripped open her bulletproof vest.

"Cough... I'm alright." Lucy, regaining consciousness, coughed violently, pulling a bulletproof plate from her chest. A deford bullet was embedded in it.

"Vance Marcus is gone. He confessed to killing my wife." Seeing Lucy was alright, Tim picked up his pistol and rushed out of the room. Jack, worried about him, followed closely behind.

"Officer Bradford, don't panic. Marcus won't get away. Reinforcents downstairs have arrived." Jack, following behind Tim, tried to calm him down. The situation had reversed; they were in a strong position, and they needed to be wary of a counterattack.

Just as he feared, Tim reached the other end of the stairs and looked down. A burst of bullets grazed his scalp, ricocheting dangerously off the hard wall. He acted like a madman, completely ignoring the bullets. Taking advantage of Marcus's reloading, he flipped over the handrail, leaped from the third floor to the second-floor landing, and pulled the trigger on Marcus, who was trying to reload his Uzi submachine gun.

Tim made a mistake at this mont. After drawing his sidearm, he forgot to check his remaining ammunition. The first bullet hit Marcus's chest vest, causing him to stagger back two steps. As he tried to pull the trigger again, his Glock slide locked back.

Seeing that Marcus had already picked up his reloaded Uzi to take down Tim, Jack stumbled forward and pulled the trigger repeatedly. Six powerful .357 Magnum rounds pierced through the vest, leaving six fist-sized exit wounds on his back due to the cavitation effect.

"Fuck you, Bradford, you almost killed us both!" Jack collapsed in the middle of the stairs, blood gushing from his calf.

The previous burst of bullets missed Tim but ricocheted off the wall, one of which hit Jack's right calf from behind. Fortunately, due to the angle, it didn't hit the leg bone but lodged in the calf muscle.

Seeing this, Tim quickly pulled a tourniquet from his first-aid kit and tied it below Jack's right knee, looking remorseful. He had indeed been blinded by hatred, and this wasn't how a veteran should behave: "I'm sorry, kid, it's my fault. Thank you."

Jack didn't dwell on it too much. Watching Zoe in her uniform and bulletproof vest, and the commander Gery appear at the stairwell entrance, followed by a group of SWAT officers and police colleagues, he breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, it was all over.

"Jack." Seeing him fall to the ground with a gunshot wound to his calf, Zoe's anxious expression was unspoken. She wanted to push Tim aside and go check on him herself.

"Captain Anderson, I'm fine. I don't think I broke any bones. Have you found Officer Bishop? Her injuries are very serious." Jack deliberately emphasized his address, intending to remind her.

Zoe also realized she had been a bit out of line. Her relationship with Jack absolutely could not be exposed, otherwise not only would Jack's future be ruined, but her family's planned political career for her would also suffer a devastating blow.

"Bishop has been taken to the central hospital by ambulance. Are there any other injured people upstairs?"

"Lucy was shot in the chest, but her bulletproof vest protected her, so she should be fine. There's a pregnant woman who just gave birth and a baby upstairs, so I'll leave them to you. I'll take Jack to the hospital first." Tim said, putting one of Jack's arms around his neck and helping him stand up on one leg.

Zoe's eyes were still full of concern as she nodded, "I'll co to see you at the hospital later."

....

With a clang, a .40 caliber bullet from an Uzi submachine gun lay intact on a stainless steel tray. Dr. Grey put down the tweezers; although her face wasn't visible due to the mask, her eyes were full of smiles.

"Jack, you're lucky. The bullet only went in less than two centiters. You don't even need stitches. Leaving an opening to drain will actually help it heal faster. You'll be able to walk around in about a week."

Because the wound was in his leg, he didn't need general anesthesia. Jack was fully conscious and was trying his best to suppress the damn aftereffects. Hearing this, he managed a weak smile: "Thank you, Dr. Grey. I've always been lucky, you know that."

Grey skillfully bandaged the wound and playfully tied a bow on it. She deliberately leaned close to him and gently patted his handso face, so close that Jack could even feel her breath through her mask.

" You can be discharged tomorrow. Rember to co back in three days for a dressing change, consider it an extra service."

The nurse chuckled like a mother hen. "Or you could just extend his stay for a couple more days. I can arrange for him to have a private room in your usual afternoon nap room, I guarantee no one will disturb you."

If he hadn't watched several seasons of that dical drama, Jack wouldn't have minded having sothing happen between him and Grey. After all, the female lead was quite a rare beauty, and now, due to the lingering effects, his mind was filled with thoughts of sex and murder.

But he was genuinely horrified by the chaotic private lives of these surgeons.

When Grey pushed Jack in his wheelchair out of the operating room, the police officers waiting outside stood up and applauded, smiling. Of course, the applause wasn't for Dr. Grey, who had only perford minor surgery.

"Alright, I've returned the hero to you intact." Grey waved goodbye.

"Hey, well done! I heard about today's events. You did a fantastic job today, and yesterday too. I haven't even had a chance to thank you for saving yesterday."

Nolan, also in a wheelchair, congratulated Jack first. The woman pushing his wheelchair was a doctor Jack hadn't seen before; she looked about Nolan's age, but still retained her charm. Jack noticed an indescribable look in her eyes as she looked at Nolan.

Before Jack could speak, Hannah rushed up and hugged him tightly, giving him a hard kiss on the cheek: "If it weren't for you and Angela today, Talia and I might not have survived."
