"Can you tell Hannah?"
JJ's first words sent chills down his spine, while his previously erect muscles went limp.
"Huh?"
"Don't be nervous, I just want to know about my opponent."
JJ stuck out her tongue and lightly licked his neck, then spat repeatedly, making Jack laugh until he nearly died. The sll of sweat mixed with repellent was salty and unpleasant.
'You reap what you sow.'
Jack understood what she was asking, but holding one girl while telling her another girl's story usually didn't end well.
They were currently on an island. Although they didn't have a machete, sugarcane knives were everywhere.
"The story begins a few years ago."
As the saying goes, sincerity is the most invincible tactic in relationships. Jack recounted his experiences in this life, from the unexpected death of his parents to how he worked his way into the LAPD.
From his initial interactions with Hannah, to their gradual falling in love, to helping Hannah avenge herself in Margrave, he even didn't hide Zoe and Maureen's affairs from JJ, telling her everything.
Unexpectedly, what JJ was most concerned about wasn't his romantic escapades, but his condition.
"Since you said that you always lose control after extre tension, why haven't you been fine since yesterday?"
JJ looked suspicious, as if carefully recalling whether this guy had secretly spent ti alone with other won after the two battles yesterday, especially that young and pretty internet celebrity.
Jack chuckled, sowhat exasperated. "Of course, it's because we weren't tense enough before. I an, I beca sowhat used to this level of tension."
Yesterday's minor incident hardly warranted an adrenaline rush. For soone with his skills, dealing with unard villagers was a piece of cake.
Even his last famous battle hadn't affected him much. Hannah had helped him out afterwards, unlocking a new location achievent for them: the FBI building's underground parking lot.
The Firebird's modifications were definitely worth it; the shock absorption was exceptionally good.
That night, his girls complained that Jack wasn't passionate enough; they'd been waiting for his berserk state for a long ti.
After hearing Jack's story of battling the n in New xico, JJ finally believed he wouldn't easily enter that out-of-control state anymore, but that didn't an she completely trusted him.
"You must still have a secret." JJ said.
'I must keep him away from that girl.'
...
As dawn broke, everyone got up and started working.
The n took turns using machetes and sugarcane knives to clear the tropical vegetation near the small building. It was hard work, but absolutely necessary to clear the field of fire.
The PMC team, airdropped in, brought both military and material support, but also attracted dangerous attention. Given the island's pervasive hostility, the mont the parachutes landed, it ant the complete exposure of the abandoned mine.
But they had to gamble, because their diesel fuel reserves for the generator were dwindling, and once it was gone, they would no longer be able to obtain clean groundwater from the deep well.
Furthermore, they didn't have many containers to store water, and even relatively clean freshwater wouldn't last more than a few days in this hot and humid environnt.
The food they brought from the plane was also running low; most airplane als were semi-finished products, few in number, and without refrigeration, they would have to be eaten by tonight at the latest.
What remained were so snacks brought by the passengers and a small amount of packaged bread, not even enough to last until the third day.
Therefore, this sturdy concrete building beca their only stronghold. If it weren't for the difficulty of igniting fires in the tropical rainforest, Jack even considered starting a forest fire after clearing a firebreak.
Unfortunately, this wasn't a large forest that could burn for a year; in this rainy tropical rainforest, his idea beca impossible to implent.
But Jack persisted, mobilizing everyone to clear as much shrub and tall grass as possible around the building.
Therefore, he and Gaspare specifically went back to the place where they had hidden the two pickup trucks the day before, pooled the gasoline from both trucks into one, and then drove back.
Using the pickup truck as a tractor and a rake left over from the mine, they painstakingly carved out a large clearing in the bushes south of the building.
Including the existing barbed wire fence, the area south of the building, right next to the jungle, suddenly had nearly seventy or eighty ters of open space, greatly reducing the defensive pressure.
Otherwise, even with the PMC's help, they wouldn't have been confident in relying on this building to withstand an attack by dozens of people.
It's important to know that, according to the intelligence obtained from previous interrogations, the guerrilla group belonging to the "Abu Sayyaf" organization included more than ten veterans who had experienced the Marawi conflict.
Not to ntion the thousands of ard militants entrenched on the island who were eyeing these foreign hostages, especially now that the news had spread; who knows how many more would be attracted?
Seeing that the ti was almost up, Jack poured gasoline and set the clustered plants ablaze. A plu of black smoke shot into the sky, becoming the perfect beacon.
An unmarked C-130 transport plane swept over the abandoned mine, dropping five PMCs and two large red and blue drop boxes. Fortunately, the open area on the northern side of the mine, near the mountain, was large enough for everyone to land safely.
"Hello, Captain Torrance, we are the advance team from Pioneer Airlines. I'm Shebeck, and these are Isaac, Mo, Wells, and Lake."
The PMC team leader was a bald, muscular black man who looked only half a size smaller than Gaspare. After greeting the crew and passengers who gathered around, he gave Jack a wink, leaving him completely bewildered.
"Agent Jack Tavelor? I've heard so much about you." PMC team leader Shebeck extended his hand to Jack.
"Jason and Sonny are on their way. They will be our backup and guide the retreat."
