"So, excluding Black Friday and Christmas, Valentine's Day is actually the day with the highest cri rate of the year — it's truly unbelievable."
Angela was working as an assistant in the detective team today, Nolan beca Jack's patrol partner for the first ti, and Lucy was unfortunately assigned to the front desk shift.
"Uh, how about… we have a party tonight?"
Jack was really having a headache, not knowing how to get through the night. It would be easy to deal with Hannah not being around — a sweet video call would do. But Maureen and Zoe had both given him hints that they wanted to spend Valentine's Day alone.
'You're both engaged, okay? You act like you're inseparable in front of others every day. How can you spend it alone? Isn't this making things difficult for ?' Besides, Chris and Justine were still living in his house. Even if he could win both girls over, whose house to go to tonight was another problem.
He might as well just get everyone involved for a Valentine's Day party and then see what happens.
"Okay, let's go to my place. It's going to be demolished and renovated soon anyway. It's okay if we bring a lot of people and make a ss."
Nolan said, pulling out his phone to contact Carrie.
Jack, anwhile, was counting heads as he drove. Angela and Wesley were a couple, Nolan and Carrie were a couple, Lucy and Tim could barely be considered a couple, Commander Grey was definitely with his wife, and Zoe and Maureen were definitely considered a couple by outsiders. So, he was the only one left? Oh, and there was Nyla.
"I heard Nyla might get back together with her ex-husband!" Nolan's words shattered Jack's hopes.
"I hate Valentine's Day!"
"Patrol car 7-A-26, single-vehicle accident, Crescent Heights 1530, injuries unknown." The command center's call ca through.
The two in the car stopped joking. Jack seriously picked up the walkie-talkie and replied, "7-A-26, en route to the scene."
The accident site wasn't far from where they were patrolling; usually, the command center would dispatch the nearest available police car.
"There!" Nolan pointed to a purple BMW near the intersection. The front of the car was almost completely wrecked, and it had crashed into a wooden utility pole.
Jack slamd on the brakes, stopping the police car in the middle of the intersection. The flashing lights of the police car would warn passing vehicles to drive cautiously past the accident scene.
"Command center, please indicate that the vehicle is ready for foot patrol."
Nolan continued to report to the command center through the shoulder microphone: "Location: Crescent Heights 1530. Power line damaged. Ergency notification to the power company."
Jack grabbed Nolan, who was about to step forward, and pointed to the power lines that had fallen from the utility pole onto the roof of the car.
"Wait, the car is completely electrified now. If you touch it, I'll have to call two ambulances."
Although the broken power lines wouldn't be like those snakes in movies, spitting sparks and swinging around, the voltage is not safe for direct contact.
Fortunately, the power lines were only touching the car, and as long as the people inside didn't get out, they would be safe for the ti being.
At this mont, the seemingly still attractive blonde woman inside the car is gradually regaining consciousness and is trying to open the door.
Nolan can only shout, "Ma'am, please stay inside the car! It's very dangerous outside!"
"She seems disoriented and can't hear what you're saying. Prepare to rescue her. I'll handle the wires."
Jack pulls out his ASP baton, thinks for a mont, and, sowhat uneasy about the thin rubber handle, pulled off his uniform and wraped it around it.
anwhile, the blonde woman inside the car seems disoriented from the impact of the accident and completely oblivious to Nolan's shouts. She has already opened the car door, and the mont one foot touches the ground, she is electrocuted and convulses.
"Jack, we have to do sothing!" Nolan is extrely anxious.
Jack quickly stepped forward, picked up the power line, and gestured for him to drag the woman away.
"Command center, please send an ambulance to my location. Adult woman, 30s, unconscious, not breathing, electrocuted."
While Jack was calling command center, Nolan had already laid the blonde woman flat on the ground and started CPR.
Considering Tyler's experience, Jack didn't take over after Nolan perford two cycles, but instead secretly touched the blonde woman's arm.
"Keep going, you can do it." With Nolan's efforts, the blonde woman regained spontaneous breathing, though her consciousness was still sowhat hazy.
"Hey, welco back, you're alright." Nolan looked overjoyed.
"What happened?"
"It's best not to move. You were in a car accident, and then unfortunately electrocuted. The ambulance is on its way." Nolan comforted her softly.
"Did you save ? Thank you!" The blonde woman hugged Nolan tightly, almost giving him a kiss.
"Uh… yes, it's my pleasure," Nolan said awkwardly, not wanting to forcefully pull away.
If it weren't for the potentially inappropriate image, Jack, who had been watching the commotion, would have almost walked away whistling. It seed he wasn't the only one facing a Valentine's Day ordeal.
After getting the still-attractive blonde woman into the ambulance and dealing with the scene, the two continued on their way.
"A box of Cuban Partagas, and I promise to keep quiet about what happened. Carrie will never find out," Jack said, switching into blackmail mode.
"Don't even think about it. I only have one box left. I might give you one tonight if you want," Nolan said, a pained expression on his face. He nervously fiddled with two grotesquely large-headed dolls on the center console, vaguely recognizable as Hannah and Jack's likenesses.
These were gifts made by Kara, who had escaped from the ho of a serial kidnapper and murderer, before Christmas, and given to the two of them.
"What a coincidence! Look who's over there?" Jack pointed across the street as he drove slowly.
On the roadside, little Kara, a beautiful girl, was leading several Girl Scouts around ten years old in a cookie sale for charity. They were all dressed in matching light pink uniforms and dark blue skirts, wearing matching light pink berets and red scarves — they were simply irresistibly cute.
"Oh, they're so adorable! I've always wanted a daughter like that," Nolan exclaid with an exaggerated smile, his face crinkling with wrinkles.
"You and Carrie still have a chance if you try. Why don't you go down and say hello and buy so cookies? That way you won't have to fight for lunch."
Jack pulled over, opened the car door, and waved to Kara. The little girl jumped for joy at the sight of him.
Just as the two were about to cross the street, a short, dreadlocked Black man suddenly rushed to the Girl Scouts' stall, grabbed several boxes of cookies, and tried to run away. Kara kicked his shin several tis, but he wouldn't let go.
"Police! Stop!"
Jack and Nolan gave chase. What kind of lunatic was this, daring to steal cookies from the Girl Scouts' charity sale right in front of the police?
