Jack is currently most confident in his combination of Proficient Psychology and Master-level Healing Skills. This requires at least 5 more system coins. His only real source of experience points is the two internal LAPD dals, so three months is a good amount of ti. Even without any major cases, he's confident he can still earn another 5 system coins.
Jack picked up a set of basic hand tools and screws in Little Tokyo, then went to a traditional Japanese hardware store, pretending to be a foreigner interested in Japanese ho renovation techniques. He inquired about the best types of wood sealant and wall paint for an older house and then drove to Zoe's house.
This ti, he didn't stay long, as so things were inconvenient to discuss over the phone and required a face-to-face eting.
He shared the information he obtained from the accountant with his own speculation, telling Zoe that the mastermind behind the plot to use Zoe and Hannah was undoubtedly connected to the Kleiner Group.
Zoe agreed with Jack's assessnt, believing that her private investigations in recent years had alerted the group. She spoke with her grandfather, Old Anderson, in front of Jack, sharing her suspicions.
Old Anderson, a politician, had an extrely short temper. He launched into a tirade on the phone and imdiately declared he would handle the matter personally.
After leaving Zoe's house, Jack replayed the plot of *Reacher* in his mind. The show's plot was unremarkable, following the old-fashioned detective drama formula. What had initially attracted him were the visceral action scenes and the female lead's figure — a rare bright spot among the Arican dramas of his past life.
Now, thinking back, the Kleiner Corporation seed easy to deal with; the three main characters could wipe them out. But the thought of Jack Reacher's brother dying at their hands at the very beginning of the story gave Jack a headache.
What kind of criminal organization would dare to directly target USSS agents investigating the DHS? The USSS typically only had two jobs: combating counterfeiting and protecting the president.
Before the USSS was incorporated into the Departnt of Holand Security, it belonged to the Treasury Departnt. As everyone knows, the IRS, often portrayed as having more power than the CIA and FBI, is essentially the Treasury Departnt's favored son.
This is why Jack hadn't dared let Abby investigate the group through hacking. Who knows who was behind the Kleiner Group? But now he felt a little more at ease.
Since the other side only dared to instigate reckless gangsters like the Southern Front to target Zoe and Hannah, and even that failed, it ant their backing hadn't yet infiltrated California and they didn't dare to confront a local power like the Anderson family head-on.
In the following days, besides his daily training and studies, Jack, while busy renovating his house, kept thinking about the Kleiner Group.
Who knows when the plot of *Reacher* will begin? Once Hannah completes her FBI training in Quantico, she'll almost certainly continue her private investigation. Rather than inviting retaliation later, it's better to act sooner rather than later.
If he couldn't rely on the protagonist's aura from the original cast, Jack figured he might as well bring in the accountant to help. With a ranged DPS and himself as a lee healer, even without a tank like Jack Reacher to draw aggro, this mission wasn't impossible to try.
He also wanted to improve his rifle shooting skills and get closer to the accountant; maybe he could get so guidance. After all, every soldier has a longing to be a ranged attacker. If they could snipe from a distance, who would want to fight to the death in close combat?
Holidays were never enough. Jack's kitchen renovation was barely halfway done when it was ti to clock in at the police station again.
Sothing was off today. As soon as he entered the station, everyone looked at him strangely. Several pretty female officers in administrative positions covered their mouths and smirked as they walked past him.
Feeling confused, Jack went into the locker room to change into his uniform and ran into Lucy when he ca out.
Lucy's smile was particularly radiant today. She stood in front of Jack and started unbuttoning her police uniform, startling him so much he quickly covered his eyes with his fingers.
Through his fingers, Jack glimpsed a T-shirt underneath, then lowered his hand, only to discover the photo printed on it was of himself dressed as Ginny.
"Was it Angela or Tim who did this?" Jack felt a surge of anger.
"We chipped in together. Angela found a custom shop. This one's a gift," Tim said, his wrinkled face crinkling with a smile as he walked past them, tossing a T-shirt over.
"Every officer on the day shift got one, even Commander Gray."
"Damn it!" He was furious, but there was nothing he could do about these guys.
The patrol officers' days were uneventful, but incredibly busy. As Christmas drew near, all sorts of troubles began to occur on the streets, keeping everyone on their toes.
Zoe submitted her resignation to the Chief of Police ahead of schedule and proposed that Gray take over. Rumors circulated that his rank was being considered for a promotion to match his upcoming position. This ended th commander's mid-life crisis, freeing him from the dilemma of retirent.
The handover process would last four months, until March of next year, after which Zoe would officially enter politics and run for Los Angeles City Council.
At the sa ti, Zoe officially ca out and announced her engagent to Maureen after Christmas. Seeing the couple going all out, Jack's feelings were inexplicably complex.
Angela beca a probationary detective, and Commander Gray still assigned Jack to her as his assistant, giving Jack the opportunity to participate in so real cri investigations.
This was probably the benefit of having connections; everyone knew what such an arrangent ant for a rookie officer.
However, while Angela sat in the office receiving guidance from veteran detectives, Jack still had to patrol the streets. His partner would then be more random, sotis even the restless Commander Gray.
Everyone was excited about the personnel changes and the upcoming collective comndation, including rookies Nolan and Lucy. They might take the exams early, following Jack, and finish their internships six months ahead of schedule.
Jack wasn't surprised at all. In the original series, the three rookies went through so many gunfights and big scenes, yet still served a full year before being promoted — that was truly bizarre. People not on the front lines never know how short-staffed the LAPD is; soon, new rookie officers would be joining the precinct.
Christmas was less than a week away, and Tim and Nolan, both single, dragged Jack into spending the holiday together. Jack readily agreed with a grin, secretly plotting how to get revenge on his friends, especially Tim.
