Now reading: Chapter 97 97: 97-What? from Reborn: The Rookie Detective, a Action novel by jackrose.

At the sa ti, Jack was also reflecting on his own actions. The skills and attributes provided by the system had indeed gradually allowed him to surpass ordinary people. Whether it was the favor shown to him by the won around him, the praise from his colleagues at the police station, or even the willingness of the IRS and the FBI to actively recruit him, all of these were affirmations of his enhanced strength.

So, he didn't know when it started, but the low-key, cautious self who was full of awe for this world began to get a little arrogant. If being deceived by the nurse in the IRS case, almost causing the death of the IRS undercover agent, was due to the nurse's superb acting skills, then actively provoking Rosalind and presumptuously believing that he was not afraid of her retaliation seed a bit too arrogant and foolish.

This was not an RPG-like ga world, and he had not fully mastered any walkthrough. His friends and the criminals he encountered were all living, breathing people with their own thoughts and souls, not operating according to a pre-programd program.

Even if he wasn't afraid of retaliation, he should still consider his friends. Although Tyler wasn't close to him, if she really died at the hands of Rosalind's admirers, Jack would find it hard to convince himself that this tragedy had nothing to do with him.

Fortunately, luck was on his side this ti; the only missing tracker was on Tyler. If, like in the original story, Lucy was kidnapped again, Jack couldn't imagine the consequences.

At that mont, David Rossi's voice ca through the walkie-talkie.

"Jack, I just confird that the farm you went to belongs to a trust fund under Rosalind's na. Caleb White referred to it as a sacred place in his diary — the place where Rosalind murdered her first victim."

"The kidnapper's identity has also been found: Beth Weston, Rosalind's defense attorney."

"According to the TV station staff, Beth Weston contacted Tyler last night and picked her up after work."

"The sa upright lawyer Delmont ntioned?" Angela's tone was full of sarcasm.

"Rosalind is like a plague, infecting everyone she cos into contact with with her twisted ideas."

"Uh…" Rossi choked for a mont, but still corrected her. "I prefer to call it a kind of mutual attraction between psychopaths. Delmont just admitted that Beth Weston strongly requested to be Rosalind's defense attorney. Like Caleb White, she was actively trying to get close to her idol."

"Anyway, hopefully Delmont is prepared to face the wrath of Tyler's father — Judge Kelly."

Jack swerved the steering wheel, and the police car drifted into a side road with a screeching sound of tires.

"We'll be there in 3 minutes. How long will it take for backup? The GPS signal has been gone for over 40 minutes. We need as many people as possible to search."

At this mont, the voice on the radio changed to Commander Grey.

"Nolan and his team are not far behind you. More support will arrive within 10 minutes. I've also called two helicopters, expected to be overhead in 5 minutes to assist with the search."

With a long screeching of brakes, Jack brought the police car to a stop and jumped out impatiently. The farm was small, with only one single-story building, the place where the tracking signal on Tyler had last disappeared.

"Jack," Rossi called again.

"The low-frequency signal from the tracker should still be detectable, but the range might be very small."

"Understood."

Jack turned to Angela: "I'll go through the front door, you flank from the back. Be careful not to accidentally hurt anyone."

Angela nodded, gun in hand, and jogged around to the back of the single-story building.

Ti was of the essence. Jack didn't care about the risk of more of Rosalind's accomplices. He grabbed a tablet in his left hand and a gun in his right, and charged forward, kicking down any door he saw, relying entirely on his senses to detect movent in each room. However, when he and Angela t in the innermost storage room, they found no one.

The storage room contained only three empty oil drums, and Tyler's Louis Vuitton bag lay on the floor.

The two exchanged bewildered glances. Jack looked again at his tablet; there was no signal.

Just then, Nolan arrived with a group of officers, surrounding the bungalow.

"Is there any possibility of a basent or cellar?" Angela asked.

Nolan shook his head. "I checked from the outside. There are no ventilation openings, it doesn't look like a basent, and there's no cellar entrance nearby."

Jack stood at the doorway, gazing thoughtfully at a tire track leading to the distant farm.

The walkie-talkie crackled to life again; this ti it was Tim.

"Beth Weston resisted arrest and was shot dead. I found a video on her phone, probably ant for you. Sending it now."

Jack pulled out his phone and received the video Tim had forwarded. It showed Tyler being forced at gunpoint into a buried oil drum, which was then covered with a lid, shovelfuls of dirt being poured over it.

"She's buried underground. Get in the car and follow the tire tracks."

Jack waved to the crowd to follow him, started the police car again, and tracked the tire tracks. A few minutes later, Angela, holding a tablet in the passenger seat, exclaid, "We have a signal! It's at 3 o'clock!"

It was a small hill. Jack jumped out of the car; his superhuman senses allowed him to spot a patch of soil nearby that had been recently disturbed.

"There it is!"

The crowd rushed over, so using shovels, others digging with their hands. Soon, a round tal lid was revealed.

Jack snatched the folding shovel from Nolan, pried open the lid, and pulled out the unconscious Tyler.

....

"That was my first kiss." Tyler, lying on the hospital bed, showed no signs of shock or relief, but instead displayed a blackmailing expression.

"That's called artificial respiration. If I hadn't done that, you'd be dead!"

Jack rubbed his temples, his head aching. He'd cast a healing spell after rescuing Tyler, but just to make it look like he'd done a couple of CPRs. He hadn't expected this woman to say sothing like that.

This was ridiculous; a nearly 30-year-old Western woman doing this was just too bizarre.

"My family are devout followers. My father would kill if he found out," Tyler said, looking like she was about to cry.

"Your first kiss was stolen by Hannah at your high school prom because you cheated and took her crown," Jack bluntly exposed. Hannah had already used that little story between the two girls as gossip during their daily calls.

[A/n: Any Yuri shit you would pull be removed. I understand that this scene is to make everyone understand why Tyler is obsessed with getting back on Hannah, so kept it, but no other shit is allowed.]

"Okay, I'm not kidding anymore, but I want to thank you again. Although I was terrified, I knew you would co to save ."

Tyler pulled out the small black disc. "Can I keep this as a souvenir?"
