“I couldn’t fall asleep…” Irene lay on the bed, muttering to herself. Her small face looked a little pale, her expression drained. Faint dark circles rimd her eyes, and the red veins within them stood out clearly. It was obvious that she had not slept a wink all night.
“No matter how I think about it, I can’t co up with a perfect solution. My head hurts so badly!” Irene rolled back and forth on the bed, complaining irritably. She had never imagined that simply stepping outside for a mont would land her in such a huge ss.
If she had known that Passat and his group would co to the church and end up clashing with her, Irene would never have gone out, no matter what. After all, most of the ti she stayed inside the church, shut away in her room, appreciating her little lewd nove—no, those were great works of literature!
“Ahhh, this is so annoying. At least let read a novel to calm my nerves!” As long as she imrsed herself in the world of fiction, she could forget all the troubles of reality. Unfortunately, all of Irene’s treasured books were with Yae-hi. If the other party did not co over, she would not get to read a single page.
“You bad girl, you bad girl! Why aren’t you here yet!”
“Who are you calling a bad girl?”
Suddenly, a second voice rang out in the room.
In the first second, Irene was so startled that her heart nearly stopped. At one and a half seconds, her mind latched onto a familiar voice. At the second second, her shock turned into joy. At two and a half seconds, her smile blood, delight flooding her face. By the third second, Irene sprang up and lunged toward the source of the sound.
“Bad girl, you’re finally here… wah!” At three and a half seconds, she crashed onto the floor. “Wuuuh, why did you dodge!”
“With my small fra, if you pounced on like that, I’d definitely end up breaking a few bones.” Yae-hi spoke from the side, a faint smile appearing on her face. “That aside, what kind of trouble did you run into? You didn’t even notice coming in.”
Hearing that, Irene imdiately hugged Yae-hi’s legs. “Princess, you have to help think of a solution!” As she spoke, her large eyes brimd with crystalline tears.
“Did sothing really happen?” Yae-hi asked, puzzled.
With Irene’s strength, while she could not exactly run rampant in Jade City, she was not soone who could be bullied so easily either.
“Yes, yes. I’m suffering so much!” Irene nodded vigorously.
“Get up first. Let’s talk properly.”
“Princess, this ti I really can only rely on you!” Irene quickly let go and stood up, the dejected look on her face instantly vanishing.
“Even though I don’t know what it is yet, I’ll do my best.” Yae-hi sat down on the bed and said calmly.
Anything that could give Irene this much of a headache was certainly not simple. Whether she could actually help was still uncertain, so naturally she did not make any promises.
Irene bounced over and plopped down beside Yae-hi, speaking excitedly. “It’s like this…” After fifteen full minutes, she finally explained the entire sequence of events from beginning to end.
“Kill him,” Yae-hi said expressionlessly.
“If I could, I’d kill him right now!” Irene snapped angrily, then imdiately wilted again. “Too bad I can’t…”
“The Southern Grand Church and the Golden Aslan family really are troubleso,” Yae-hi nodded.
“Princess, hurry up and think of a solution that satisfies everyone!” Irene grabbed Yae-hi’s hand, looking pitiful.
After pondering for a mont, the latter said, “Then don’t take the position of Saintess.”
“No! The Saintess identity is very important to !” Irene shook her head fiercely.
“I see. That makes it a bit troubleso.” For a mont, even Yae-hi could not think of a good solution.
“Princess, you have to help !” At that mont, panic surged in Irene’s heart. If even her bad girl had no way out, then what was she supposed to do?
“Give a few more days. I’ll see if I can conveniently get rid of him.” Yae-hi said it lightly, as if she were talking about sothing utterly trivial.
Hearing this, Irene blinked, then exclaid in shock, “Are you crazy?! Passat is a cleric of the Southern Grand Church, and he’s also from the Golden Aslan family. We can’t afford to provoke him! Even if we could, with your strength, you still wouldn’t be able to get rid of him!”
“In this world, there is no one I can’t afford to provoke.” Yae-hi looked at Irene calmly and spoke in an indifferent tone. At that mont, her figure seed to grow impossibly large in Irene’s eyes.
‘What’s going on… Her strength is clearly inferior to mine. So why does she give off such an overwhelming, unquestionable presence, as if no matter how great the difficulty, nothing could stop her?’ Irene stared straight at her, her heartbeat quickening.
“Relax. I’ll take care of this matter.” Yae-hi reached out and gently stroked her head. “No one can take away your position as Saintess.”
That gentle gesture and those reassuring words made Irene feel completely at ease. Without realizing it, she leaned against Yae-hi, her eyes slowly closing as she drifted into sleep.
Hearing the faint, steady rhythm of her breathing, Yae-hi’s expression changed for a brief mont before quickly returning to normal.
“You’ve really had it rough.” She said softly. Then, she carefully laid Irene down on the bed. “It looks like today won’t work.”
Plans never kept up with changes, and Yae-hi could only smile helplessly.
“Zzz… Zzz…” On the bed, Irene slept soundly, her slightly pale face wearing a faint, peaceful smile.
“Get so good rest. I’ll co see you tomorrow…” As Yae-hi said this and prepared to get up, a small hand suddenly grabbed her. She tried to pry those fingers open, only to find that she could not move them at all. It was as if they were clamped shut by a pair of iron pincers.
“…” Now, leaving was no longer an option. At this mont, two choices surfaced in Yae-hi’s mind. First, wake Irene up. Second, lie down and rest.
Looking at the peaceful expression on Irene’s face and the faint dark circles beneath her eyes, she imdiately crossed out the first option. However, if she did not wake Irene, she would have to stay in the church, stay in Jade City. At least until Irene woke up.
During that ti, the risks she faced would be far from trivial. Under normal circumstances, waking Irene and having her let her leave would undoubtedly be the safer choice. Yet, the mont she saw that adorable sleeping face, Yae-hi found herself unable to do it. How could she not tell that Irene had been awake all night?
“Forget it. Richard probably doesn’t have the ti to co looking for anyone right now anyway.” Yae-hi slowly lay down and murmured to herself.
From Irene’s account, combined with what she had seen while sneaking in herself, she reached a conclusion. Richard had sold out his country. To deal with Alicia, he intended to ally with the Holy Empire.
Such an alliance never ca without a price. As an empire ruled by imperial authority, the church within the Jade Empire had never held much power.
“If these clerics really ca to support Richard, then Richard would definitely have to funnel certain benefits to them.”
By allowing an external power to intervene in this affair, even if Alicia was ultimately dealt with, Richard would still have to pay a considerable price to the Holy Empire. This was outright treason.
“The bishop of the Southern Grand Church, Passat of the Holy Church, along with several hundred powerful clerics… Just thinking about it gives a headache.” Staring up at the sowhat aged ceiling, Yae-hi said with a slight frown.
