After starting the diesel generator on the first floor, not only did the fourth-floor rooms have a wireless signal, but they also had clean water available.
There was a deep well next to the building, and after the power was connected, clean groundwater was continuously sent into the water tank. Although they could only take a simple cold shower, it still invigorated everyone.
"I've never missed the California sun and beaches so much."
Stepping out of the bathroom, Jack sighed, taking the clean T-shirt that JJ handed him. Just as he was about to put it on, she hugged him tightly.
Neither of them spoke again. Gently stroking ther back, feeling the dampness on his chest, Jack knew what she was afraid of.
"Don't worry, everything will pass, the nightmare will end soon."
Feeling her calm down a little, Jack released her. It wasn't that he didn't know how to be gentle, or that he wanted to pretend to be serious.
There was simply no ti right now; both of them were extrely busy.
JJ has now beco the leader of the won in this small group. Not only do the two female college students follow her lead, but the wives of the other couples also united around her.
The n are busy clearing the building and building so simple defenses, such as using planks from the mine to block up the windows on the first and second floors.
The won are responsible for washing clothes and have started a fire in the open space downstairs to dry them.
They also have two people helping to take care of the four rescued girls.
After JJ's patient communication, a girl nad Nadine finally agreed to speak. She is the oldest of the girls, fifteen years old, and knows so basic English. She has been imprisoned for two years.
The longest the other girls have been imprisoned was no more than six months. So of the others died of disease, so committed suicide because they couldn't bear the torture, and so suffered from severe bleeding, like the corpse that was carried downstairs.
Nadine has survived because she cos from a relatively enlightened rchant family. Her parents not only sent her to a girls' school but also bought her costics, teaching her to dress herself from a young age.
So, before each video shoot, Nadine beca the girls' "makeup artist." Although this skill didn't save her from being abused as well, at least the perpetrators were willing to use protection when they abused her, unlike the other girls.
Jack, anwhile, was busy seeking help. After getting internet access, Captain Torrance contacted the airline, but as he had predicted, the Philippine governnt directly rejected the airline's request, insisting that their soldiers wouldn't go to the island to their deaths unless the US governnt sent troops to help them eliminate the illegal ard groups.
Jack had previously contacted the BAU team, who already knew about the plane crash and were overjoyed to hear that he and JJ were safe.
Rossi, was now contacting various parties to rescue his two agents as quickly as possible.
Hannah had gone mad from not hearing from him; Jack finally managed to calm her down, dissuading her from imdiately flying to Manila and instead asking her to seek help from Tyler Kelly.
Using public opinion to exert pressure was the best thod they could think of, and to so extent, it was a win-win situation; the dia wouldn't let go of such a sensational story that could grab attention.
While Hannah contacted Tyler Kelly, Jack continued making arrangents. The pretty blonde of the two female college students was nad Brie Terry; she was a minor internet celebrity.
A pitifully pretty girl combined with the heroic captain who saved everyone — all the elents needed for a sensational story were there.
Soon, the plane crash survivors and the Los Angeles Channel 8 news channel's live online broadcast were launched.
The world saw a beautiful young woman, her face streaked with tears, recounting online how she and her passengers had survived a near-death experience, and how the plane had successfully made an ergency landing thanks to the calm and collected pilots. She described the brutality of the local militants and the perilous situation they faced.
Before nightfall, news of the plane crash snowballed, dominating headlines on social dia and in the news dia.
Shortly before darkness, the airline sent a ssage that a five-person private military contractor team would parachute onto the island the following morning, bringing communication equipnt and supplies.
Although a single PMC team was insufficient to rescue so many people, follow-up support was being arranged, reportedly to be handled directly by the military.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Although the airline executive in the video looked ashen-faced, no one cared; their objective had been achieved.
Just as the darkness before dawn is the darkest hour of the day, the night before rescue arrived would also be the most dangerous.
Although so concealnt was done, preventing outsiders from analyzing their location from the video, and even the IP address was disguised by Garcia, no one knew if any locals familiar with the island would guess they were hiding in this abandoned mine.
After dark, the group quickly ate sothing and turned off the roaring generator. Everyone's phones were fully charged, but except for a few rooms with completely blocked windows, all lights were shut off.
The won all gathered on the fourth floor, the relatively safest place, where there were mosquito nets for a more comfortable sleep. The n took turns keeping watch in pairs. Jack managed to sleep for a while but couldn't stand the mosquito bites and went to the roof to relieve Gaspare.
The rainforest at night seed eerie and terrifying, with strange cries occasionally echoing in the distance, the source of which was unknown.
The night sky was beautiful, though lacking a full moon, the twinkling stars were the kind of light-pollution-free night sky.
Jack, bored, leaned against the water tower on the roof, using his keen hearing to swat away the mosquitoes trying to feast on him. Soon, countless unidentified insect corpses lay at his feet.
Suddenly noticing a strange noise, he turned around and saw JJ climbing the ladder onto the roof.
"Why are you up so early? There are still several hours until dawn."
"Everyone's exhausted. They all fall asleep as soon as it gets dark. I don't usually sleep much, so I woke up early."
JJ fumbled in her pocket and took out a small bottle of repellent, handing it to Jack before sitting down beside him.
Seemingly uncomfortable, she adjusted her position for a while before finally settling into his lap, leaning her head on his shoulder.
He slowly applied the repellent to himself and her as they sat quietly.
