"Uh, probably not. This is FBI property. I have no authority over it. Please give it back to ."
Jack looked heartless. His three won at ho were enough of a headache. Although Tyler was decent-looking and had a good personality, this wasn't a fantasy novel where the protagonist slept with every woman he saw.
His healing skills were for serious matters. Even if he used them secretly occasionally, it was for fun. Improving his physique points was the right path.
"Then co and get it yourself." Tyler angrily tried to shove the small disc back into her top.
Jack was quick, snatching it away before the tracker could fall.
"Get so rest. I should go back to the police station."
Although the lawyer had given Tyler a large dose of sedatives after kidnapping her, which ironically ant she was in a daze and not too frightened, as a victim of being buried alive, this girl was definitely remarkably carefree.
Outside the ward, Judge Kelly was still berating District Attorney Delmont. Even though he was credited with saving a life, being alone in a hospital room with soone's daughter at a ti like this still made him uneasy. Jack left the ward, greeted Carrie who had co to visit, and rushed back to the police station.
Just as he arrived, he encountered David Rossi leaving. Jack offered to take him to the airport.
"Is there so urgent business requiring you to return to Quantico?"
"You didn't know?" Rossi asked, sowhat surprised.
"Huh? I just got back from the hospital. What happened?" Jack asked, puzzled.
"Rosalind died in prison. It's all over." Rossi shrugged, as if he'd seen it all before.
"Uh…" Jack didn't know what to say. Daring to offend soone in the judicial system, and being a prisoner himself, this outco seed unsurprising.
'That was too fast.' That was his only thought.
"According to Commander Conandes of the California Won's Prison, a fight broke out during exercise ti, and Rosalind was accidentally injured and died from massive bleeding caused by a ruptured spleen."
"Dr. Brennan and her team will return to DC imdiately after completing their work. The identification of the remains still being excavated will be handed over to the LAPD. Agent Seeley Booth from the Major Cris Unit is very unhappy that I took his forensic team."
Jack felt a little regretful. He had originally wanted to get closer to the forensic team to see if he could improve his skills, but now it seed hopeless. Who knew when he would run into those guys again.
Rossi awkwardly adjusted his posture: "Didn't the IRS give you a bonus? Aren't you planning to buy a new car?"
Jack counted the days on his fingers. "The money should take a few more days to arrive. Nolan found a 1982 Pontiac Firebird, which I really like. I plan to tow it back and modify it."
Rossi clearly didn't like North Arican muscle cars and muttered under his breath, "I still prefer European sedans."
Jack silently grumbled to himself, *Wow, writing books really is lucrative.*
....
"You only spent $4,500 on this piece of junk and you're planning to put a 5.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine in it?"
"Do you know how much that engine costs? $60,000! That's enough to buy more than ten of these old cars. Are you crazy?"
Nolan looked at the modification list in front of him and felt terrible. He was one of the very few people who knew that Jack had received a windfall, but seeing him spend it like this, he couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
After the IRS bonus arrived, Jack beca spendthrift. He was no longer satisfied with simply restoring the Firebird; he planned to spend at least $100,000 to completely replace the core of his childhood dream car.
Therefore, he abandoned the modification shop Nolan recomnded and instead went to a small workshop run by a few engineers from Shelby, Ford's official modification shop.
This workshop, located not far from the LA Air Force base, is comprised of several retired engineers in their fifties and sixties, primarily from Shelby Tuning. They are not only skilled at modifying Ford Mustangs but also have extensive experience with Chevrolet vehicles.
Since the Pontiac Firebird shares its chassis with the Chevrolet Camaro, these retired n readily agreed to Jack's outrageous ideas, stating that as long as the money was right, nothing was a problem.
Aside from adding a red running light strip to the front, Jack insisted on keeping the overall appearance unchanged, including the iconic pop-up headlights and triangular rearview mirrors.
Therefore, the retired engineers commissioned four 20-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels, replicating the original Firebird's "hot wheel" design, and replaced the headlights with LED pop-up lights. They then replaced all other parts with Ford Mustang components, including the Eibach adjustable suspension, new leather sports seats, electrical system, center console, steering wheel, and the entire interior, essentially adopting Shelby Tuning's "Red Code" kit for the Ford Mustang GT500.
As for the V8 engine Nolan ntioned, it can reach a maximum horsepower of 1000 hp and a peak torque of 1058 N·m when using regular high-octane gasoline. With dedicated ethanol fuel, the maximum horsepower can even exceed 1300 hp.
While it may not compare to those high-end sports cars costing millions or even tens of millions, for the Pontiac Firebird's forr mid-range sports car positioning, it's a complete transformation.
The final calculation shows the entire modification will cost around $150,000, with delivery in three months. Nolan, watching from the sidelines, was completely stunned; his top-of-the-line Toyota Tundra only cost a little over $60,000, barely enough for Jack's new engine.
After tinkering with his beloved car, Jack officially returned to his daily work. The remaining bonuses will be invested in the trading company Chris set up for him, using various thods to legally avoid taxes; otherwise, he'll face serious consequences next tax season.
The treatnt for Justine was very effective. Within a week, she was able to begin stamring daily conversations with Chris. Although she was still a little nervous when Jack was around, she would occasionally express her gratitude to Jack through smiles and other ans.
Then ca the most dangerous day of the year for the patrol officers, and also the most dangerous day for Jack himself: February 14th, the day of the plot twist.
As Commander Grey said at today's briefing: "Lovers breaking up, heartbreak, jealousy, revenge, being head over heels in love, all of this creates the perfect opportunity for the storm to break."
