Jack held up one finger and waved it from side to side: "No, no, no, don't ask for advice on that. I'm the demon, I only know how to bewitch people. You'd better stay away from ."
"Besides, while we were treating the wounded, there was a guy hiding behind that big tree behind us. Although he hid himself very well, the sound of handcuffs and shackles didn't escape my notice. Don't you want to earn so credit and end your rookie period sooner?"
At this mont, Hannah and Angela erged from the bushes, with a burly black man sandwiched between them. The latter had been sprayed with pepper spray and was groaning in pain.
"Hey, boys, you should hurry up. The credit is ours."
Nolan shrugged and raised his hand to indicate that ladies should go first.
The ambulances that had been called had arrived one after another, and the injured county sheriffs and prisoners had been taken to the hospital one after another. The prisoners who were lucky enough to be uninjured and had not tried to escape were being taken back to the prison.
Commander Gray was in front of the police car, assigning search tasks to the patrol officers from various districts who had co to provide reinforcents.
"As far as we know, we still have 7 prisoners at large."
"6." Tim and Lucy appeared out of nowhere, escorting a bald white man.
Commander Gray's previously gloomy, dark face softened slightly, and he nodded to the two.
"Good job. Then, to correct you, there are now 6 prisoners at large."
"5."
Hannah and Angela laboriously pulled the burly black man up the steep slope, bringing him before everyone.
Commander Gray grinned, revealing his perfectly white teeth.
"Great, at this rate, we can get ho for dinner on ti tonight. But, without traffic, fugitives can travel at 4 miles per hour, and they started their escape 20 minutes ago."
"So we've set up a cordon a mile away, and we have helicopters patrolling continuously. If nothing unexpected happens, all that's left is to search house to house and find these guys one by one."
"But," Zoe stepped forward and continued, "if the prisoners escape the cordon, the search within the area will turn into a city-wide manhunt, which will cause a lot of trouble for the entire city's security. So, let's assign tasks."
Tim, Lucy, Angela, and several other teams, along with K9 units, went to search house to house. New female officer Nyla Harper and Nolan, along with reinforcents from other precincts, were responsible for checking vehicles passing through the cordon. Hannah, Jack, and three other teams patrolled the roads in police cars, ready to provide backup.
Soon, good news arrived: Tim and Lucy caught a prisoner on a neighborhood street, and Angela and another officer caught one in a parking lot.
This idiot tried to steal a car from the parking lot to escape, and he chose a high-end rcedes with keyless start.
Then Jack and Hannah received a call for help from Nolan.
While checking the vehicle, he and Nyla Harper noticed a white driver who seed overly nervous. He replied that he had just returned from preschool, but although there was a child safety seat in the back seat and half-eaten snacks nearby, no child was visible.
John stopped Officer Harper from opening the trunk and let the car go, suspecting a prisoner had kidnapped a child and was hiding inside.
"So what are you going to do now?" Hannah asked him over the car radio.
Nolan sounded anxious: "I just tossed the phone to the driver, and it's confird that soone has kidnapped his 5-year-old daughter and is hiding her in the trunk."
"But the driver is afraid to stop. The escaped prisoner has a gun and demands to be taken to a safe place before releasing his daughter. We haven't thought of a good solution yet."
Jack chuckled mischievously, interjecting, "A safe place? Is there anything safer than the Wilshire Police Departnt garage?"
As they spoke, Jack spotted Nolan's police car ahead, following a red Camry.
"Nolan, I see you. Let's speed up and get ahead; it's too easy to be spotted from behind. Contact the owner and have him follow. I'll notify the station to be prepared."
Fifteen minutes later, the red Camry slowly pulled into the garage, the garage door lowered, and the lights were off, creating a dim environnt. The driver got out, nervously walked to the back of the car, and gently patted the trunk, his voice trembling.
"We're safe."
He then opened the trunk, revealing a thin Latino man huddled at the back, holding a handgun pointed at a five- or six-year-old girl. The prisoner glared at him nacingly.
"There's no one around. I did everything you said. Now give back my daughter, and you can drive my car," the driver said, handing over the keys. The thin man brandished the gun, gesturing for him to take the little girl.
The driver quickly picked up the girl and hid to the side.
Suddenly, the garage lights ca on, and a loud shout rang out: "Put down your gun!"
Officer Nyla Harper, with her camouflage, and another African Arican officer appeared from the left and right corners, pointing their guns at the thin man. Four or five more officers surrounded the hood of the car.
The thin man, still wearing his orange prison uniform, had no choice but to obediently lower his gun and be handcuffed.
Seeing the driver, who had been highly tense, clutching his daughter tightly, almost collapsing, Nolan quickly went to support him, while Jack took the little girl from him.
The little girl was adorable and showed no fear. Seeing a handso brother holding her, she smiled sweetly, revealing two dimples, and reached out her little arms to hug Jack's neck.
Jack instinctively wanted to kiss that chubby little face, but then rembered they were in Arica and forcibly restrained himself.
"Wow, what a cute little sweetheart, let kiss her!"
Hannah, standing nearby, didn't have so many reservations. Rarely seeing such a cute little girl, she leaned in and gave her a quick kiss.
The little girl shyly shrank back, glanced at Jack, hesitated for a mont, then, imitating Hannah, gave Jack a big kiss on the cheek.
Seeing that the father had recovered, Jack smiled and returned the adorable little sweetheart to him.
"You're a very brave father, and your daughter is very cute."
"Thank you, thank you so much," the father sincerely thanked everyone present.
Officer Nyla Harper, who had just escorted the prisoners away, rushed back, loudly calling out to everyone, "Captain Anderson and Commander Gray are gathering everyone; we need to go back imdiately."
The group drove back to the accident scene. The paradics had already left; only firefighters and so workers were still busy around the overturned prison van on the hillside.
A police command vehicle, converted from a bus, was parked by the roadside, and everyone boarded.
Commander Gray, seeing that almost everyone had arrived, said, "Three more escapees have been arrested."
"Now there are two left. Six hours have passed; we need to assu these two prisoners have escaped the cordon."
