Reminded by Hannah, Jack quickly asked, "How is Officer Bishop?"
"Ahem!" Zoe, with a displeased expression, approached and coughed lightly, finally causing Hannah to reluctantly release her arms from Jack's neck. She glared at Hannah before turning to Jack and saying, "Dr. House, the best surgeon at Central Hospital, is operating on her. He said thanks to your ergency care, Officer Bishop is out of danger."
Jack's eyes turned to Tim, who was standing to the side with his arms crossed, and he asked with concern, "Officer Bradford, how is your wife?"
Tim's usually stern face broke into a rare smile as he nodded. "Isabella's surgery was done this afternoon. The doctor said there's a high chance she'll wake up." He paused, his expression grave, before Lucy, who was grinning, nudged him with her elbow. It seed he had made up his mind before he continued with difficulty, "You can call Tim from now on. Thank you again for saving my life today. You're the best rookie I've ever t."
Jack grinned happily. Getting praise from this guy wasn't easy; this bullet hadn't been for nothing. He then turned to Lucy, who had also been shot, and asked, "Are you alright?"
Lucy proudly patted her chest. "The doctor said if my cup size were a size smaller, I might have fractured a rib. Now, apart from so bruises, I'm fine."
Jack's gaze swept over the ladies around him, thinking, 'You're the only one here with a B cup, what's there to be proud of?' He directly teased, "Others probably wouldn't even have bruises, right?"
Angela slapped him on the shoulder. "If you weren't injured, Lucy and I would beat you up right now."
After a burst of laughter, Maureen, a woman with gold-rimd glasses who appeared out of nowhere, took the handles of Jack's wheelchair. "Alright everyone, this handso young man still needs to undergo a few tests, so I'll take care of him for now."
With that, she winked at Zoe and pushed Jack away from the surgical waiting area.
Through the elevator, Maureen pushed Jack into a doctor's office on the 5th floor, closed the door, and laid him down on a makeshift bed.
"I think I've found your problem," she said, picking up a stack of reports from the table and sitting down beside Jack's bed.
"Uh, did Zoe call you?" Jack swallowed hard.
The faint scent of the bespectacled woman's perfu had been subtly tantalizing him since earlier. Now, as she sat by the bed, her slightly lifted white coat revealed the edge of her black stockings and the garter belt above, further clouding his already weakened will due to the aftereffects.
Maureen gave a soft snort, seemingly annoyed that Jack hadn't inford her imdiately afterward. "Yes, Zoe called before you went to the hospital, so I was able to schedule the necessary tests for your pre-operative checkup."
Jack's Adam's apple bobbed, desperately trying to tear his gaze away from the indentation around the top of the stockings. In the confined space, the alluring scent of her perfu seed to grow stronger.
"So... where exactly is my problem?"
Maureen seed oblivious to Jack's unease, her gaze never leaving the report in her hands. "Blood tests show that after you were taken to the hospital, your adrenaline levels remained consistently high. Even after you left the high-pressure environnt, your adrenaline levels only slightly decreased, but they are still higher than your normal average. Your so-called bloodlust actually stems from this."
"So, is it my body's fault?"
Maureen shook her head. "Aren't you wondering why a bullet wound to the leg required a full-body MRI? I've examined you; there are no tumors or lesions in your brain or adrenal glands. So, my initial assessnt is that this is a subconscious issue. Your brain has been assuming you're in a dangerous environnt, and it seems that to counteract the side effects of adrenaline, your levels of dopamine, endorphins, and testosterone have also remained high. This also aligns with the description of you remaining calm throughout the fight."
"Oh shit, I don't think I'm calm at all right now." Jack felt his rationality was like a steel wire about to snap; just a little more force and it would break.
"You fool, this is a gift from God. You were born to be an excellent warrior. If you were born in ancient tis, you would definitely be the strongest knight in the land and the lover that noble ladies would never want to let go."
Maureen slamd the test report shut, her gaze towards Jack like a pirate discovering a mountain of gold coins.
"I'd rather not have this damn talent, Maureen. Could you call Zoe for ?" Jack felt like he was about to collapse. What perfu was this woman wearing? The damn scent was too alluring, making him want to bury his head in her chest and take deep breaths.
"Hmph, what do you want? To have Zoe co to my office and do sothing naughty with you? You hormone-driven beast, this is my office!" Maureen leaned down to look at him, her rich and deep cleavage clearly visible through her open collar. Her words were sarcastic, yet a seductive smile played on her lips.
"Hiss!" It felt like a heavy hamr had struck a steel wire about to snap. Jack swore the bespectacled woman's current behavior was definitely intentional.
"Besides," Maureen placed her slender hand on Jack's chest, slowly unbuttoning his hospital gown one button at a ti, "Zoe is on duty right now. She just begged to take good care of her patient. Do you have a better way to calm your subconscious?"
"A wounded beast is very dangerous," Jack gritted his teeth.
"It's okay, I locked the door from the inside. No one can be hurt." Maureen's voice beca more alluring than any siren's call.
She reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, stuck out her tongue, licked her pink lips, and slowly lowered her head.
"I'm a patient, and you're my doctor." The steel wire in his mind snapped completely, but Jack still tried to struggle.
Maureen looked up and gave him a reproachful look. "So you better behave and don't move. Doctor sister will take care of you."
An hour later, a rapid knocking sounded at the door.
"Maureen, are you in there?" It was Zoe's voice.
"Wait a mont." Lying in Jack's arms, Maureen patted the man, whose body was stiff with tension, lazily got up, put on her white coat, opened the door to let Zoe in, and then locked it again.
